  • I recently purchased an iPod Touch and downloaded a Missile Command clone called Warheads that uses a rather logical approach to the controls. You simply touch the screen where you want the missile to explode and launches to that location. It is not like controlling the cursor by touch as in this review, but rather the aim-point is immediately set where you touch and a missile is launched from the nearest base to that point. It is actually a better control system than the original track-ball.

  • how much is a million yen in us dollars?

  • Man, I have it on my IPod and you would not believe how much it sucks!!! D:

  • garbige

  • Be fast and win iPad 2: goo.gl\8ONjl

  • Would you please review POD ODYSSEY - a new Swedish iPad game, with tilt controls? It's been featured by the US App Store, TouchArcade amongst others.

  • is that the only way to play it? Would be better to tap where you want to shoot. Touch gaming doesnt suck, it only sucks when you are using it to replicate physical controls.

  • Stupidly sucks

  • thing is that game the atari greatest hits collection was orininally a computer game. in fact i own a copy of it. and the games work great on the pc version. keep in mind that its only compbatible with xp so keep that in mind

  • The weird thing, Mark, is that it actually looks like you are using a real trackball. Maybe you simply have the nuances burned into your mind/muscle memory

  • @LanIost He mentions it getting sticky/smudgy as well. I don't see how a flat surface can effectively simulate a round ball.

  • i have a pad .

  • Speaking of bad iPad controls, have you tried playing Mortal Kombat 3 on the iPad? The controls are awful.

  • Well, the problem is that the motion and touch controls try to fix something that wasn't broken in the first place.

  • This is why touch gaming sucks.

  • oh my god you uploaded this on my birthday

  • I played the shit outta this on my 2600 as a kid! :)

  • Wouldn't it make more sense to press where you want the missile to go to instead of using a crap trackball that doesn't exist?

  • @jayofthe400 Yeah. But this doesn't press shoot, you move a simulated track ball via rubbing the circle on the screen.

  • I agree totally

  • luckally there's a new accessorie to go with Atari's Arcade Collection.

    It's called the iCade

  • Do a metal slug review. Pleese

  • Mark... You do know that a Million ten isn't really THAT much don't you?

  • @Pspgamer789 that was probbaly the joke...

  • i noticed you paused at tempest. do that next, loved that game. centipede was awesome too.

  • I remember I had an Atari Classics type game for Sega Genesis and missile command worked quite well even with the D-pad. It's much more sluggish, but that makes it feel like you're turning a giant missile launcher and have to get the bearing in time!

  • Terminator 2, Judgement day!

  • @IIIJFRIII That's what I thought as soon as I saw the thumbnail!

I'll go get some quarters I'll be back alright?

  • @VegemiteBalls LOLOL, John check it out some cop is scooping for you. Just go man.

  • @IIIJFRIII LOL, yes I was gonna say something about 'Terminator 2'. haha

  • o_0 Missle Command is ment to be played with a trackball.

  • I played snake on a CGR review!!!!!

  • Have you reviewed game room for Xbox 360? It's really similar, just better controls.

  • Controls aside, this is a neat little app. I have it on my iTouch and it let's me kill time with a game of Warlords.

  • this game makes me think of the galleria in terminator two

  • Touchscreen controls are fine, providing the game is built around them. It's not that you can't port button control, it's just that they work much better on a console. The same deal with playing point and click adventure games and real time strategy on a controller - it works, just not that well. I actually wouldn't mind seeing a tablet designed like the Wii U controller - you get the best of both worlds then.

  • Okay, here is what you do. Take an Atari 5200 controller, then place in near your iPad, then apply a good 3-4 layers of duct tape to hold it in place. And then before your very eyes, you now can control your iPad with an Atari 5200 controller!

  • Touch screen controls are only good for a few types of games; like tower defense, chop ninja, and puzzle games.

  • Touchscreen controls are fine for puzzle games and stuff like that. What i can recommend you is a bluetooth gamepad for your smartphone :) This way you can play your emulators with proper controls! I have the icontrolpad and im pretty happy with it.

  • Wow! When you'd rather use the 5200's controller, you're fucked!

  • Theres an arcade holder for the ipad,

  • Press 5 to hear: "the Atari greatest tits collection."

  • Atari greatest tits collection!? 1:06

  • i'd work on that controller issue if one million yen wasn't like two bucks

  • Looking forward a review of the iCade. I've heard this is compatible with this app.

  • i want a better phone :( (mine is sony ericson k750i xD)

  • reminds me off chuck.....

  • what the NDS did was great they added buttons but the touch screen was also good but the ipad/iphone only got touchscreen

  • its like terminator 2 ! :D

  • Tempest!! :D Great game to play whilst listening to Ride the Lightning.

  • I'm going to invent a touch screen device with a slide out gamepad like PSP Go, but with two slide pads, and a trackball built into the place where a home button normally goes on the ouside of the unit.

  • Mark, you're supposed to ply the Atari Collection with that $99.99 iCade arcade cabinet.

  • Iv got this on my iPhone 4 and the controls are indeed very bad due to touch screen!

Apple should bring there devises like the phone and pad with a slide out keyboard or some kinda game control

    Paul3100

  • they have an arcade thingy on think geek made just 4 the atarti app

  • Top 2 comments are from the same user!!!..

  • 1000 000 jen?id buy that for a dallar

  • @Tool0GT92 *BEFORE

  • @Tool0GT92 I've already been there w/ the iPad 1... WHEN APPLE ANNOUNCES THE FUCKING IPAD 2 A WEEK AFTER DESPITE NUMEROUS RUMOR DENIALS!!!

  • Turns out you can play it for free on their site, works well with a mouse.

Youtube won't let me post a link, so you'll have to find it yourself. Just google missle command.

  • million jen? isn't that like 20 cents?

  • @larrrrppa he said yen, and 1 million yen is a little more then 13 thousand dollars

  • Comment removed

  • Why didn't they just make the controls to fire the missiles to where you touch?

  • @Rider0fLightning That would make sense.

  • nahhh if your only giving me yen i wont do it,lets talk euro

  • Aahhh the iPad...If that isnt a middle finger to cosumers I dont know what is.

  • No?

  • i wish i had and ipad....

  • @MaZINGErDeSTro why?

  • @3628800258 cause all the best apps are for i-shop.I have android and its market sucks hard.

  • @MaZINGErDeSTro ipad is kinda stupid though, too big to have it with you all the time and too small for laptop use

  • @3628800258 Maybe but iphone*s price is awful.500-700euros for a mobile phone and still have to pay for most apps.Omg man.Ipad is also expensive but at least you can say you buy a laptop.Unfortunately i dont have the money for those thing and i doubt that if i had them i would spend them on them.Too expensive for a person that in his age can make 300-500euros per month.

  • @MaZINGErDeSTro yeah, i dont have an ipod/iphone/ipad either and it works too.. you better buy something more important with that money

  • @3628800258 like psvita? :P

  • @MaZINGErDeSTro hha xd the last portable console that i bought was a gameboy colour! xd

  • @3628800258 the last i portable i bought was game boy pocket.I have bought ps3 but thats not portable :P.

  • I got the icade and it works really good :)

  • Do a review for King of Fighters i

  • iCade! iCade! iCade!

  • i dont like touch screen controls either. theres this game i would buy except for the fact that the entire game is controlled with a touch screen. legend of zelda on DS.

  • Get the iCade.

  • LALALA

  • DO THEY HAVE SWORD QUEST AIR?

  • @MrMechaE I wasted so much of my weekends in front of my Nintendo trying to figure out the puzzles so that i could win the golden challice. Too bad Air was never realeased.

  • Personally, I think touch controls are awful, full stop! For years now I've stood by one simple thought: "What's wrong with buttons and joysticks?"

  • @Arwingpilot nothing is wrong with buttons and joysticks

  • @Arwingpilot nothings wrong with them-there just not as portable

  • @mastersirus1985

Not as portable?! I'd say the GBA SP and micro were some of the most portable systems out there and THAT only used buttons!

  • @Arwingpilot Yeah, I agree. I don't hate the idea of trying to improve on other control schemes, but as far as the iPad, DS, 3DS, etc, when has a touch screen actually made the game so much better? Or when have they made you never once think "This is good, but it would be better with the buttons"?

  • @drumsticks57

On an additional note, I have the same opinions with motion controls!

  • @Arwingpilot Well motion controls can work somewhat better. And at least they don't scratch/smudge up the screen.

  • @Arwingpilot a joystick will stab your crotch

  • @Arwingpilot again, the ds.

  • @Slash0mega That had buttons...

  • wheres the wonder swan crystal review??

  • 1:21 that was f***in' scary!

  • im with you Mark, i hate touch screen controlers are not perfect.

  • hmm both top rated comments are by the same person!

    HAAAX!...

  • < $1,000 for cross centenial technology.

    Thanks. ಠ_ಠ

  • Pick up the iCade

  • LOL Sword Quest Water World.

Yeah cause playing that without the manual is so fun....

  • touchscreen its not for gaming -.-

  • @RoyVash3

It is, but it also needs buttons and a dpad, like the DS, then it works great.

But touchscreen by itself with no buttons heavily limit what kind of games you can play right, and sadly the iPhone/iPad has MANY good games that are ruined by the lack of buttons and dpad.

It's why phones will never kill handheld consoles, never, no matter what "the industry" says.

  • @RoyVash3

    word

  • @RoyVash3

Only when done right for a game that works with touchscreen.

  • @RoyVash3

Strategy games are awesome on touch screen imo :P

  • @MrRallemulle yeah i can dig that but for most of games touchscreen does´nt work properly i mean fast games who really need buttons like plataforming fighting shooting etc

  • @RoyVash3

    Indeed! Platformers are okay though.

  • @RoyVash3 But the Nintendo DS has one touch screen, and we all love the DS.

  • @Aquarius199 no we dont

  • @Aquarius199 no

  • @RoyVash3 except for techno kitten adventure.

  • @RoyVash3 the ds pulls it off well.... if you where to tap to shoot a nanstalgaless game, it would have work.

  • Yes.

  • I saw missle command in terminator 2 XD XD OLD SCHOOL XD

  • Hey Mark or anyone have you tried to play a SNES game on a touch screen.... A Link to the Past will never be the same :(

  • Get an icade

  • I prefer the intellivision classics.

  • I love missile command, it's the game that got me into the 2600.

  • Grab a ball and cover it on ham

  • ooooo

  • pong used to be the free game....which i think i have to pay for now after i updated.

  • A million yen..? isn't that like 1,000 bucks? lol

  • @Ostnizdasht206 at the best,its like 10 bucks

  • There is no "49 way joystick" for iPad either ;-) ( Sinistar, etc!)

  • There was a missile command remake on iPhone where you could just tap to shoot missiles instead of imitating a trackball, and that game was MUCH better.

  • They should make a version of the ipad with direction buttons, ABCD buttons, and two analogue sticks. Then maybe it wouldn't suck so bad for games.

  • I guess the I-Cade is made specifically for the Atari iPad suite.

  • Qatar make that virtual ball into a real one nowww

  • We need a trackball. A VIRAL TRACKBALL.

  • Get the iCade! It will let you play this with arcade controls

  • REVIEW THEM ALL!!

  • Or best played on 3ds...

  • 2:47

    Challenge Accepted. XD

  • Dead Space 2 for ipad!

  • I bet VIRAL DOG could play this easily without a trackball.

  • This game would be great with a mouse and keyboard.

  • Played this using my X-Arcade Tankstick recently. Now THAT was awesome. Probably my favorite arcade game of all time.

  • @bedwalkers X-Arcade Tankstick? is that the one with the 2 arcade sticks and a trackball at the middle?

  • @maxxdblade

Yup. The one that Mark reviewed.

  • "atari 5200 track ball for ipad......thats a 1mil yen invention right there"....racism mark?.......

  • There is a much better version of Missile Command for the iPad sold separately.

It uses the touch screen to great effect; you touch the screen to fire a missile at where your finger is. It really works.

  • Buy an Icade it helps with the stupid touch controls.

  • now review bacon strips
