Unplugging TVs and electronics doesn't do jack s**t to prevent fires. Most electrical fires are caused by defective electrical equipment hardwired into the home, heaters and ovens. If high end electronics are candidates for spontaneous electrical fires, then they wouldn't be on the market, and in peoples home.

I love all these crazy safety films.

It's a window into what was percieved as being a "risk" back in those days. You also get to see where they've clearly been successful as you have a "wtf" moment at how obvious something is. (like seatbelts) But clearly not obvious at the time.
