  • I absolutely love this peice. Not to take anything away from Richter (my god you couldnt if you wanted )but if you ever get the chance try to find Yuri Rozum's rendition of this beautiful Rachmaninoff piece. The first time I heard Prelude in D Major, it was from him...so I might be a bit biased..but after hearing many others since, I still maintain that his and Richter's are tied for the best.

  • High poetry!

  • Wow, I just got this Rachmaninoff Prelude to be my new Ringtone. I can't get enough of it. It is hauntingly beautiful!

  • I'm an 18 year old male, and this song made me cry... no joke.

  • the soft soaring way he approaches the volume of those high notes is remarkable

  • rach definitely got all of the bitches with the part at 2:37

  • I love it when contrapuntal textures mix with romantic pieces and the fact that this piece is nocturne-like makes it that much better.

Rachmaninoff you genius, I wish I could study with you.

  • That is the best interpretation of this piece I've ever heard. It has all the warmth and heartache and no need to rush as many feel they ought to.

  • i dont have words , but i have to type something...tears and a glass of wine..

  • Absolutely astounding!

  • One of my all-time favourites - especially with Richter playing! Wonderful :-)

  • The best performance ever! Neither Rachmaninoff can play this piece as well as Richter. Rach, certainly, would be very proud. I love Rach's compositions and his recordings, but this one is so good, so good, so incredible and perfect that I dare to say it is the best one ever. I could give my life to hear a recital with Rach and Richter playing together. Let's drink in memory of them!

  • Try Weissenberg's recital, it is as good as Richter's but a little more unbridled.

  • Richter was a true virtuoso. This is simply exquisite. What a treat! Thanks for sharing this!

  • this is how music will sound in heaven: -)

  • it will be better

  • This is music.

  • Redemption

  • One person went from this gorgeous piece to a lil wayne playlist

  • @Johann2Lars could have been me hahaha

    variety!

  • Have anyone listen to Stanislav Neuhaus's performance?

  • Splendid, thanks.

  • I can listen to this AMAZING, SUPERB recording 10 times, 20 times in a row... It is divine... Richter, Rachmaninoff... This prelude is pure blessing.

  • I'm speechless ...as usual...listening Richter...thanks.

  • Does somebody know the date of this execution? Is it live?

  • @silesius32 Studio recording from 1971.

  • this is my fav. rach's prelude. so beautiful. i was moved everytime when i hear the chord at 3:57 . seems like a relieve of sth in my life for me.

  • thanks again thom or jony i forgot who posted this on their playlist

  • yes he definitely sold out to Yamaha. Not a bad instrument but you wonder how the Steinways , Bechsteins would have respònded

  • @mradipatti Not true. He received no compensation from Yamaha, although Yamaha did supply pianos to various remote places that Richter chose to play in towards the end of his life (e.g., Siberia). And, btw, this was recorded on a Steinway.

  • simply beautiful.

Rachmaninoff is definitely one of my top composers.

    <3 pretty music.

  • A true song without words beautifully projected by the great Richter.

  • What a gorgeous piece. It reminds me of one person in particular. Ah life!

  • This is an absolutely gorgeous piece of music, passionately but delicately given to all who listen as a great gift. What a wonderful composer and artist!

  • This is by far my favourite recording of this piece. In my opinion, it's perfect...

  • @Archacki2004 I love Richter and after hearing him playing this piece several times I agree with you. This is perfection

  • @Archacki2004 Indeed a very beautiful rendition. Jean-Philippe Collard's rendering is also superb.

  • @Archacki2004 I prefer zimermans slightly, but this one is very awesome too yeah

  • @musiclassic1 Have you ever heard Yuri Rozam's interpretation? I think that his and Richter are tied for the best.

  • Simply Richter...

  • Beatiful piece... Tonality is D major

  • I love Richter. Also Jon Nakamatsu made me cry when he played this.

  • This is probably the greatest performance of this piece in my opinion because of the clarity of the voicing as well as Richters great musicianship in general. The tone of the Yamaha piano takes some getting use too however. Sergio Fiorentino did an exellent recording as well.

  • It's D major. the one before is d minor.
