Shawn, I thought I have viewed all your videos, I dont no how I missed this one. I was led to believe the top half should stay behind the ball in a proper release, but it never did feel right. On the topic of moving the head, have you been watching the Haney Project? What would you suggest if you were coaching Charles?
Right out of the gate; I would have him master the feet together drill and the one leg drill in combination with the perpetual motion drill; you can't swing back and through without balance and Charles Barkley's balance and flow are the #1 and #2 issues; everything would then start to smooth out; Shawn
My swing has improved immensely since I focus on the ball until my shoulder pulls my head up and out. I can understand how many of us can it wrong when it comes to what the head does, because you want the momentum to carry through the ball (hence head slides) or my head is the central pivot point everything swings around it (don't move it) ? Do you think I am on the right track by focussing on the ball until its gone and let the shoulder pull it up?
Hey grubstewart! The eyes stay on the ball and the focus should be to allow the arms to swing (from the shoulder sockets down to the club head) around and under the top portion of the axis which is the head; you will feel the left shoulder glide around and under the chin on the backswing and then the same shoulder will move away from the chin and up on the downswing and follow through.
You definitely want to maintain a feeling of center...see my "feet together drill" to get a good feel!
Really interesting topic that can be so confusing to so many. I am glad you made a part 2 because you really hit the nail on the head when you explain how the right shoulder pulls the head up and out of the shot. For a long time my head would slide laterally on the downswing and led to all those problems you mentioned. It wasn't until in another video you mentioned the head is like the top of a kiddies swing set that the penny dropped. The head is the central pivot point.
Hey shawn...I'm a new beginning golfer and I took a couple of lessons but I still can't seem to "hit" the ball! Is this common with new golfers? Which one of your videos should I watch first? Do you offer online training? Getiing very frustrated at this point...ready to just throw in the towel.
The more you try to manipulate the club to hit the ball, the worse things will get! Imagine trying to hit a ball with a stone on a string; you twirl the stone around your hand and give it to gravity and let centrifugal force track it; then you simply walk into the ball and let gravity hit it; you control gravity and it controls the club...watch my "swing plane" and "contact and spin" videos to start; they are on my "you tube Shawn" page of my website.
Wow,what an exposure, this video tips has proven so many ppl wrong in the world of, correct your mate golf swing.Thank you Shawn,if only your golf academy is here in Singapore, i'll definitely be your no.1 student.
Shawn, I recently stmbled across your instruction videos and I feel they are the best, I have come across in person or online. Thanks for all the hard work of putting these lessons and sharing them.
Yep, that was it. The old nugget is prevent me from completing my finish. Once again, Shawn, thank you for your time and consideration for all the hard work that you do.
Shawn, that's a great innovative tip that goes against traditional notions of head position in swing mechanics, which sets the purpose of the head in place - no pun intended. =)
