  • this use to scare the shit out of me

  • ooooooooonl

  • thank you for posting this. I remember this intro as a kid. I always stayed up watching Creature features and Chiller. What wonder times!!

  • I remember seeing this as a 6 year old back then, it turned out to be nightmare fuel.

  • 5 fingers and a thumb!

  • They started using this on that network in 1971! It's an old one, apparently! But still quite surreal and eerie.

  • What a great childhood memory! The late Saturday night entry is what I remember most with films like "The Crawling Eye", "Dracula vs. Frankenstein", "Horrors Of The Black Museum", "Return From The Past", etc... Great times!

  • It was great to see that hand again. I remember seeing this when I was a kid

  • I remember this.

  • Dude this Chiller theater opening back in the day use to scare the crap out of me and to make it worse my brothers use to hold the door so couldnt get out of the room while this was on(lol). But really good to see the old Chiller Hand again!

  • @WOLF10307 Yes it is good to see this hand again. I remember this and I was young at the time

  • holy shit... after 30 years and this intro still gives my fear bumps.

  • Wow, What a blast from the past. I used to stay up every week to watch Chiller, Like many others I never realized that the hand had six fingers. It still creeps me out today.

  • hairyhand: right on. We had monsters that were campy, fun, spooky and sometimes even scary. Today, ripping apart of flesh, psychopaths who torture, etc., no comparison to today's movies at all which is gore just for the sake of it.

  • the infamous 6 fingered hand

  • every saturday at 8pm in 70's great show.

  • Yeah, this was one of the scariest things from my childhood...

  • this intro gave me fuckin nightmares when i was younger!! awesome!!

  • that hand scared the shit out of me when i was a kid lol

  • @jordanrivers1 MEEE2

  • Great Memories, wow, New York midnite tv of afternoon horror. wow. Thanks for the upload.

  • Is it me or does the voice sound like Homer Simpson?

  • Wow!! That was an awesome intro for a scary movie back then. Thanks for putting this video up!

  • @LATVERIAN1

I was getting scared too back in Northeastern NJ back in those days too, my friend. If it wasn't Chiller, my cousins and family were always tuned into Creature Features on WNEW 5. Sometimes we changed channels during commercials to try to see both movies, but that usually never worked out, lol

These were great days and I miss them a lot. Thank God some people from Youtube had the hindsight to post this old stuff for us to remember so fondly!

  • My older brother would do the chiller hand from the lower trundle bed! Is scared the piss out of me!

  • Nothing frightened me more when I was a kid, watching this alone on a Saturday night back in NY. Now as a grown man, I'll be darned if it still doesn't give me the creeps. Thanks for posting this classic intro.

  • This intro scared the shit out of me when I was a kid!

  • @MagnaderAlpha

Right you are, friend. "Chiller's" opening, and the long low voice that says "Chiller" scared many of us kids who are now in their mid-late 40's and beyond (in some cases) . But it was SO cool!

This was the day of the Monster Movie, and aside from old Aurora monster modle kits, Weird magazine, and old cartoons, Saturday night monster movies are what I lived for (and still do.)

There's an empty space in my heart on Saturday nights now :-(

  • After I heard that one guy say the voice that says "Chiller" sounds like Homer Simpson, that's all I think about it. It makes it almost hilarious, even though this intro is freaking terrifying.

  • Chiller Hand: Hey Billy Corgan, look how many fingers I have!

    Billy Corgan: Five fingers!

Chiller Hand: No, that's not the right answer. There is one more finger! Try another guess!

    Billy Corgan: Six fingers?

Chiller Hand: YEEEEEEESSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You got it! Here is a reward that I have for you! It's a Snicker candy bar!

Billy Corgan: Thank you, Mr. Chiller Hand!

Chiller Hand: You're welcome! I'll see ya later! Bye!

    Billy Corgan: Bye!

(The Chiller Hand waves goodbye) LOL

  • @CrowTRobot1313 Where did you get this intro??? I love it! I love the

Chiller Hand intro! Even when I am 17 years old right now I love this intro!

It makes me laugh because the hand has six fingers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Scary back then when you're 3 or 4 years old but I loved this (and Creature Double Feature!) Now show "The Manster" after it or "The Amphibian Man" and there goes my childhood!!! :)

  • This shit used to scare me back in the day. lol.

  • remember it well...note it has six fingers!

  • Good to see Idle Hands give this classic title some props.

  • That hand...it has...SIX FINGERS!

  • @SilentHillAsylum83 I just noticed that too. XD

  • HAHA!

i haven't seen this in decades!

That thing used to scare the crap out of me when i was a kid

  • Still effective!

  • Dude, being a kid was cool back then. I lived in Buffalo ny but early cable tv gave us Wpix ny station, . For us it came on at 8:oo on saturday. Comocally the one I remember most was the Dracula vs Frankenstein. When you were a kid this was the highlight of your week!

  • With WPIX adding Antenna tv, I think it'll be totally awesome if they added 11 Alive tv where the program schedules are exactly of the 1970's, including commercials and news of the time. It'll be like traveling back in time and see the news on Son of Sam capture, Chiller Theater, The Six Million Dollar Man toy commercials, etc.

  • I haven't seen this in 30 years. The hand really did have 6 fingers, I thought I'd imagined that.

  • I am getting goosebumps watching this . This was the most frightening thing I ever seen when I was a child. Now it's just cool nostalgia. Lol.

  • Does anyone know who spoke the word "Chiller" ? I thought it might be Boris Karloff, but the voice sounds like it's from someone younger than Karloff was at the time

  • this is when tv was good.the music was and still is quite eerie, but great memories.i would really like to have this show on again

  • An indelible image in my childhood memory watching Chiller Theater every Saturday morning.

  • Chiller Movies shown: Horror Hotel, Invaders from Mars, many Toho movies: War of the Gargantas, Monster Zero, Destroy All Monsters, Godzilla Vs. King Kong, many Spanish horror movies- Frankenstein's Bloody Terror, etc. the ultra cheap Dracula Vs. Frankenstein, The Giant Claw, many cheap Euro gothic Barbara Steele movies, Horrors of the Black Museum (the one with the lady that looks into a pair of binocculars and spikes come out), and assorted 1950s sci-fi & monster movies

  • as said before DOES ANYONE KNOW WHO CREATED THIS? Any leads at all ??

  • The Chiller intro used to scare the hell out of me as a kid watching it back in the day.I wish they would put it back on the tv as it was good watching the Classic Scifi and Horror flicks on the boobtube

  • STILL one of the MOST CHILLING OPENINGS of any Horror Show ever!

  • This is so cool thanks for the post! This scared the crap out of me as a kid but I couldn't help watching it every time

  • i too grew up with this it used to scare the hell out of me..and what great horror movies back then nothing like todays garbage..i used to check under my bed before i went to sleep after that....

  • I was very young and very little when this on WPIX-TV where b-movies would be advertised during commercial break. Even certain Hollywood features would be advertised, too. By the way, thanks for posting.

  • Six fingers!

  • I WAS A KID WHEN THIS OPENING SCAN PLAYED IN THE 70"S 11PM SAT.NIGHTS IT WAS A GREAT TIME FOR ME AND GREAT TO SEE THIS ONCE AGAIN BRINGS ME BACK TO WHEN TIMES WERE FUN AND STAYING HOME ALONE WAS NOT THAT BAD OUTSTANDING CLIP...I LOVE IT!

  • {OUTSTANDING CLIP"] OH YA I DO REMEMBER THIS OPENING

  • Scarier than most horror films.

  • maaannn ..i remember seeing this shit when my mom and pop was out for the night i made sure all the motha fuckin lights in the house was on...i not bullshiting about that.

  • Does anyone know the credits for this; i.e. the voice, the music, the artist or designer?

  • @chasxyz1234 WOW IT WAS A GUY WHO WORKED ON UNCLE FLOYD SHOW

  • I grew up on chiller theater, monster movie matinee, and creature feature. I love horror movies, guess these programs had an impact.

  • @IamDez212 Creature Feature was on Channel 5 in the New York area. That intro had great music. It had the snippet of the dinosaur from "The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms".

  • Use to scare the shit out of me as a kid

  • and i'm sure everyone noticed...the six fingered hand.

  • I remember this intro very well! My God, it's been years since I've seen it. I can't add anything to these postings - that hand scared the hell out of me, more so than the movie that followed. I don't know who did the accompanying sound effects, but they are brilliant.

  • A classic. I used to run to the tv just for the intro. It was so scary. I dont remember the movies. Many thanks for posting this. This brought back memories.

  • The best was when these were on during sleepovers. I thought having 6 fingers on the hand was an inspired touch.

  • lets give em a hand!

  • Pix 11 is showing chiller theater RIGHT NOW it must be a holloween special two bela lugosi movies

  • the Infamous Six Fingered claymation hand, gotta love it !

  • This is the BEST introduction to any (horror) show!...Ever! As a kid growing up in the 70's I remember racing to see it...because the movie itself wouldn't be the same without watching the 'hand' at the beginning! Back then we had 'monsters'! Today kids watch killers and torturers...not the same. Too bad. I feel they're missing out.

Thanks You Tube for showing bits and pieces of nostalgia! Chiller and Creature Feature were the Best!

  • @hairyhand I TOTALLY agree, they ARE missing out! Horror movies used to be fun with actual creature & interesting characters. Nowadays it's all about being demented & torture. There's nothing like theway it used to be which iswhy they've tried to make all these remakes of the classics. BTW this "chiller" intro used to scare the crap out of me! lol

  • @EQ360 WOW YOU SAID IN A NUT SHELL THE DAYS ARE ALL BEHIND ED US NOW HOWEVER THE WITH THAT BEING SAID TIMES ONLY GET HARDER AND I DO MISS THE OLD DAYS WHEN BEING ALONE ON A SAT. NIGHT 11PM CHANNEL 11 IN THE NJ, NYC AREA WAS THE 70'S TV SHOWS WAS ALL I LOOKED FOR WAY WAY BACK IN THE GOOD OLD DAYS..........SAD BUT TRUE THE KIDS TODAY NEVER KNEW JUST WHAT IT WAS LIKE TO BE SCARED ......

  • @hairyhand ---I totaly agree!! And that hand was very scary to us. Now, at 47 yrs old, I still think it's very cool!

  • best quality of the hand on youtube to date! Thank you for sharing

  • The intro was scarier than most of the movies being show-cased.

  • @DaveFromBrooklyn You are so right about that. 11:30-P.M. Friday & Saturday night This SCARED the hell out of me when I was a kid. The intro WAS more scarier than some of those awful movies. Brings back MANY memories. :o)

  • @DaveFromBrooklyn Mostly because it was Claymation! LOL There's something about claymation that automatically makes things more surreal and weird, I don't know what it is. LOL

  • Thanks, this is the best copy that I've seen posted so far,it actually contains the audio part at the end when the hand sinks down that other posts of this don't.However there's a bit of a skip at 0:22 causing the video to end a hair later than the audio,I'll bet there's someone out there that could edit the second or so of missing audio in(I might try it myself).

  • This is so cool! I grew up in Astoria, NY and loved watching Chiller Theater on Saturday nights/Sunday mornings. Have always had fond memories of the intro and frequently describe it to my girlfriend when we are about to watch a horror movie. Wow, I never thought I would ever see this clip again. Never realized until now that Chiller Theater was limited to the New York area on WPIX.

  • how did u get this clip?it's before we had VCR'S.

  • i just realized the hand has 6 fingers

  • @martha045 Haha, a lot of us didn't realize that until later, we were so busy looking at it and either getting scared or going, "oh COOL!" I was never scared by this as a kid (started watching it back in 1970 at age 6) and always thought it was neat.

So many memories of that bygone day...Jiffy Pop popcorn, Aurora monster model kits, monster magazines, my family and friends all sitting together watching all those corny old movies. It was just like yesterday :-)

  • real creepy!!! brings back alot of memories when i was a kid!!!

  • Great clip! Is this clip edited in the middle or was this just a shorter version that WPIX used?

  • Really, really great! Thanks for posting

  • Werd! As a kid, I was always more fascinated by this opening than scared..

There was just something about that off white-reddish expanse of wasteland, like some setting sunset in some far off place unknown to anyone.

The hand, rising from the pool of blood, like some phantom...it all came together to create the most memorable opening to any TV horror show in the history of the genre.

And what a great memory too, lots of fun memories of days gone by!

  • Are you kidding? The audio is better than on other postings of this opening! (Though I did notice a skip near the end.)

  • Same, the skip is small but very noticeable to us old late night TV warriors.

Not too bad though considering we're getting to hear the end part after all these years. Job well done, ya' done good ;-)
