I am fourteen years old and I take ballet lessons. I LOVE ballet more than every art and I can do anything to be a ballerina. I know how hard it is to just make a plie. People don't really get that. They thought ballet is made of jumping around. Although I love ballet I would never let it take my chance to be happy from me. It would ruin my life. I can work hard to be a pro but I really care about my friends, my school and my other hobbies. Everything I can do has a limit. And that protects me.

the teachers are pretty strict, the teacher closer to the end is saying to a girl: see, you're stupid. stupid girls don't dance, only smart ones do. you can have numerous talents for lots of things, but if you dont have a brain it will all be useless.

oksana has literally no friends, and doesnt really make any effort to find any. although she really would like to have someone close.

she says its hard because her moods keep changin, but she has already made her choice so she has to work

im russian so here's a bit about what they say: basically they tell her that she has to gain some weight, because she keeps losing it theyre gonna put her into a hospital. she is 165 cm tall and 38 kilos, but when she eats more that usual she feels like she is a fat cow that is ruining her own future so she diets.

she has splinters on her toes that are rubbed off to meat, theyre always bloody and really hurt.

Well, I loved watching the Bolshoi and have immense respect for them and am amazed by them. I think the artist/athletes understand that proper nutrition is the only way to succeed, even at an amateur level...and if that old lady hit my kid or ran her down and made her cry, I'd kick the shit out of her. There is no such thing as negative motivation. They should have a pizza night every week-end. Ballet is about joy, too.

@jizzypuff No, she was told when she first came 'go on, lose some weight'. So she did. All of the other girls say they've tried to get her to eat because it 'looks disgusting'.

I looked up more about the movie, Oksana is 5'3'' and wieghs 81.4 lbs so 37 kilograms. And she doesn't get her periods either. Oh and one of the girls mentioned Maria Menshikova who insists on being called "Masha" is popular and Oksana is not. Apparently people are jealous of Oksana because she is skilled and has 'perfect' legs, including Maria. I'm guessing Maria and the other girls are anorexic as well.

@ballerinana11 I don't actually know but I'll guess it's the food given to them not the ballet itself, because elite ballerinas need muscle and therefore a healthy weight to perform the skills required of them, not skin and bones. Perhaps Perm does not see that, it would not be surprising.
