  • A few day ago he leaved this world. Good Bye champion

  • CW ANTLEY you had decades of talent but your time on earth was limited

  • Strike The Gold sired in Turkey and fathered many champions in Turkey. Turkish racehorse world was rocked with the demise of this extraordinary horse . RIP

  • RIP ;( :(

  • What a fabulous race back in 1991! So sorry to hear the news of his passing.

  • RIP champ :-(

  • Strike the Gold passed away earlier today at the age of 23. He was standing at stud in Turkey. He was the oldest living Derby winner. And down the stretch he comes!

  • @tucsonagent

So sorry to hear this! What a great race he ran to win the Derby in 1991!

  • Strike The Gold and Chris Antley are running their races in heaven now.

  • I never folled horseracing until this race!!!(well intil I followedd Seattle Slew & Affirmed as a kid) thank u strike the gold for a great run!!!

  • I can remember this race like it was yesterday! But that's what happens when you had the winner!!! Strike The Gold was nowhere to be found early then came roaring up on the far outside, I was flipping out!!! The Ant Man (RIP) did it! I may be wrong but I believe Strike The Gold is the oldest Kentucky Derby winner still living.

  • This was my first and only Derby I went and I bet on Strike the Gold as a winner. As you can see this horse ran last at the beginning but pull though to become a winner. It was really nice to see that I pick the right hose!

  • Wow. I have been to the Kentucky Derby. However, this is the one I WISHED I had been able to attend. Alydar is my all time favorite horse, and here was his son who broke his maiden on the same day his sire died winning the Roses.

  • Chris Antley, RIP

  • Huh....Barbaro's "uncle" was in that race---late closing Green Alligator.

Watched this just b/c I know I wrote a poem about it when I was in high school...all I could remember was the last couplet "And with one last move, a move so bold/the Derby winner was Strike the Gold". Couldn't remember WHY I thought it was a bold move.

  • I think it's so funny how there are hardly any comments on these races but yet the newer races with Z or RA etc have a bunch of idiots who think they know what they are talking about but yet can't even post their facts about these races with these horses on here.

  • he was way back there.. he caught up fast
