  • dubbing suck!!! why watch english when Germans speak German language not english..LOL

i allways like Original and i prefer subtitles.also i this movie is best compared to sucky U- 571

  • Best sub movie of all time

  • I'm sure some of these scenes aren't on my DVD :O

  • Wow, there are many translation mistakes in the subtitles.

  • Interesting, I have this movie on DVD (directors cut) and the english subtitles in this clip are a little different than on the DVD I have.

  • @swthair case in point, when he calls the guy a lunatic, the DVD I have actually says "asshole"

  • @swthair He actually calls him "blöde Sau" blöd meaning stupid and Sau is a german word for female swine. But I guess asshole comes the closest from all the english curse words. Although we have a seperate word for that too.

  • @swthair Same

  • @swthair i think its because they are subtitles of the english dub of the movie. and i have a feeling that the english dub changed words to (poorly) match the lips of the actor, rather than an accurate translation of the german speech

  • Over 30 freighters. In my country they translated it to "over 30 knots", they didn't even realiye, that submarine would never reach such a speed in those times.

  • Hitler's "Eagles Nest" further up the mountain from his "Bergoff" survived the war. It's called "Kehlsteinhaus" and is currently a restaurant. The back up generator there is powered by a U boat engine, it is still serviced and still runs to this day. There are vids of it on YouTube.

  • This movie is totally anti-war. Watch the "The Original Uncut Version"... In the original German of course.

  • @BudDickman I agree. For people who doesn't know about the versions, I'll mention, that the uncut version is considerable longer than the directors cut (about 90 min. longer). And the directors cut version is 20 min longer than the movie version.

  • Ah Deutsche Sprache is immer noch am geilsten :-)) Laderäume so gross wie ne Kirche ^^

  • mükemmel,tek kelimeyle mükemmel

  • Briskbrisk learn your history. You're completely off base. Churchill starting war ? Really?

  • The translation of "Blöde Sau" is creative xD

  • maybe the nazis start the war, but who killed the most people by bombs (look at Hamburg or Dresden)???

    the Englisch people did!!!

Hitler, Stalin, Churchill.... everyonhe who makes war is an idiot... Caesar and Napoleon, too!

  • @briskbrisk1 damn right

  • I love the background music

  • @aminoacid1648856

it is Das Boot Soundtrack 7 - "Konvoi"

  • What's up with the Nazi thing people? This is a movie about men under fire, just like Band of Brother, not some political bullshit. So shut up you guys.

  • @aminoacid1648856 Good words my man, this is just a masterpiece movie about the things you alredy said. Peace. And good movies! :)

  • Immer noch der beste WW2 U-Bootfilm.

Wenn man bedenkt, das die Amis den Film als "technisch undurchführbar" abgelehnt haben... Super gemacht.

  • the translation is crap

  • La MEJOR película de todos los tiempos. No hay nada mejor. Nunca se ha hecho nada tan fantástico.

  • This Diesel engine is a legend.

  • One of the most powerful war movies ever. I had tears in my eyes, when the u-boat sunk.

  • The Kriegsmarine was, quite possibly, the least nazi of the wehrmacht. Even though, the Wehrmacht wasn't really formed for the purpose of leading Nazi political ideology.

  • nice music...and scene! I feel it like preparing to go out to hunt girls!!!! ha,ha

  • It's my favourite submarine movie. It's all about men, their ship and their task. Not about politic or idealogical stuff. They just try to do their job and go back home safe. They have to fight for their country but don't want to die for Nazi stupid things. Most of the crewmen don't care of Nazi ideology.

  • @jerrymail what a nice comment for the german submarine ! Greatings from germany!

  • @cabrio379 german u-men,probably the bravest and most brilliant seamen of WW2,even when their chances of coming back were nearly zero, they still went out.

as for being nazis, obviously anyone who says that has never seen an interview with otto kreschtmer

  • Comment removed

  • @MrTrooper20 you got that right

  • Absolut einer der besten Antikriegsfilme die es gibt.

  • Alarmmmmmm!!!!!

  • They were burning red diesel! its duty free,i'm paying 1.40 a litre FFS

  • @bluejacketbugler

    It's a mix of oil and diesel !!! and u think its Duty free? : -) : -)

    good joke dude

  • NOT YET KAMARADEN NOT YET

  • They are not fighting for Hitler, they are fighting for what is left of Germany and German people, stupid Americans shut up

  • "Das schafft was weg, was!?"

    "Blöde Sau."

  • This Jewish thing is getting ridiculous.

We get it. Nazis were bad. But I didn't seem to notice the Captain going around saying:

Yeah, let's abuse and/or mass murder some Jews or blacks or Slavs or homosexuals or whatever.

It didn't need any Nazi bullshit. The beauty of it was that these guys were Germans, not Nazis.

  • If you never saw the movie try to get one in german with your subtitles. Otherwise the feeling is not authentic. BTW the Diesel engine is a complete beauty...0:14

  • Terrible Captions.

  • Hey does anyone know the name of the song in this video

  • @Scottymushrooms

I've got the orig. soundtrack CD produced by Klaus Doldinger. The song you searched for is called "Konvoi". Soundtrack is still available at amazon

  • @Scottymushrooms As far as I know it's composed for this movie and this track is called "On the hunt."

  • @Kaarlo It's actually track number 7, "Konvoi".

  • @Zappiss Then we have different soundtracks... but I believe you.

  • 0.16- it ´s my orgasmus...

  • The captioning is kind of free and sometimes made up outright

  • Good stuff, Royal Navy. And Kriegsmarine.

  • Hehe, the subtitles are a bit less slang speech than in german *G*

  • Thousands of u-boot soldiers lying on the seabed, Rest in Peace Soldiers!

  • our german heroes in north atlantic-god bless you boys.r.i.p.

  • one off my favorite film..

Love the way in the start where the u boot comes up from the water and joining the attack off the convoy and the music is soo good choice

  • VII C for all seas!

  • The subtitles shows things, which weren't spoken by the actors ^^

  • the subtitles are mostly not bad, theyre just wrong...

  • This is the movie that made me want to join the navy.

  • seen it about 20 times, read the book twice, and got the normal version, the directors cut and the short series

  • One of the best WWII movies ever. If you watch the movie, you'll find out is not about glorifying nazism.

  • @cmsahe nazism ??? how glorify nazism in a submarine? is submarine built in arian conditions? stop kiddin.who was a nazi? a skilled soldier with tradition? better a looser that was picked up from hitler in street fights in the 20´s.

on submarines there was no place for kidding"are we natsi?yes we are natsi so lets kill jewish whales".the rank of an officer became less important by time, only natural leadrship could keep discipline etc. wake up.

  • @cmsahe i think so too !!!!

  • @cmsahe the movie is not about politics at all

  • @cmsahe i totally agree with you, both sides england and germany had u boats, but we have only seen it from the side of the germans what an eye opener

  • Good Chief Engineer! But not as good as me

  • He doesn't say "Lunatic" ;)

    He says "stupid pig!"

  • Of all the background music in this film this is my favorite. I like how the score for this scene interweaves the elements suggesting the anticipation of the hunt, the throbbing of the diesels and the crash of the waves.

  • sauwetter !

  • I love this film over 30 years, and it is nice that so many actors stars in germany, with right!

Herbert Grönemeyer the war correspondent for example is a great musik artist .

    Look at "Mensch" Herbert Grönemeyer.

  • These english subtiles make me laugh. Who the fuck translated this?!

  • Jaa ^^ Das waren noch zeiten!!

  • i has to be the german version

  • Wahrschau, dont look out, shit translate

  • He yells "Warschau" which is German seamen´s talk for "LOOK OUT!", so the translation is correct...

  • @NKA23

Stimmt, ich war selber 4 Jahre bei der deutschen Bundesmarine, da sagt man noch immer Warschau! Das ist halt Marinejargon!

  • Blöde Sau :)

  • the best version is when its german with english subs,, fcuk watching a german film with english dub,, it sounds shite

  • it must be hard to watch for none german speaking ppl.... but i guess the actors did a english voice over ...didnt they ?. For me as a german... it's one of the best movies. Great Actors ! And there is a TV Version of it thats almost 6 hours long. Classic... love it

  • @CivilianInRange I did read someplace that the actors did dub themselves into English, with a couple like the Second Officer and Prachnow it's quite noticeable. Others sound like they've been dubbed by someone else :)

  • @CivilianInRange my german is highly limited but i would never consider watching it in english. and people who know no german whats so ever i tell them to watch in German.

  • @Foxtrot262 why do you think the german version is better to watch?

  • @teooli Your from Germany and ur asking me ? lol Firstly that was the language of the Kriegsmarine lol it makes it more authentic. Most important the sheer emotion and feelings are so much stronger in the German version the really brings the movie full circle. When its in English its painful to watched it dubbed.

I find your just missing an element if you don't watch it in German. This movie for me is like your actually there feeling what they feel, in English u dont get that

  • @Foxtrot262 Do you understand german so good, that you feel the different?

  • @cabrio379 I use subtitles my German is not great, Ive seem some scenes in english and such and yes I feel the difference watching in German oppossed to English

  • Made in Germany NOT COPIED BY CHINA !!!! :)

  • Awesome movie, though the ending was very sad.

They really need to do a World War 1 U-Boat movie- the first world war doesn't get covered as much.

  • 1:42 What's the point of opening the flash cocks while the engine is running?

  • @gschjetne I do believe it is to clean built up particulates from dirty naval fuel

  • @Justinak74 That's what you do before starting, blowing the dirt out with compressed air.

  • @gschjetne It's to check if the combustion is working properly.

  • those submarines never followed modern techologie... british easily spotted them and sunk them with aeroplane support.. and breaking german codes u boats became past..

  • dünya alman ın taşağını yesin

  • no yankee propaganda

  • The best U-boat movie ever made in Historie, the BEST of the BEST.

  • the subtitles are added by?

they are kinda... weird and sometimes wrong.

  • @JheakrynaKyAlur You can never translate a movie 100 precent perfect, all languages got different grammar that means different things and that sounds weird in the translation, so they try their best :D

  • Was it smart for the germans to help the russian bastards build the S-class submarines.

What many people don"t know is that most loss of life in the naval warfare was suffered at the Baltic Sea. Not at Atlantic-.

Kriegsmarine never targeted civilians like the allied navies and planes did at the Baltic sea.

  • @ss90ss444 SS, you are quite wrong in your statement that the majority of life loss was in the Baltic Sea. During the years 1942-May 1943 (the highest volume of tonnage loss for the Allies to U-Boats) almost all of the losses were either located on the East coast of the U.S. or in the North Atlantic between Great Britain and Canada.

  • @manjusauce

I did not mean how many tons were lost. What I meant was the number of human casualties.

My country who Ingenieurskantoor voor Scheepsbouw asked to build some of the prototypes of these U-boats was forbidden to use submarines after the war according to the Paris peace treaty of 1947.

Anglos also bullied us when we build those MIR submersibles to the russians. Fuck I wish Hitler had won.

  • In gedenken an Klaus Wennemann einem hervorragenden Schauspieler.

  • @oldielover2502 ist "der fahnder" tot?

  • @salamander162A : Jepp, scho mindestens 10 Jahre...

  • and they have hope again, back on the hunt. now are they the hunters again! you can see it in their faces, finnaly a convoy! finnaly we can do where we came for, now its our turn! and yet their hope and happines is a bit spoiled again by the weather

  • seeing that running engine gives me goosebumps.

  • Yes. They sure got to build the very first prototypes of these U-boats here in my country since Treaty of Versailles banned them of building submarines.

Fuckers than back stabbed us in 1939. But I have no hard feeling towards the krauts but the russians and brits can kiss my ass.

  • Those who tell the stories rule society.

  • I smell pigs on this forum, and anyone with a brain and some knowledge about WWII history. Knows that most members within the Kriegsmarine and especially the U-Boat crews despised Hitler and the Nazis.

(Which is also hinted and shown several times in this film)

  • Wish the Germans had nukes, they would've kicked English ass. Truly a superior race.

  • @eric5906

    Not really

  • @eric5906 ... As evident of their failiure in 2 World Wars, lol!

"Well if conditions were perfect, the superior race WOULD be superior"

"Apparantly they weren't superior enough to adapt to the situation at hand and win the goddamn wa-"

    "Shut up you Bolshevik-Jew!"

  • @OnkelMickwald

Canada and USA saved Britain in WW1 so no point trying to brag about that britfag. Only Chamberlain was so stupid to let Germany freely build ships and rearm without doing anything to stop it.

Not to mention giving up the Royal Navy bases at Ireland. Only in England!

  • @ss90ss444

I'm not British, I'm Swedish (So apparantly I'm part of this "Aryan masterrace", but somehow still not...), and the aim of my comment was not to heighten the British in more glory than anyone else. In fact, I don't know how you even got it that way, since I didn't even mention Britain in my comment.

I was just mocking the way that those few nazis who are left think.

  • @ss90ss444

I understand that you are bitter at the Allies during ww2, but no one has ever claimed that they were angels. They did what had to be done to achieve victory, and that included sacrificing some of Finlands sovereign rights to appease Soviet so that a victory could be ensured in Western Europe.

Indeed, I've never understood those who sympathize with the Nazis because of the Allied atrocities. They didn't lead an ideology based on the extermination of certain ethnicities...

  • ".....hoffentlich pustn´wa ein paar Aale raus - damit hier Platz wird.....!!!!"

    :-)

  • german films rocks

    deutschland

  • Red diesel near the end of the clip. A guy in my street used to put that in his Renault until he eventually got torpedoed by the police. Wonderful film, Das Boot. Remember Johann the Ghost cracking under the strain when he thought they were all going to drown ? Who wouldn't ? Not including my ex wife's second husband of course. That amazing bastard must be able to stand any amount of pressure.

  • @Cluebert I agree good idea.

  • The best naval movie ever.

  • Best war movie by a mile, no other movie has ever captured it's poise and suspense ( hollywood movies are shit)

  • @Watain666

I'd say Letters from iwo Jima is another war movie that deserves a mention. Ironically the two war movies I consider best are from the Axis Perspective.

  • Sauwetter!

  • nice film!*

  • Absolute classic!

  • Read the book.

  • 40,000 of these BRAVE men went to sea. 30,000 never came back. Please don't condem them!

  • is this movie worth 2 buy?

  • Absolutely...without a doubt this is one of the finest, most thrilling and emotionally involving war movies ever made.

Watch it in German with english subtitles.

  • Comment removed

  • Germanys biggest mistake was spending all the money building ships like the bismarck when they should have been building u boats. They could have starved britain into surrender.

  • Germany's biggest mistakes were that we joined WWI and started WWII at all.

Ironically without these two wars, half the world might be talking German today, as Germany was technologically and scientifically the most advanced nation on earth BEFORE WWI.

After two devastating wars in less than 50years, this position was taken by the US.

What looked like becoming the "German century" in 1900-1910 became the "USAmerican century".

  • @NKA23

  • If i ever wanted to join the navy its because of this movie!!!

  • Well, you have misunderstood this movie in that case...

  • excellent music. great flick. very realistic I have seen.

  • Jurgen Prochnow was HOT in this movie.

  • OS NAVIOS BRASILEIROS SOFRERAM TAMBEM ATACKS

  • das boot :D

  • I love the cheesy english subtitles. The captain swears several times in the film and the English subtitles are "Oh No!". And that engineer in this clip did NOT say 'Lunatic' :)

  • @Danny77uk

What the engineer said was rather like "motherfucker or stupid asshole". The german subtitles are poor, yes.

  • He said "blöde Sau", which literally means "stupid sow", but maybe "dickhead" would be a good translation.

  • @NKA23

  • @Danny77uk Although the English subtitles are hilariously full of errors, a friend warned me to NOT watch the English dubbed version because it's even worse! I took his advice and rented the subtitled version. One of the best WWII movies ever!

  • @Danny77uk My favourite is "Scheisser Aller" which is Shitty Eels I believe?

  • @Danny77uk "Blöde Sau" :D

  • it's a long way... dadada..... :-)

  • Epic movie, dont get much better than Das Boot

  • @Fockersnextdoor Agree! Some great movies from Germany!

  • Real heroes in fucked up times !

  • @eyederrick no I disagree, real german heroes were the very few percent of people who tried to kill hitler, go watch Valkyrie. or men like Oscar Schindler. These men while dedicated, were STUPID because they followed their evil leaders and lacked the wisdom and courage to stand against NAZIsm (National Socialists)

  • @Hiuf425ff3425

    Genau...

Du hast ja auch voll die Ahnung von deutscher Geschichte!!!

    Klappskalli...

  • @Hiuf425ff3425 watch the entire movie and you might think otherwise, these guys here arent dedicated to hitler, they know that if they stand up they get shot. now they couldnt even get near hitler so i dont get your point. they got themselves fucked up in a iron casket in the middle of nowhere hoping that they will survive the bloody war. fighting for their country, on the wrong side or not they deserve some honor. and they were heroes. for their country they were. and we must respect that.

  • @Hiuf425ff3425 Yes stupid...like you! You think Hitler always walkd around in the public and now you wonder why the usual people didn´t try to kill him?? Sometimes it´s better to think before you write NERD

  • @Hiuf425ff3425 MY goodness you really have no idea what it would be like to live in a time like this. Stalin killed more innocent ppl then Hitler did. So does that make everyone who put on a Russian uniform an idiot and a criminal ??? They did not put on a German uniform for Hitler, theres much more too it. Your looking at this all in hindsight.

Also regardless you will always pick the side to defend your family if they are in danger.

  • @Foxtrot262 i agree with you but you forgot the 5 million jews hitler killed, stalin didnt do that.

  • @goreziad No, but he killed several million of his own people for political reasons. Is that better?

  • @FrLawRE didnt say anything about better? just pointed out the 5 million jews.

  • @goreziad Why did you point it out ? Had nothing to do with the statement, I'm fully aware of who did what.

  • @Foxtrot262 Oh, how you like to comperess Stalin with Hitler, you bastard. How you like rewriting history, in one moment we were winners of WW2, a now we are same bad as nazis. Fcuk you man, we beat Hitler and one day we will show you west nazis your place. Russians are very patient, but we wont let you humiliate our history and our victory.

  • @jur4ik269

One common misconception, is that Russia is invincible...

  • @jur4ik269 your victory will never excuse your evil and inhumane leaders. the were monsters and murderers just like the nazis.

  • @Foxtrot262 Not to mention the U-Boot corps were the least "nazified" branch of the Reich.
