I take one scoop per day with a glass of water and I haven't had even the slightest hint of gout since. The alkaline neutralizes the acid that causes gout. It also helps with everything else. I was recently diagnosed with this. I can definitely relate to the swelling and pain in the ankle and toes. There are some days I cannot walk at all.
One theory is that the drugs they give you during surgery are incredibly acidifying to the body, and this is what makes it possible to get gout. You are not the first person I've heard about who gets gout as a result of surgery. If your diet is spot on then this might just be a temporary thing until the body recovers from the effects of the surgery. Good luck with it.

I have had gout for years, and tried just about everything without success.I reduced meat to, minimum once
a week, stopped alcohol altogether.I was having LOTS of fruit and vegetables and my gout was worsening.
Finally I have read something about Excessive fructose increasing uric acid.I experimented reducing my fruit
intake to 2 a day, and bingo within days I saw a dramatic improvement
