You know, you look at these guys and other bands of the day and they all look like polite young men you would take home to daddy. Today's bands look like you are ready to take them to jail and book them.
Ah yes, A wonderful song that takes me back , This song was played all the time in high school. A great song to sing along to, especially with that someone special.
love this song..The Buckingham's guitar player and I were in the same study class at Lane Tech in 1965. The rest of the group were from Shurz High School..our bitter rivals! how was that? Chicago in the 60's was the bomb...great groups...great friends..great times...but mostly...great music ! North Syde forever!
What a super classic wonderful song about love. The horns in the background marks the Buckingham's sound. "The girl of your dreams standing there all alone, can't you see your hurting me, don't you care?", So well written and performed, Yep, you are right, not to be repeated today. Oh well......
@tolanstout Doubletracking his voice? Is that a term anyone knows? Actually, it is just a bunch of double BULLSHIT. How would anyone double track his voice? Stu fucking PITDITY.
@larrydh57 Wow what a complete moron you are. Everyone knows what double-tracking is and for the 8 year-old's and people with mild down syndrome (such as yourself) that don't know, there is wikipedia. Look it up boy and then marvel at the truly talented artists that don't have to use a crutch like double-tracking their voice - something this singer did poorly.
@tolanstout Careful Tolan, Larry might have retard strength. Seriously this whole flame war started because a 55 year-old larrydh57 didn't know what double-tracking was. Grow up dude. You're 55!
@TheIntruders LO> Even my 8 year-old knows what double-tracking is and can already operate an auto-tune. Too bad they didn't have that back when the Buckinghams were making music. The lead singer needed it.
@larrydh57 Shut the F*** Up! You're probably some fat ass, ugly, stinky, disgusting poor excuse for a man. What a stupid comment you posted. Shit for brains LOSER!
@tolanstout My son has Down Syndrome and I am extremely offended by your ignorant comment. You must really be a LOSER to say something rude and distasteful like you did. I'll bet my son is smarter than you and has a lot more friends than you do. Anyone who insults a handicapped person is lower than a snakes belly. Your a sad excuse of a person. Do us a favor and EAT SHIT AND DIE!
@tolanstout What's actually happening here is the studio version is being played (common practice then and now for TV appearances; you'll notice of course the horns are nowhere to be found), and he is singing the lead live over that (much rarer for the time). Yes, the "double-track" effect is a bit off-putting here, since the vocals on the original single were not double-tracked. It was likely the sound engineer was asleep at the wheel when the cameras rolled; I doubt the result was deliberate.
I was in Chicago's Old Town in 1968 and had to duck into "The Empourium" to dodge many tornadoes going through the town and suburbs. I remember crawling into the store on my chest because of the wind and debris flying around outside. We all went back into a safer place and wouldn't ya know it. The Buckingham's were shopping in that store. I got to meet these guys. Yes they were very big in Chicago. Susan was one of my favorites...ya see I was in love with a girl named Susan at the time.
Al of you guys are getting old like me.. these song of our era makes us to feel we young again.. and our eyes beaming again for love! We really enjoyed our youth .. I grow up in Arica Chile.. But songs were so nice! Oh God my generation!

James William Guercio was honing his "CTA" chops using these guys' recordings increasingly as a "workshop" w/each successive session production.

@TechnoPath99 one guys using a violin bass, someones using an epiphone casino, anothers 0plpaying a voz continental organ and the drummers using a ludwig black oyster pearl kit. it looks a lot like thde beatles
The lead singer would never have escaped the public eye as quickly as he did in the 60's if he had comparable hits in today's music world....that may be a blessing for him!
Damn good performance, considering he was singing live over his own voice track --and now I've got the explanation of the background horns ( which provide such power for the melody ) ... Thanks guys, this is a great piece, backed up with some important notes from YOU !!
Ah, love the '60's. This brings back some great, and not so great, memories. I loved The Buckinghams and The Beatles, and just about everyone else. In those days, here in So. Co., it wasn't either or, you listened to everything 'cause it was all good. I even remember watching this show, as the Smothers Brothers was one of my favorite variety shows. And no, Dennis is not lip-syncing, he's over-singing the dub track. They were cute, and they had hair and they weren't covered in tats.
They were in a class in itself. No profanity or sloppy clothes. Just pure simplicity and incredible musical arrangements where the vibes of the tune just made you close your eyes and enjoy the moment and wonder how life was back when the song was just released. Fresh and new.
thanks so much for one of the best ever and i noticed 0 weak thumbs

Great video. If you listen closely, you can hear the singer is actually singing over the top of the studio track....so no lip-sync, but you get doubled vocal. Actually sounds pretty cool. I always liked the Buckinghams.
@marnew08 agreed. not only were guys cuter back then, but they were respectful. i'd rather have a boyfriend back then when they respectful. now most guys crass, crude, and disrespectful.
@chloewalker8089 i agree and guess what i thought when i got older it would get better ,no, they actually get worse. i have men 10 years younger than me talk more polite than men my own age.
As several people have mentioned, they have the Chicago horn section, and Guercio certainly contributed to both groups' sounds. Compare this one (w/ Guercio) to Kind of a Drag (without him, I think), and then listen to the first CTA album, and the harmonies on that. Whatever their backgrounds, I always thought early Chicago sounded like the very sophisticated, jazzified distillation of the Chicago area local pop group sound circa '65-'66.
I've had this song on my iPod for months and just re-discovered it yesterday. I've been hooked on it ever since. Love this video - Dennis is just so adorable! And I love the pre-"Chicago" horns too! A real gem from the great 60's. Thanks for uploading.
