What a great childhood memory! The late Saturday night entry is what I remember most with films like "The Crawling Eye", "Dracula vs. Frankenstein", "Horrors Of The Black Museum", "Return From The Past", etc... Great times!
Dude this Chiller theater opening back in the day use to scare the crap out of me and to make it worse my brothers use to hold the door so couldnt get out of the room while this was on(lol). But really good to see the old Chiller Hand again!
Wow, What a blast from the past. I used to stay up every week to watch Chiller, Like many others I never realized that the hand had six fingers. It still creeps me out today.
hairyhand: right on. We had monsters that were campy, fun, spooky and sometimes even scary. Today, ripping apart of flesh, psychopaths who torture, etc., no comparison to today's movies at all which is gore just for the sake of it.
I was getting scared too back in Northeastern NJ back in those days too, my friend. If it wasn't Chiller, my cousins and family were always tuned into Creature Features on WNEW 5. Sometimes we changed channels during commercials to try to see both movies, but that usually never worked out, lol
These were great days and I miss them a lot. Thank God some people from Youtube had the hindsight to post this old stuff for us to remember so fondly!
Nothing frightened me more when I was a kid, watching this alone on a Saturday night back in NY. Now as a grown man, I'll be darned if it still doesn't give me the creeps. Thanks for posting this classic intro.
Right you are, friend. "Chiller's" opening, and the long low voice that says "Chiller" scared many of us kids who are now in their mid-late 40's and beyond (in some cases) . But it was SO cool!
This was the day of the Monster Movie, and aside from old Aurora monster modle kits, Weird magazine, and old cartoons, Saturday night monster movies are what I lived for (and still do.)
There's an empty space in my heart on Saturday nights now :-(
After I heard that one guy say the voice that says "Chiller" sounds like Homer Simpson, that's all I think about it. It makes it almost hilarious, even though this intro is freaking terrifying.
Scary back then when you're 3 or 4 years old but I loved this (and Creature Double Feature!) Now show "The Manster" after it or "The Amphibian Man" and there goes my childhood!!! :)
Dude, being a kid was cool back then. I lived in Buffalo ny but early cable tv gave us Wpix ny station, . For us it came on at 8:oo on saturday. Comocally the one I remember most was the Dracula vs Frankenstein. When you were a kid this was the highlight of your week!
With WPIX adding Antenna tv, I think it'll be totally awesome if they added 11 Alive tv where the program schedules are exactly of the 1970's, including commercials and news of the time. It'll be like traveling back in time and see the news on Son of Sam capture, Chiller Theater, The Six Million Dollar Man toy commercials, etc.
Does anyone know who spoke the word "Chiller" ? I thought it might be Boris Karloff, but the voice sounds like it's from someone younger than Karloff was at the time
Chiller Movies shown: Horror Hotel, Invaders from Mars, many Toho movies: War of the Gargantas, Monster Zero, Destroy All Monsters, Godzilla Vs. King Kong, many Spanish horror movies- Frankenstein's Bloody Terror, etc. the ultra cheap Dracula Vs. Frankenstein, The Giant Claw, many cheap Euro gothic Barbara Steele movies, Horrors of the Black Museum (the one with the lady that looks into a pair of binocculars and spikes come out), and assorted 1950s sci-fi & monster movies
The Chiller intro used to scare the hell out of me as a kid watching it back in the day.I wish they would put it back on the tv as it was good watching the Classic Scifi and Horror flicks on the boobtube
i too grew up with this it used to scare the hell out of me..and what great horror movies back then nothing like todays garbage..i used to check under my bed before i went to sleep after that....
I was very young and very little when this on WPIX-TV where b-movies would be advertised during commercial break. Even certain Hollywood features would be advertised, too. By the way, thanks for posting.
I WAS A KID WHEN THIS OPENING SCAN PLAYED IN THE 70"S 11PM SAT.NIGHTS IT WAS A GREAT TIME FOR ME AND GREAT TO SEE THIS ONCE AGAIN BRINGS ME BACK TO WHEN TIMES WERE FUN AND STAYING HOME ALONE WAS NOT THAT BAD OUTSTANDING CLIP...I LOVE IT!
maaannn ..i remember seeing this shit when my mom and pop was out for the night i made sure all the motha fuckin lights in the house was on...i not bullshiting about that.
@IamDez212 Creature Feature was on Channel 5 in the New York area. That intro had great music. It had the snippet of the dinosaur from "The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms".
I remember this intro very well! My God, it's been years since I've seen it. I can't add anything to these postings - that hand scared the hell out of me, more so than the movie that followed. I don't know who did the accompanying sound effects, but they are brilliant.
A classic. I used to run to the tv just for the intro. It was so scary. I dont remember the movies. Many thanks for posting this. This brought back memories.
This is the BEST introduction to any (horror) show!...Ever! As a kid growing up in the 70's I remember racing to see it...because the movie itself wouldn't be the same without watching the 'hand' at the beginning! Back then we had 'monsters'! Today kids watch killers and torturers...not the same. Too bad. I feel they're missing out.
Thanks You Tube for showing bits and pieces of nostalgia! Chiller and Creature Feature were the Best!
@hairyhand I TOTALLY agree, they ARE missing out! Horror movies used to be fun with actual creature & interesting characters. Nowadays it's all about being demented & torture. There's nothing like theway it used to be which iswhy they've tried to make all these remakes of the classics. BTW this "chiller" intro used to scare the crap out of me! lol

@DaveFromBrooklyn You are so right about that. 11:30-P.M. Friday & Saturday night This SCARED the hell out of me when I was a kid. The intro WAS more scarier than some of those awful movies. Brings back MANY memories. :o)
@DaveFromBrooklyn Mostly because it was Claymation! LOL There's something about claymation that automatically makes things more surreal and weird, I don't know what it is. LOL
Thanks, this is the best copy that I've seen posted so far,it actually contains the audio part at the end when the hand sinks down that other posts of this don't.However there's a bit of a skip at 0:22 causing the video to end a hair later than the audio,I'll bet there's someone out there that could edit the second or so of missing audio in(I might try it myself).

Billy Corgan: Five fingers!
Chiller Hand: No, that's not the right answer. There is one more finger! Try another guess!

Chiller Hand: YEEEEEEESSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You got it! Here is a reward that I have for you! It's a Snicker candy bar!
