...Only thing I wish.. if Pete was alive & young again.. Will see how even better he would be when he has $200 shoes given to him night In night Out...! Money on PeTe everytime. If only CELTICS would have drafted or traded for him.. Thats why this video gets me everytime, Celtics Famous H.C. having Pete so a few tricks, point being Pete would have titles and Celtics holy crap untouchable...
Greatest to ever touch a basketball Bill Russell(11 TITLES) & Mr. Pistol Pete Maravich(Untouchable Records in College including no 3pt line and STILL avged. 44.2 pts per game) and because of his pure showtime ability anywhere even with rain, sleet, snow or natural disaster.(the moves others wouldn't even think about it, to risky. But for a man that many say had the basketball on a string like a yo-yo. (you can also if you wanted Oscar Rogertson, Elgin Baylor in there too)
Rubio has that same quality of putting the ball in a place it couldn't seem to go. the predictions that rubio could pass and assist like pete have some basis. as a scorer though, he isn't in the conversation with pete...pete made you pay if laid off him, he's knock it down..rubio doesn't have that right now.
The best video ever. Great footage Pistol Pete GREATEST OFFENSIVE PLAYER EVER!!! . Great music too Boulevard of Broken Dreams great song, Wonderwheel great song, but the mashup is the greatest song ever!
I'm tired of hearing of Michael Jodan being the best, the best to me is this man Pistol Pete Maravich his moves were so unorthodox and initiative and was a improviser then any other. Boy, my new school is starting it's first basketball team and I'm going to get captain status, then we will win the local championship then I will dedicate a video to Pistol Pete Maravich for helping me and I will do that.
@iverson4mvp3 My pro opinion dude. I don't care if MJ Can dunk Pistol Pete can shoot and run better and has better tricks no disrespect I did not come here to argue.
This guy was the original showtime! Even magic admits that. He was something to see in his prime. I'm tired of people saying he is no Michael Jordan! Of course he is no Jordan, but In his prime, he would make Jordans head spin for sure.
for sure he was another type of player...but his shot was beyond everything what we see today or ever have seen....I mean - just consider- he also hit shots from beyond half court with regularity...who could do so today...
His shooting stroke was well respected, to say the least, but I think it is a stretch to say he hit shots beyond half court "with regularity." He did have extended range, past the college three point line, but no one can regularly shoot 50 footers.
If the 3 point shot was around when Pistol was at LSU he would have averaged 60 points a game easy. His 44+ career average is STILL the NCAA record. His still NCAA record of almost 3,700 career points is even more amazing, considering freshman were prohibited from playing on the varsity in Pete's day.
@PharaohNnamdi that's funny because i have an entire sports illustrated article talking about it but i guess some random basketball fan probably knows more than people who have researched all about pistol pete and studied basketball all their lives...
@rugbyfan0025 Yeah maybe it is funny. But it's funny how Sports Illustrated would neglect to say something like that on THEIR own website:
goo(dot)gl/0dVVT
And what do you mean by "they literally invented the 3 pointer because of him?" There are many sources you can check that will disprove that claim. Its origins date back to the 30's. Made famous by the ABA and the NBA adopted it only after it merged with the ABA. Yeah it's funny...
@son8of8vazkor Pete was offered 1 million dollars to play for the Harlem Globetrotters when he finished his college career but turned them down because he wanted to play in the NBA.
without a doubt he could play in the nba nowadays...man he was making all those crazy moves back when no one else could! i can't imagine what the guys he played against must have thought first seein' that madness!
It really is crazy the stuff he was doing more than a decade before the showtime Lakers, with no 3 point line and stricter rules about palming. This guy was unreal.
Look at the frenzy Lin is causing! If Pete came along today, then ESPN would start each show w/his highlights....but they would run out of time. LOL
