"...He asked of it to be something of worth, he woke from his dreams, scraped the soil from the spaces inside himself, he made you, and was happy, you make the lord happy, come into this, come closer"
I JUST SAW THIS LIVE HE WAS RECITING IT FOR A MOVIE THAT THEY WERE FILMING WE TOTALLY HAD A MOMENT WHILE HE WAS DOING IT AND I SAW A BEAR IN THE BED OF A PICKUP TRUCK ON THE WAY HOME
its so weird how anytime i listen to any of his poetry, no matter how many times, i always become so enticed and wrapped up in it that my heart starts to beat faster. this is true poetic genius.
Only discovered Anis this week by being subscribed to this channel. I am so glad I watched this video. Undoubtedly my favourite piece of poetry, maybe my favourite piece of writing of any kind. His words as so beautiful and pure. His performance is stunning, immaculate.
I was initially introduce to this gentlemen through the way of his "Shake the dust video" and I too agree there is something captivating about him. I think it's his way of opening realization that there is captivation in us all. Great stuff, would love to see him live. Come to Cali wont you?
This guy is inspiring, captivating, hypnotic, eccentric, amazing, intriguing, love, full of wisdom. He is beautiful. "You are quite the view, if no one has ever told you that before know that right now, you are quite the view. There is joy in how your mouth dances with your teeth, yoursmile is a sign of how sacred your life actually is. Come into it, come closer... Know that something softer than us but just as holy, planted a piece of himself into our feet."
Really quite good, but I'm not overly impressed. This kind of thing is a really common tactic at christian conventions (almost identically performed), and probably all religious conventions.
@MyCommentsRMaturelol Hm, I can see your point, although the religious connotations you are commenting on, to me, represent the essence of spirituality. Yes, he mentions a God but doesn't specify, he even goes on to "God prays to He asked it to help Him make something of worth." This creates endless stimulation for my imagination. The possibility of something bigger than this thing called "God" whatever you may perceive that to be? Some lovely food for thought.
@getbackl0retta Surely, the words resonate with my own Hedonistic, physical beliefs. I'm just so damn jaded with this sort of thing. At the aforementioned conventions, they try to induce the same sort of atmosphere of freedom and hope, but the things they speak about aren't accurate representations of their beliefs. Here the words match more closely with the feeling, but the feeling itself is still lost on me, and that's what this is really all about. It's no great philosophical manifesto.
The "church" he mentions at the end of the poem, "birthed of blood and muscle" is in reference to your body. Your own sacred body that holds "into this thing love thing called life," this life he is inviting you into so you can truly live and live fearlessly, something most people don't do... so come closer. This again is just my interpretation based on my own background and influences. Of course, these interpretations are guaranteed to vary through different viewers and their own perceptions.
@akatheeggman Hey, I don't know how to tell you this, but the music is actually part of his poem. That's not something that's been added in, that's how it is performed. So calm down, take a deep breath or two, and come into this video.
Wow! I've watched/listened to this 3 times in a row and it is beautiful and powerful beyond anything my words can describe. I see comments concerning his religion, but what he says transcends religion. Religion talks about this thing called "god" but Anis' words reveal God. I've never been drawn to poetry, but the beauty of Anis' art has converted me. Thanks, speakeasynyc, for posting this video.

he's absolutely beautiful. his words are unreal, and the way he speaks force them under my skin. i find myself in awe when i watch him. i cant blink or speak and i'm careful not even to breathe too harshly. completely unreal. its blows my mind that someone could even have the ability to arrange words in the way he does.
@speakeasynyc I hadn't heard of this religion before, so thank you for mentioning it. Just spent a good 2 hours learning about it. Very interesting stuff. I considered myself familiar with Iran so I was surprised to hear it's the leading religious minority in that country.
