Being gay is not something I would wish on my child because I know first hand about all the intolerance in the world. I also wouldn't be upset if my child was gay. it isn't a lifestyle choice anymore than being heterosexual is a choice.

The whole Lucas / Edwin storyline is really excellent - well written and acted by all concerned.It brings into play lots of different facets. AND it's very true to life in my case. When I first started going out with my boyfriend his parents eventually found out and his father was VERY upset - breaking down and crying - how could my son be that way - and is it my fault that he is gay etc. etc. Then when I first met his parents I gave an Oscar winning performance (how modest) and won them over!
For a 'man of science' Aton sure sounds lke he's quoting a fundi preacher at a tent revival. All that 'nature' talk--just an excuse to be homophobic and disguise it as 'science'.

I love the way Edwin smiles at 7:04 when Nina says her father "also isn't always happy with my boyfriends". When Edwin hears the "also" plus "boyfriends" he knows she is alluding to his angry father and his own boyfriend, Lucas. Entirely naturally, Nina is acknowledging a total equality between her heterosexual relationships and their gay relationship. And she is also referring to the one he loves. So Edwin smiles.

It's so obvious that Anton is also gay, at least he had homosexual adventures in his young ages, but he didn't want to admit to himself that he is gay and he repressed it with having a 'normal' life & family.

To Anton the whole concept of two men in love is impossible, that sex is repulsive, disgusting etc. So his mind will not allow him to accept even the notion that his son might be gay, so his son has to be "confused". That homosexuallity is degrading and that a male who commits such an act is not truly a man but, rather some deformed and disgusting freak of nature that should be stamped out. That homosexuality is contagious (this from mindless fear). Anton needs professional help.

Every single bit of acting has been amazing - from Bianca to Edwin and others.... I only started watching this SL about 2 weeks ago, and this show has just blown me away. Completely taken me by surprise, the attention to detail, everything. Our soaps in the UK need to learn a thing or 2 from our European neighbours, lol xD

Bianca is amazing. She's the soul of that family, She's loving, caring, and most importantly selfless. Her begging Edwin to come home was difficult to watch. You see how very vulnerable she is when her children are at risk. You want to know her, to talk with her at a cocktail party, to share a cup of coffee and moments with her. Anton, you want to slap as you walk past him in a crowded elevator. I can't but wonder whether her children have been the glue that has kept that marriage alive.

As for Bianca, I am not surprised she has not left Anton. She has been married to him for a long time now and she made a vow, for better or for worst, rich or poor, sickness and in health. You cannot just abandon him when times are bad. True love requires you stand by your man.
I so love the scenes with Edwin and Nina. She is one of my favorite characters--along with Janine, who I adore with all my heart--and though I don't entirely agree with what she's saying, I love that she's trying to console Edwin and that she sees parallels between her situation and his. The heart wants what it wants.
Nina, dear, I know you want to help but, being related by blood doesn't mean EVERYTHING. Also, a 'father' is not a 'dad' the same way a 'mother' is not a 'mom'. These things are not granted by blood. That's why there are wonderful step/adoptive parents in this world! :)

I love the subtle things in some of these scenes. Like Bianca grabbing four plates for breakfast like she always does and then realizing it's one too many, but we only see a shot of her hands as she realizes this and not her face. It's a subtle, but important detail.
Ah, I was wondering when the "there's a reason only men and women can make children together"-argument would come up! It has arrived. I think Anton has now adressed every single cliché in the book. I can't stand him, but I guess that just means they write his character brilliantly. And Joep is such an amazing actor!

Assaulting someone is very serious and assaulting the person your child is in love with is such a violation of trust, it's the type of thing that permanently scars a relationship. It's a bit different than insulting someone over dinner.

Biology has very little to do with fatherhood. The ability to contribute genetic material toward the creation of new life doesn't signify. Fatherhood isn't borne out of procreation, it's the product of caring, trust, and selflessness, among countless other things. Anton may possess the first two. He hasn't a drop of the last.

Thanks Mark.... too bad no Ludwin moment it would have been nice to see that after Edwin talk to Nina but I guess will have to wait... I really hope Lucas would convince Edwin to go home and face his father. His father has to realize that he is gay he's not confused that he has to accept that. And if after explaining that and Anton can't still accept then that's the time he really moved out and if he want to live independently not with Lucas because that's too soon too

It's so obvious that Anton is also gay, at least he had homosexual adventures in his young ages, but he didn't want to admit to himself that he is gay and he repressed it with having a 'normal' life & family.
That's why he says that Edwin is confused and he is not gay because he want to explain his own decision and life that he was also 'confused' but than had a wife and two sons.
I am so sure that Anton is gay too but he repressed it in himself.

To Anton the whole concept of two men in love is impossible, that sex is repulsive, disgusting etc. So his mind will not allow him to accept even the notion that his son might be gay, so his son has to be "confused". That homosexuallity is degrading and that a male who commits such an act is not truly a man but, rather some deformed and disgusting freak of nature that should be stamped out. That homosexuality is contagious (this from mindless fear). Anton needs professional help.

What disgusts me even more than Anton is the thought that there are thousands just like him. I literally cannot begin to fathom what persuades someone to think that they have the right to tell someone who they should love, especially when it comes to a loving, consensual relationship. Nobody has the right to do that. Is it so hard to understand that love is love, regardless of gender. There is no sound argument against homosexuality, just prejudice and hate.

What the hell happened to Bianca at the end, she backpedaled dramatically. Guess these are the wonders of a soap opera I can only imagine.
She told Anton rightfully so that having him home wouldn't resolve anything, just after that something overcame her and she went to apologize and play the emotional card when it's Anton who has to face Edwin while accepting him AND his boyfirend.

Every single bit of acting has been amazing - from Bianca to Edwin and others.... I only started watching this SL about 2 weeks ago, and this show has just blown me away. Completely taken me by surprise, the attention to detail, everything. Our soaps in the UK need to learn a thing or 2 from our European neighbours, lol xD

Bianca is amazing. She's the soul of that family, She's loving, caring, and most importantly selfless. Her begging Edwin to come home was difficult to watch. You see how very vulnerable she is when her children are at risk. You want to know her, to talk with her at a cocktail party, to share a cup of coffee and moments with her. Anton, you want to slap as you walk past him in a crowded elevator. I can't but wonder whether her children have been the glue that has kept that marriage alive.

I agree with Nina, blood is thicker than water. Your father is still your father. Anton needs a hell of a lot of time. He'll come around eventually.
As for Bianca, I am not surprised she has not left Anton. She has been married to him for a long time now and she made a vow, for better or for worst, rich or poor, sickness and in health. You cannot just abandon him when times are bad. True love requires you stand by your man.

I so love the scenes with Edwin and Nina. She is one of my favorite characters--along with Janine, who I adore with all my heart--and though I don't entirely agree with what she's saying, I love that she's trying to console Edwin and that she sees parallels between her situation and his. The heart wants what it wants.

For Edwin, the conditions are not ideal for a successful relationship ! Although this is not their fault at all 2, I fear the consequences for the future ! It's a lot of problems for a young boy and a very bad experience for his first homosexual experience, already difficult to manage at the outset for him .. Unconsciously he could make Lucas indirectly responsible for all these problems and eventually change his feelings . It's no good !

Should we pray to the soap gods that Noud runs over Anton & the shock revives his memory? That's not going to happen. I'd dump Anton in a heartbeat, but I'm not Bianca. If they wanted us glued to our seats & chained to our computer screens, I think the writers have succeeded.

But something to disprove Antons argumentation: Also in nature there are many animals who show homosexual behaviour. And as to the "only a woman and a man can make a baby": then he should probably make sure his wife always stays under ~45 years.

Giraffes and Japanese Macaques are excellent examples of same sex sex and relationships is nature. Also don't forget animals like the sea horse who have reversed parenting roles. I don't agree with Nina either. As a child you must respect your parents but it also works the other way round. Parents must respect their children, their choices and love them the way they are. Edwin can't go back home after what Anton did to Lucas, it'd be like "I forgive you for beating my boyfriend". Lucas needs Edwin's support, he needs to have Edwin on his side. Otherwise, what kind of boyfriend Edwin would be ? There's no forgiveness for Anton. He went too far. Edwin you must stay strong

I love the subtle things in some of these scenes. Like Bianca grabbing four plates for breakfast like she always does and then realizing it's one too many, but we only see a shot of her hands as she realizes this and not her face. It's a subtle, but important detail.

@fra4626 Exactly! I'm a firm believer in forgive, but don't forget. Edwin needs to be able to let what go happen and not hate his father for his own well being, but I don't think he should be too hasty in letting him back into his life and trusting him again.
Assaulting someone is very serious and assaulting the person your child is in love with is such a violation of trust, it's the type of thing that permanently scars a relationship. It's a bit different than insulting someone over dinner.

Biology has very little to do with fatherhood. The ability to contribute genetic material toward the creation of new life doesn't signify. Fatherhood isn't borne out of procreation, it's the product of caring, trust, and selflessness, among countless other things. Anton may possess the first two. He hasn't a drop of the last.
