The information itself is still running at electric speed -_- we need transistors and processors that operate WITH light and not electricity. Imagine a computer that can process billions and billions of Exabytes a second making every single process instantaneous to us. This is not it, this is a simple conversion of data running at the speed of electricity to a light medium, so it can travel long distances without any delay, still nonetheless processing at electric speed. Thumbs up if you agree.
wow I knew about information encoded into light but I never thought that you could encode different streams into colors and send them on a single wire (because of course light doesn't interfere with itself), and then single them out with prisms or stuff. Really awesome stuff!!
Its a complete set of functional components allowing compact and dense integration and it is not the future its happening now, erbium or fesio2 doped silicon light emitters on the other hand are.
in the future everything will be opticle, but i'm curious what will power these devices? electrical circuits use electricity, what will opticle circuits use?
Why they have to put a robotic female voice? xDDDD

What is the difference between intel's hybrid silicon laser and Infinera's PIC?

i thought this was an optical ic!

It is a photonic ic for networks. Capacity = 100 Gigabits/second.
