In any other western country, if 667 policemen were being killed a year you would declare a state of emergency - not in SA though. Police are basically sent to war everytime they punch-in at work. However, they are armed with weaker weapons,armour and back up. It's a sad state of affairs so sadly many officers need to assume people are armed.

So, lead by example. Join the SAPS as a reservist. Make a difference. On average 1.83 South African Policemen are killed a day. If you are brave enough, you have the credibility to comment on this topic. You can not even imagine the stress these people are under everyday. Everyday you go to work, 2 of your buddies in blue had died the night before. You earn R50,000 a year ($7000 US) and your bullet proof vest can only block PISTOL bullets and still risk your life for the people who hate you.

In South Africa you have no idea who is carrying a gun and who isn't. In South Africa it's easier to arm yourself than buy food at your local supermarket. In any other western country, if 667 policemen were being killed a year you would declare a state of emergency - not in SA though. Police are basically sent to war everytime they punch-in at work. However, they are armed with weaker weapons,armour and back up. It's a sad state of affairs so sadly many officers need to assume people are armed.

If you have a point to prove, use factual info. I've never been the victim of a crime. I've never seen a firearm (my father was a prison guard for 20 years), nor any illegal drugs.
