If people still don't know what the red dot represents, then America should put more money into more Art Education....Sorry I forgot we dont have any money.
Oh my goid, righ now i just 35 years old, when this commercial came to my country 1982 i just 7 years old this is very special to me i don't know to say i just remeber being a kid againg sorry i 'm very sentimental.
I just can't get enough of these Betty Davis/7-up ads. I've downloaded a whole montage of them! Something ain't right, in my head, man. I mean, first I make negative comment, then I do this...this...360!
I think she's rollin' us like we're dice, man. 7-up makes you feel bloated. And, if you drink way too much of it, 7-up makes it hurt after you go to the bathroom. Believe me, if you were stranded in the desert, you would want water, not 7-up.
Holy crap!! I love 7-Up & Pac-Man. Put them together and this is one mind blowing commercial. I was only 4 when this was out, so I don't remember it.
I wonder if Namco (or perhaps Midway since they sold the game in the U.S.) ever made a 7-Up Pac-Man arcade game. Gottlieb made a very rare Mello Yello version of Q*Bert that shows Q*Bert drinking Mello Yello on the title screen.
I remember when I was younger putting a can of 7up on top of the pac man machine at an amusement arcade to see if the graphics changed like in this vid.
7 UP's commercials were always the most advanced. Their use of cutting edge graphics and pop cultural references made their ads some of the most memorable. Their use of Bette Davis Eyes is a great example of this.
I think that was before they turned the spot in the 7-Up logo into the actual Spot character, right? I don't remember the spot having the sunglasses & becoming Spot until later on in the 80's. So this Pac-Man could have been a pre-cursor to Spot where they used the red spot from the logo & turned it into Pac-Man. Then someone could have gotten an idea to make 7-Up's own anthropomorphic character utilizing the red spot, which is how Spot could have been born. Just a guess.
I thought the same thing. And Pac-Man Plus had a soda can as 1 of those items that Pac-Man can eat. But the soda can looked like a red Coke can with that stripe going down. I really wonder if there's an ultra-rare 7-Up version of Pac-Man Plus. There was a Mello Yello version of Q*Bert (also from 1982), so why not a 7-Up version of Pac-Man (or Pac-Man Plus)? Maybe there was a prototype 7-Up version of Pac-Man that evolved into Pac-Man Plus (like how Crazy Otto became Ms. Pac-Man).
Strange enough, I was playing Pacman on Mame, and I drank some 7up after I saw this, and I actually got through 14 levels before dieing on level 15. That's something!
I'm drinking a 7 up right now! They have the small bottles you know the ones at the vending machine 20 FL OZ. They are in the sliding door things near the counter where you pay for your stuff. A dollar each! I picked up 5 of em. 3 for me now and 2 for this sleepover I'm going to tonight. 7 UP AND PAC-MAN 4 EVA
2. I've been listening to "bette davis eyes" for three days straight and still can't get past the sixth level. This ad distorts the actual relationship between early-80s soft rock and 8-bit gaming performance. I'm going play lawn darts.
I agree, the graphics actually don't look anywhere near as bad as I expected! Holds up alright for 25 years old. I'm 35 so 1982 was the height of my video game career. Got my 2600 that year. Always hated Pac-Man, the game was always just a real pain in the ass to me. Still is if I go back and play it again. Pitfall, now that was a cool game (for the time).
I'm only 31 and I really wasn't able to enjoy the 80's like someone in their 40's, but I'm glad I was able to cherish what the 80's had to offer. Long live the 80's!

This video is from 1982, I remember it as a child and it is still viable today. The choice of pop single was very astute and Kim Carnes' track lives on with words changed [Betty davis eyes]. I am really pleased this video is here and I salute the person who put it here and recognised its value.
