  • why cant america have a sweet v8 powered little car truck that is sick dude

  • @burnnc10454 you almost did... the Pontiac G8 was going to be released as a Sport Truck type thing like this based on our Holden VE Commodore Ute... but when Pontiac went down the drain so did the G8 and the Ute (little car truck) that was destined for the states... it's a real shame though because one would think it would have been a pretty good seller!!!

  • Hey man sounds awesome! Just bought a TK package from GMM for my VE SS ute. Goes in on Monday. Can't wait, if it sounds like this il be wrapped! Mines manual too!

  • @devo821 yeah mate it'll sound great :)... the TK in the L98 engine will go mental too, might make between 320 and 340kw at the treads. It was designed for the L98, putting it in the LS1 like I have isn't ideal, but it still works quite fine... the idle is tough and the top end rush is awesome too!!!

In this vid though the idle was a bit fat as the car was untuned with the stock HSV MAF tune in it... sounds a little different now, check out the featured vid on my channel for a listen!

  • sounds good but i heard that gm motorsport rip you off and rush your dyno

  • @carlnmike perhaps they do... but this camshaft was purchased second hand from a friend, all the other parts i wanted came out of the US, it was installed by myself and tuned by another tuner... so whatever GMM do is their business and i was not involved with them at all during this build...

  • hey dwayn, very impressive ute, just a couple of things did you upgrade your injectors at all? do you replace the cam bolts with HD ones when you put the TK in ?and did you put a new timing chain on?

  • @astro598 hi there... injectors are standard... when you say cam bolts, which ones do you mean? I have upgraded the connecting rod bolts to ARP items (because i rev it a little hard)... the timing chain is a double row rollmaster, but a quality single would do the job also... it also has double valve springs and upgraded rocker bearings.

you need to be able to check, and set, the cam timing... and you can't do that with the stock chain, plus it may not handle the extra load in the valve train...

  • what stall do you have in this?? I was looking at the Tk cam for my VX SS auto...

    cheers

  • @fatasdat it runs a 6000rpm 8" diameter converter built by "the converter shop" in queensland with no lock-up clutch... i love it, some wouldn't... there is another vid in my channel where you can see it cruising around the city...

something around 4000rpm would be nice though if you want it a little less over the top.

  • @dwaynE2099 6000rpm stall???

  • @sammerron Correct!... in a street car too... and it gets driven on the street a lot also... I've done some 20,000kms with said torque converter fitted... drives nice. I have a video on my channel somewhere that has a street driving clip of me just pottering around town with it, check it out!

  • @dwaynE2099 but... if your going up a hill or something wouldnt you have to be redlining it all the way or something to prevent it slipping?

  • @sammerron good question... but no is the simple answer... a 6000rpm stall in this case means that only under full load does it flash/flare to 6000rpm... on light throttle stuff, whist it does slip, it's actually quite good. you can drive around all day anywhere and never need to see north of 3000rpm if you're careful...

i do have another video in my channel of me driving around town if you want to check it out...

  • @dwaynE2099 yeah i watched that, looks very nice, im jealous i want one now

  • @sammerron it's for sale.. :)

  • @dwaynE2099 well im currently on my p's still and cant afford one. i wanna get a clubsport too

  • i take it ur not running cats?

  • @82PWD28 yeah mate... it's got a cat for each bank.... they're a 200cpi stainless substrate ballistic cat... only 2.5" in-out with a 5" body...

  • @dwaynE2099~ Screw auto's!..... waste of petrol and power.

  • @marek0086 nothing wrong with an auto mate... awesome in peak hour traffic, awesome on the drag strip...

  • @dwaynE2099~ manual ftw.

  • @marek0086 you just don't like auto's hey!!!

    11.602 @ 115mph off a 1.573 second sixty... auto's go ok...

11.1L/100km on the highway with an unlocked 6000rpm stall and massive cam... auto's go ok on fuel too...

15.2L/100km averaged over 4,000kms of weekend usage during the last 5 months... auto's go ok on fuel in town too...

next car may be a manual, but for now, i love this combo... you can't bag it till you've tried it.

  • @dwaynE2099~ ye... whats your point?.... youd get much better with a manual!

  • It's amazing how long you can sit here content as, listening to this thing Idle

  • @thwhah it's pretty good. very choppy when it's cold (as it was in this clip)... as it warms up it starts to tame down a bit... still very cranky compared to when it was stock though :)

  • That is a bangin hot car

  • @utubenz576 thanks very much :)

  • Well thats just fking great that is. NOW I gotta clean up my keyboard

  • @VEVeight haha thanks mate... it's got a cool sound...

  • Hey there sounds nice and tuff what other mods have you got done? auto manaul?

  • @ProphetHSV hey man...

auto, big 6k stall, 3.91's, full exhaust, OTR, just rod bolts, valve springs, push rods, lifters, oil pump, timing chain and rocker bearings in the engine... stock heads, stock comp, stock inlet...

currently running consistent 11.7's on Drag radials full weight... more in it yet...

  • whoa i just realised how much you were spitting out the back!!! go get it tuned! youre gonna be wasting so much fuel :S

  • Oh yes, that's water not fuel...

The car was very cold and had only just been started. The gauge hadn't even moved off the stopper yet. The ambient temperature on the day was only 11 degrees C in the morning (was about 10am)...

This car has a lot of water vapour and condensation coming from the tail pipes when it is idling cold. Once it is warmed up it stops coming out there...

The tune is currnetly in the works and progressing well :)

  • what are the angles for your valve timings?

  • Do you mean the LSA and ICL?

  • as in how many degrees on the cam gears is it set to? the amount for the opening and closing of intake and exhaust.

  • the cam specs @ 0.050" valve lift are 237* Intake, 242* Exhaust... Lift is a smidge over 0.600" on both...

The Adjustable crank gear it is on the +4 setting to give an Intake Center Line of 112*... (dialed in dot-to-dot at 116* so needed to be advanced 4 degrees to get the desired ICL)

the LSA i believe is 113* but i'll have to double check that...

  • Nice! Choppy as.

  • Sounds fkn amazing dwayne, good shit! 5*
