Hi go swim, I'm really glad you post all these drills on freestyle, as it helps me quite a bit, but can you, if you may post more videos on backstroke, breastroke, and butterfly? I'm a butterflyer in my team, but my stamina is kind of low... hahas, and I really like doing the IM but I suffer the most on breast stroke, and suffer on the backstroke.
Why would you not "want your shoulder popping up when you swim"? Seems like that is exactly the position your shoulder/arm needs to be in for the proper catch.
@pbettis11 - There are different types of "shoulder pop". Here, I'm trying to get people to avoid too much initial press down with a straight arm, which has a tendency of pushing, or popping the shoulder up in an unconnected way. This drill should encourage a more connected shoulder in the way that you're thinking, so I think it's just language at this point. The other shoulder pop would be during the recovery, making sure the shoulder is clear of the water to limit resistance.
