  • shedding all pretense and creating art purely from who you are and what you feel is greatness, not creating art out of hope of reward, out of hope of fame, out of anything besides pure necessity. an itch from hell that forces your hand to pick up the pen, the guitar. all art created otherwise is an affront to yourself, and a fake.

  • I have a question - how is the effect at the begging achieved? Is it some sort of special instrument?

  • @iNTERS22 Im pretty sure its just music played backwards. Brock does that alot

  • @Anticitizen37 Omg, really? That is so awesome! I wonder which song it is that is played backwards (this one?)

  • @M3iscool these are Isaac's lyrics. That story was made up by him to take attention away from himself because he doesn't like talking about himself.

  • the outro is unbelievably good

  • Holy Fuck this is just as good as modest mouse in every way.

  • @doomeddestiny It's because the only difference is the lyrics aren't Isaac's. The lead singer is the same, so is the band. This fan sent him all these lyrics, and begged him to make a CD. He thought the lyrics were so good, he did.

  • i hate it when people compare issac brock to god i mean his done some good work and seems like a good guy and all but his no issac brock

  • @denvarhawks Wow did you come up with that joke all by yourself??

Im pretty sure everybody has seen that comment at least 10 times by now...thanks for being redundant

  • @DuppyBruh haha yeah i only wrote it cause the comment below it is pretty old and over used but hopefully the people who dont spend there entire life on youtube will see it and chuckle

  • Handed to Isaac by god herself..

  • I never have and I never will get sick of this song. Every time I hear it, it just does something to me. No matter what mood I'm in. Incredible.

  • Man I'm so glad aidanwritesandstuff sent me here

  • What a great song

  • Isaac is a genius.

  • i dont know me, and you dont know you

  • barnacles in the attic

    -dee smale

  • in love since the first time i hear it. reminds me of my first girlfriend.

    wherever u are Mary, thanks

  • Issac Brock is the cure for Road Rage. This song is one of my go-to's for a good reason.

  • this song.. :)

  • what is it that reminds me of the pixies

  • This song is so bittersweet... I could just listen to it, close my eyes and travel to my own private world...

  • i second that

  • WOOOOOO gotta love indie

  • Use common sense... "Brackish Lake" is an actual phrase. "Blackish" isn't even a real word.

  • @pearz420 Yes it is. I blackish. You blackish. He, she, we blackish.

  • @uglyguitarman I'm pretty sure he said brackish

  • @cuhlein7 Yeah. I'm just trying to be funny saying blackish is a word. But it could be, right?

  • Yep, it's bRackish and I have spent hours replaying this song. I love it soooooo much! I got to see Isaac with Ugly Casanova once in Cleveland. Great set but it turned out to be a baaaadddddd night.....

  • So fucking beautiful

  • @ReiseIrvin1987 lol I get that all the time. I guess I was just first to think of it...I use the name everywhere.

  • Indie doesn't make something great. Greatness is what makes something great. This has greatness.

  • @catcrossbow Great comment friend

  • @catcrossbow Isaac Brock is what makes something great ;-)

  • @Enriquezimirish That is because Isaac Brock wakes up in the morning and pisses creative flow.

Also, it is 'brackish lake' for anybody still arguing over that.

  • @Enriquezimirish It doesn't give me the option to dislike your comment, not saying I would. Just think it's kinda righteous. :-)

  • @catcrossbow shut the fuck up ghandi

  • @catcrossbow not going to lie, that's kinda fucking stupid

  • @WTFsubzero not gonna lie, you kinda missed the point.

  • @frylock2314 kinda... missed the boat! (bad joke)

  • ◕‿◕

  • Simply Beautiful.

  • Best song to drink whiskey to after smoking a fatty. haha, sets the mood everytime.

  • @hellshandfull - Yes, absolutely.

  • The lyrics are pretty wrong in a few spots.

  • @LucidDream to each their own

  • @LucidDream It is not that the lyrics are wrong, it is your comprehension that is weak.

  • @hellshandfull No, they were most certainly wrong. I think he took them down, not sure...but one that stood out to me was the line,"...the bottom of a brackish lake.", which is right...but it didn't say that in the lyrics he provided. I'm positive.

  • @LucidDream I think we're at a misunderstanding, but Isaac Brock has a speech impediment. I think he was saying "at the bottom of a blackish lake."

  • @hellshandfull Could be, but most of the lyrics I've seen has said "Brackish". If you look up the word on wiki, it talks about brackish water. Made sense to me, more than blackish.

  • @LucidDream We'll never know until one of us meets Isaac and asks him what he was saying. haha.

  • I love the intro so much, and am disappointed that no one does it in their covers.

  • @ExtraKawaii They would need a reverse pedal or module on their amp.

  • This song is Modest Mouse and Pinback put together. Nothing is better.

  • i don't need to see i don't you see the dislike i thing i'll just click like

  • i don't need to see the dislike icon there no use for it

  • I want to see if im the only one thinks the song is about what i think. Someone one wanna say what they think?

  • @MrISAACFACE Check out Mountain Goats-No Children. I think it's pretty much the same thing

  • @MrBrendank78 I rofld

  • @dirtyglass69

    Hipster

  • 2 dislikes?!?!..idiots

  • It appears Youtube is Forcing google account linkings. I refuse. They've ruined this

site. This is probably the last comment I'll ever make here.

  • Grab your friends, roll a joint up, roll the windows down, put on some UC, and just cruise. It makes no difference where you're going to. It's all about the journey itself.

  • I see the points that everyone is making. I absolutely love MM and UC. I especially like the fact that I will never hear this song on a mainstream radio station. I also enjoy the fact that if I am traveling in my car, I can put on a song like this one for my passenger/friend knowing that they probably have never heard it. More than likely that person will enjoy it as much as I do. There's nothing egotistical or "hipster" about that. That's how I learned about UC.

  • this song is so beautiful. #i'm truly in love

  • How does the fact that a song is "largly unknown" add to the greatness? By that statement, the more accepted a song is, the worse it gets. Terrible way to think. One should want to spread such great music like this, so that others can enjoy.

  • @MissingTime1

Im glad im not the only one who thinks this way

  • I don't know myself..

  • i d0nt undstnd tha musik ?

  • dude fairly unknown?

the fucking singer is from modest mouse lmao

either way, that shit doesn't matter if its good, its good.

  • Comment removed

  • @kennydough That's not even worth 'raging' about..

  • Comment removed

  • @kennydough Well, actually, "colour" is the British spelling; neither one is wrong. And be careful to use the correct version of "it's" before you throw stones. ;)

  • @kennydough

Americans don't have a "u" in the word color or favorite. The Brits do, but not Americans. And can you write without putting a period where a comma should have been? Way to prove exactly the opposite of your incorrect point.

  • @kennydough thats sad if thats one of the main things you rage about

  • @kennydough by the way the english add in the u, not americans. if your going to try and "rage" on something at least get the topic straight. plus you said this song doesnt deserve your rageing, so why put the comment?

  • @Narutard1213

no idiot, too many fucking people use it that would imply the whole fucking world is brits

  • @kennydough the only people I've ever seen use it are the British....

  • i still can't get over this song. one of my all time favorites and i hear a lot of music. isaac, i applaud you.

  • 1:12 "I don't know me, and you don't know you. So we fit so good together 'cause I knew you like I knew myself."

It just hits your brain right.

  • @berriblossom amen

  • this is the surfing move "Sipping Jetstreams". awesome music and movie...

  • we clung on likeeee.

barnacles on a boat, even if the ship sinks ya know ya cant let go..

    some real shit.

  • cigarette, rain, solitude and this song.

    im set.for the day,

  • this song is amazingness in a hat

  • just need some rain.got my candles lit and feet up!

  • damn!.....candles are lit cold drink in hand the only thing missing is rain pouring outside !

  • This actually got my foot tapping.. this is wonderful. :3

  • john orth worked on these songs too, let's give him a little credit.

  • sometimes I find it scary how much I can relate to Isaac Brock's lyrics.

    I don't need to see

I don't see how you see

    Out of your window

I don't need to see, I'll paint it black

some of the most beautiful and outright depressing stuff ive ever heard.

  • @MrISAACFACE lame example. learn the rest of the words.

  • @Goshdangit69 lil' cold there, arnt ya, bra? and i was just pointing out they were the lyrics i could relate to the most, not necessarily the best.

  • 1 person doesnt know and is going to paint it black.......

cant believe ugly casanova doesnt have haters ;)) im proud. dont see how someone couldnt enjoy this.

  • this song is ridiculously awesome. pure poetry, really.

  • makes me cry because of all the memories...i still remember the first time i heard this...noo thats a lie i dont,,,but i reminds me of tha year in California...i loved all of them

  • I love this song more than most things in life. The lyrics are so amazing they speak to me...absolutely amazing

  • Beautiful.

  • Isaac Brock = Love

  • ive bought this album maybe a half dozen ten times. I always hand it out to freinds saying you gotta hear this. And they always end up stealing it.

  • @waxnfax hahah sweet.... I love indie bands.... It just sucks that the world has to listenin to lil wayne than bands like this

  • @xxbleach52xx i love both so...................

  • one of my favorite songs of all time

    the line

my light came up quick, call it your asterisk,

buried like boys in a boys first book of the stars

gets me every time...its so nostalgic but that nostalgia is universal...melancholy and beautiful.

its depressing as hell but its comforting.

    I LOVE IT

  • This is probably my favorite song by Issac Brock, even Modest Mouse doesn't sound this great.

  • @Jachel292

That's like saying John Lennon sounds better than The Beatles.

    Does not compute.

  • @sofukindumb but McCartney does.

  • ...this, one, Cat Faces, Parasites, Bukowski, & So Long are all true.

  • liked this song the first time i heard it on sipping jetstreams couple yrs back... still get the same 'feeling'

  • cant connect with music like i do with UC and MM!!

  • i painted my window black

  • @ scoobyfan2009

I agree that Isaac lets his creative side shine through in all his projects, creating a VERY unique feel that ive never quite had with other bands.

  • Wow not to many bands give me the feeling like modest mouse does. This is a diffrent case. Guess its just Issac Bruce. EPIC!!!!

  • issac brock :) hahah.

  • @travisskates1432

My bad typo...lol dont know who I was talking about there.

  • @scoobyfan2009 its isaac brock not isaac bruce

  • @F22ave

That was 5 months ago.... I already said I had a typo lol

  • <3!!!

  • Hard to say if this one is the best, for me. Hotcha & Smoke Like Ribbons are also 2 great songs of theirs. But, this song was the song that hooked me too them (although Modest Mouse brought me to them, so I had no problem connecting with this side of Isaac Brock).

  • its brackish not blackish

  • This is such a great song. In addition, the fact that it is largely unknown adds to it's greatness

  • @dirtyglass69 hipster scum lol

  • @dirtyglass69 ...why? that's such a contrived hipster way to think. get over yourself and advocate SHARING music instead of hoarding it for the sole purpose of having an obscure name to drop for the growth of your ego. come on.

  • @EeatYyourPparents you're right.. the fact that I enjoy hidden gems is obviously aimed at fueling my ego. The only reason I listen to music is so that I can discuss it and be cool! But wait.. I've suggested Ugly Casanova to many people, so that would mean... you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about! :o! no.. that can't be right. You have a youtube account so you must be qualified in this type of area

  • @dirtyglass69 Think of what you said (the fact that it is largely unknown adds to it's greatness) in this light...

The greatness of a song diminishes as more people learn about it.

  • @MissingTime1 - Actually, to an extent, it can diminish. Bon Iver's "For Emma" was an incredible album, until everyone associated Bon Ivers music to a particular scene (hipster). The album lost a lot of its meaning for me, knowing it was simply an accessory, rather than a work of art.

  • @9ner couldn't agree with u anymore. this whole i'm a "indie hipster scene" style now is not even about being different, its a trend now.

  • @EeatYyourPparents No you don't know what your talking about. You yourself suggested that this song is made better by the fact that it's unknown to most people, furthering EeatYyourPparents's point.

  • @EeatYyourPparents - There is nothing egotistic about enjoying an obscure band, partly because of its esoteric aesthetic. Generally, in my opinion, when bands become increasingly popular, they essentially become an accessory for ones personality. Of course, underground music, especially now a days, serves as a fashion statement rather than an invigorating music scene. But, say during the Splint, early MM, dinosaur jr., built to spill days...indie rock was indie rock, and not contaminated.

  • @9ner I def see where you're coming from. Same idea of when something is labelled as 'cool' (or just mainstream) it is no longer cool. It's kind of a circular way of thinking though because who's to determine the limit of how many people can enjoy whichever unknown artist.Maybe you're the supporter/fan who tips the scale. on the one hand when i hear a good song/artist i want everyone to know about it, but too many people don't appreciate it like they should. you're right. it becomes an accessory

  • @dirtyglass69

honestly i don't understand how its obscurity adds to your enjoyment, just get over your pretentiousness and enjoy it for its beauty.

  • @biscuthead123 no offense man but you're the one that comes as as pretty pretentious in that exchange.

  • @ArtFart001

    ruck my rick

  • My favourite Ugly Casanova song.

  • @clk22 True that, definitely one of the best songs on the album.

  • luv this song!
