The secret of a Great lobster roll is very little filler. Lobster meat and not much else. In the Midwest you have to pay $20 for a lobster roll, much more than you'd have to shell out in New England.
We included a stop at Reds Eats on our vacation. The lobster rolls are outstanding! They cost about $14.00. If you have room get the zucchini planks also (Mmm!). Wiscasset is a little out of the way but it is well worth the stop. We met Reds daughter and she is just as charming in person as she is on the show. If you get lobster rolls elsewhere make sure they are all lobster meat and not lobster salad.
I bought it about 5 years ago after seeing it on PBS and watch it at least 2x a year. We've hit up NYC, Boston, Philly, St. Louis and New Orleans specifically to hit up the places featured on the documentary. Probably will head up to Buffalo and Maine this summer. =)
How much are lobster rolls anyways I am from the west coast so I havent really had a lobster roll in a long long time and I want to convince my family to take us to Maine for a trip someday
It all varies on where you get it. Most of the time it's market price. RIght now, going price for a chix lobster is $9.99 (that's away from Maine, if you're in Maine the lobster market crashed and it's a lot cheaper now, last that I checked)
Last Christmas, my boyfriend and I made a trip to New Orleans specifically to eat at Domilese's and Central Market as featured in this documentary. Dot was there and a sweetheart. And the shrimp and sausage po'boys we had were fantastic. We just went up to Boston last weekend to have Sepal's falafel (now at MIT campus) and Kelly's roast beef. Awesome documentary. Love it!
Peace, Al, is right. Red's Eats is a must do if you ever find yourself on the Maine Coast. It's well worth the trip and the wait. My favorite food joint of all time. Will miss you, Al. Will be back to Red's again and again.
I am drooling now.

I loved this.
People don't go to fast food crap.
They find local places that make their favorites and stick to it.
Used to love this place that made "Atomic Subs"

Born and raised in NOLA... and I've been to (and LOVE) Red's Eats in Wiscasset but have yet to try the po-boy place in my home city lol.

This clip doesn't show the charm of the hour long original.
If you get a chance to tivo it or buy it -
One of the best documentaries around.
Can't recommend it highly enough.
It goes coast to coast basically eating meat
And Philly is a riot.
