Don't you guys forget the miracle voice of Franco Bonisolli. Boy, he could sing so many repertoirs.

YES!!! Beverly Sills! Marylin Horne! you just don't get this breed of singer anymore! Of course Beverly never fails when it comes to high notes but who else can (even if she was a bit shaky on the "full throated" F!)? Horne for the first time ever to me sounds a tad forced! but still very clean! I want this recording! One hell of a race to the end!

I have always regarded Mrs. Sills as the soprano that never fails (and she doesn't) but I couldn't help but hear a little bit of strain on that top F. The same goes for the ever agile Horne who blew the high C out of the house. Sometimes blowing doesn't always come out rt for us all...

I agree with you absolutely! I was just telling a couple of friends that Beverly Sills is the soprano "that never fails me" and to find someone else feels the same shocks me a little. She always has room for high notes, including her 70' recording of Lucia. Do you have her Donizetti 3 Queens?

I'm not a huge fan of Sills usually because of her overdecoration, but it seems to work so well here... This is thrilling stuff!

I know what you mean, as a good example, her recordings of Semele's arias feature an impossible amount of ornaments which kind of ruin the arias for me :\. I just had this rendition in my collection for some time and decided that adding it as an example of a particularly humongous finish to the scene wouldn't hurt :D. Plus, I love Horne's voice here, even though it isn't as omnipresent as Sills' :)!
