Can anyone tell me if you can change the view point in the game, as you could in the previous games? Such as view the missions from the cockpit, or trailing behind the plane? I am not a big fan of the moving camera......
Namco, Please do a new gen remake of Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere. WITHOUT this new "Hawx" style of gameplay. This isn't Ace Combat, this is a joke. Please don't kill this amazing series we've grown to love by trying to add new "flashy" elements. I'm sure there are other ways.

Its almost a great game.. The Dog fighting is ok but not great and the helicopter stuff though I thought it might be fun was quite a let down, overall its a 6 out of 10 in my opinion.. in other words wait till its like $19.99 to buy it.
Guys I have a question for who owns this game: how is it compared to ac5 squadron leader? I personally think ac5 is the most beautiful game of this series but I don't have the ps3 so... can I expect the same immersive plot or not? Thank you.
@fryanventu Defiantely not I'm afraid, but the thing that saves it for me is the soundtrack, absolutely epic! Hell, I'm even thinking of replaying it just for that reason!
Also, the DFM sounds quite fun on multiplayer since it's more dynamic and not scripted, but I have yet to try it.

Gameplay is above average, controls are easy to understand, a multiplayer game so its a plus but campaign might not suit the daily requirements of awesomesauce that other ACs have done in the past. But, beyond the eyecandy, the OST is the one thing truly saving this game
wish they had more missions like in AC6 and the variety of aircraft and yes no regeneration of health but i like the graphics of ACAH just the campaign is too short now companies dont even care abt story line so much all they care abt now is online gameplay -.- however there are things that can be improved in both games...such as ground targets in AC6 move much much faster than in real life, some glitches here and there but overall sold game better than ACAH >.> im a bit disappointed

I loved the acting and story of assault horizon, but i hated how you are basicly forced to use the "new dog fight mode", ya its fucking awsome...but i miss how it used to be.
Such a fucking disappointment. The pilot you play actually talks. What the fuck. It's always been all about the silent protagonist. And making you 'crush the rebels'? Why the fuck would I want to do that? All the other games always made you feel like you were fighting to defend something, not just 'crush rebels'. Raeeggggg.
I think the main problem with AC assault horizon was the DFM and especially ASM, they just took the whole fun out of the game and made it more like a movie especially when you hit the enemy 7 times but it has to pass the canyon so it could do some movie clip explosion.. As a whole if they kept it like AC 6 but with a few changes they couldn't have gone wrong, this is completely different and fairly poo hence why its only £17 on Amazon and AC 6 remains £50 to buy new
Um...I question why you focused on the fighters and not the bombers (AKA Your TGT). Also I can't speak for the quality of the game...I played Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception for PSP.
the DFM system is cool to look at, but i don't think it's that much fun to play. and the supermaneuverability is cool, but shouldn't it be restricted to supermaneuverable planes?
Im not a fighter pilot but im pretty sure today they kill the enemy at pretty far distances since their rockets can lock on from really far away. Its not like in ww1 or 2 where you had to get at like 20meters distance to make a kill with your machinegun. thats what I dont like about the nex Ace Combat. But the video is really cool so thanks for that!
@Ducilios Haha. True that, but you could just fire the rocket when the aircraft is passing by at 2000km/h and it blows to pieces right next to you in an epic explosion^^
I sometimes have difficulties playing with this outside view on your aircraft because of the camera switching between the fixed back view to the view from under your cockpit/gun attachments. When going into dogfight - where the big circle in the middle appears - you need to follow your enemy but the game has a strong assist system, even if you don't touch the controls your plane follows the enemy to a serious degree, especially when you have a scripted dogfight.
@Lenariet So wait, the game just...flies for you? I seriously don't see how this is fun. How you've described it, it seems like more of a rail shooter with quick-time-events than an Ace Combat game.
The game gives you a lot of assistance to keep up with enemies when going into the Dogfight mode that is new to the series with Assault Horizon. But that is bloody necessary in my opinion considering the crazy maneuvers some of them pull off. If you don't touch the controls you will still lose track of them. When flying and fighting the "regular" way - with the enemies just being surrounded by a red triangle indicating a missile lock-on - there is no assistance at all.
And actually I enjoyed it. I don't think it's that much different from the previous games, basically. The problem is that you are forced to engange some enemies in dogfight mode because the game "wants" you to follow them through ground structures at very low altitude. That's what I meant with scripted battles. You can't kill those enemies before you haven't followed them to a certain point/in the cinematic way the developers want you to (they just don't die or spam flares).
The hardcore AC fans shouldn't be that harsh on it, it is a decent game, but I too believe that it wants to be a bit too much a Call of Duty. I miss their strangereal world, sci-fi weaponry ("Trinity" is just a cruise missile), wingmen commands, personalized enemy pilots and planes, multiple mission paths and so on. I've seen such things in the console and handheld games and don't see why they never keep it in their next games (not only in Assault Horizon but in general).
@Lenariet The one thing I miss is the tunnel. There's (nearly) always a tunnel in the Ace Combat games -- Megalith, Sudentor, Avalon Dam. But then again, as you rightly note, this game was going for realism rather than the "strangereal world" thing anyhow. I'm kind of meh about the decision, but whatever.

@theloopholeisntaahol I felt the same way. I enjoyed it, but they relied WAY too much on DFM (which is badass, but what if I don't want to use it?). And I REALLY wished it took place in that fake world they have. To be honest, what I loved about AC4, 5, and 6 was that it was obvious that Japanese people made it. It was over the top, an insane story, dramatic, cliched, and everything that I have come to love about Japanese stories. This was just COD in the sky :(

@KingOstrava The combat system is a joke. When you enter "dogfight mode" no matter how many missiles you shoot at the plane, it does not blow up until you reach something cool for the enemy jet to crash into. Have you played the previous Ace Combats? There are around 20-30 missions per game instead of 14, there are no checkpoints, no regenerating health, an original story line, and characters that you actually care about.

@phenoix I started with the 6th. I've played all others, even the original Air Combat. Assault Horizon isn't nearly as bad as the hardcore gamers say it is; 'tis weak, but 'tis a lot better than the average game.
@theloopholeisntaahol im a AC fan since air combat on ps1, and i think AH is the best game in the series, the others were great, but the devs and fans were getting tired of the same exactly gameplay over and over in every sequel, AH is new and exciting, a breath of fresh air, and while I agree that its sometimes too easy to pull off DFM, the gameplay is is more in depth and brings new gameplay elements
BTW: don't ever compare ace combat is that garbage HAWX, AC is the king of flight games

actually you to counter, to line up the arow you have to slow down your plane and make sure your plane is level otherwise you're not going to countr for shit
To counter maneuver, you line up the two arrows and press LT+RT. I noticed the sideways counter maneuver. Is it done by going sideways and LT+RT? Also how do you do cobra counter maneuver?
i have this haunting feeling that guts gets killed or something cuz the russians were all like, it'd be an honor to shoot you down. that'd suck cuz like in ace combat 5, your wingman (forgot name) gets shot down into a stadium and it's actually quite sad cuz they do such a good job at making your wingmen seem like they're your friend in real life so that when something does happen to them you can't help but feel somewhat sad :(

@KingOstrava The combat system is a joke. When you enter "dogfight mode" no matter how many missiles you shoot at the plane, it does not blow up until you reach something cool for the enemy jet to crash into. Have you played the previous Ace Combats? There are around 20-30 missions per game instead of 14, there are no checkpoints, no regenerating health, an original story line, and characters that you actually care about.

@phenoix I started with the 6th. I've played all others, even the original Air Combat. Assault Horizon isn't nearly as bad as the hardcore gamers say it is; 'tis weak, but 'tis a lot better than the average game.

@theloopholeisntaahol im a AC fan since air combat on ps1, and i think AH is the best game in the series, the others were great, but the devs and fans were getting tired of the same exactly gameplay over and over in every sequel, AH is new and exciting, a breath of fresh air, and while I agree that its sometimes too easy to pull off DFM, the gameplay is is more in depth and brings new gameplay elements
BTW: don't ever compare ace combat is that garbage HAWX, AC is the king of flight games

actually you to counter, to line up the arow you have to slow down your plane and make sure your plane is level otherwise you're not going to countr for shit

To counter maneuver, you line up the two arrows and press LT+RT. I noticed the sideways counter maneuver. Is it done by going sideways and LT+RT? Also how do you do cobra counter maneuver?

i have this haunting feeling that guts gets killed or something cuz the russians were all like, it'd be an honor to shoot you down. that'd suck cuz like in ace combat 5, your wingman (forgot name) gets shot down into a stadium and it's actually quite sad cuz they do such a good job at making your wingmen seem like they're your friend in real life so that when something does happen to them you can't help but feel somewhat sad :(
