hey yankee 1830 thank you so much for the great news about one of my favs. I was sure I read about him but I am so happy for the god good news thanks 4 posting
As the youngest sibling of eight I grew up with these sounds & I still love it and he was so clever, what a sound Ray made so thank you 4 posting...we miss you Ray Stevens RIP
@hipadubreymccready: Ray Stevens is still among the living. He's 72 and still active. He'll be in Biloxi, Mississippi this coming Saturday night at the Imperial Palace. His recent releases have been political commentary from a conservative point of view. His latest is called "Mr. President - Mr. President". You can find it on You Tube along with his other politically driven songs. He did a song about the TSA earlier this year called "The Skies Just Ain't Friendly Anymore".
@MrRickycurry: It's amazing what a beard can do! You go from unrecognizable to familiar looking. If you've seen the "Misty" upload from NevadaDesertWind it shows Ray with a thick beard. That particular performance is from 1975...this performance is from 1977.
@dinaschell: "Bagpipes, That's My Bag" can be purchased for only 99 cents at Amazon's Mp3 store. It's from his 1969 GITARZAN album. If you look the album up you'll see the option to buy the Mp3 and it'll automatically download to your computer provided that you're a member of Amazon and have an account with them.
I used to have the 45. It was from his first Warner Brothers LP, Just For The Record. It got a reissue on the Do You Wanna Dance CD. I wonder how well he can play the guitar. We now know he can play a plunger too!
@orangehornet57: On a 1991 episode of NASHVILLE NOW that he guest hosted for Ralph Emery he sang "You Gotta Have a Hat" and he played the guitar during the performance. Larry Sasser, a steel guitar player on the show, was interviewed by Ray on that episode. Larry joked and said that Ray only knew two chords on the guitar...and I'm not aware of any time where Ray seriously played a guitar. He uses it as a prop on "Gitarzan", obviously. The piano family of instruments are Ray's specialty.
@Lupton2000: Speaking of "Misty", there is an upload of Ray singing that song on another episode of POP GOES THE COUNTRY. Ray has his beard, though. It's still a great performance in my own biased opinion. I cant pinpoint when that episode was taped, though. I want to say 1978/1979 but it could be the early 1980's at some point.
To update my earlier post...the upload of "Misty" that appears on You Tube from POP GOES THE COUNTRY is actually from 1975! The beard had fooled me but I've since seen the entire episode and it's from 1975. In addition to "Misty" he also sang "Indian Love Call" and "Twilight Time". The latter song must have been something under consideration for the MISTY album or it was a song that Ray wanted to perform just as an exclusive to the show.
@Lupton2000: I also used to always want to see old clips of Ray when he was clean-shaven because I was raised on the way he appears now. It's like two different people...you put a beard on Ray, for example, in the 1970's and he looks much older. There's a 1975 album called "The Very Best of Ray Stevens" where bearded Ray appears on the cover in a leather jacket, leaning up against a tree. It's like, as I said, two different people even though it's the same singer.
thanks for uploading this!!! this is a 1977 performance and I saw it a few weeks ago but I know several people don't have the channel that it aired and so they'll be able to see it now.
Will you be uploading the interview where Ralph and Ray talk about the chicken recordings of the Henhouse Five Plus Too?
@ACcountryFan Didn't Ray put on a chicken mask during the interview with Ralph? I think I remember seeing this when it was rerun in January 1985. The day before, Crook and Chase showed a 1976 clip of Ray Stevens singing Misty from the Jerry Reed special.
@Lupton2000: Yes...Ray wore a chicken mask and did a little bit of a performance he'd end up doing in 1985 called "Thus Cacked Henrietta". Ray spoke about doing more Chicken clucking performances but also said that he may not do any more. Ray also sang "Feel the Music" toward the end of the show. RFD-TV recently aired the rerun...that's why it's so fresh in my mind.

Love this video of Ray Stevens without his beard. I would love to see more of these videos of him without his beard.
