wish i was there in the BBC studio - everyones tapping their feet enjoying themselves. and Sunglasses inside? the guitarist thinks he's in Glasvagas..
I figured it out. He sings more of a falsetto in the studio, but in live shows he's always trying to sing louder, more folk type singing. This makes up for the difference in both sound and range of his voice.
It's the bass thats so loud and out of tune, not the guitar. The bass player is jumping around like an idiot and the singer can't sing. They choked. At least the drummer is awesome.
..if you're into "the indie rock sorta thing," give a quick look at our videos.. not many uploaded yet, since the band is still really only in its "baby stages," ..but still :)
PS: ..saw them at Spaceland in l.a. not long ago :) ..played awesome :)
I mean Jesus he sounds like he's trying to remember the lyric "this is small town music......" there isn't that much of a pause buddy that's all one lyric. It's really too bad he sucks live
it's a shame he can't sing... but they're so good! i actually loved too fake before they performed here but only discovered this song on here... amazing!
that guitar is so out of tune. bass doesn't sound too hot either, sucks that they'd let that happen on their first (?) TV appearance. still love the band though
Well it's about Roxy Musics "Virginia Plain"! This first single was out in 1972.
Bryan Ferrys song lyrics to Virginia Plain opens with the same as Song Away:
Make me a deal, and make it straight and Hockey also say: This aint no roxy music
As Seattle Music writes:
Song Away" name-checks Roxy Music and goes so far as to claim I like to let you know I'll always be straight with you. It's all meta as fuck, but since these beats sound as good as they do, we'll bite.
the lead singer sounds like bob dylan, looks jamie kennedy (comedian), and dresses like that jessie guy that won the MTV 'who wants to be a VJ' contest like 10 years ago. This band is legit
This is a great song and obviously a very good band, that have lots of fun, the thing that troubles me here is that its supposed to be live but the bass player doesnt appear to be playing the driving bass line throughout the song!
He definitely is for two reasons: 1) this is Live on Later!, they have a strict 100% live music policy, and 2) if you listen, he's not always fully in time with the drums. I think what we're looking at is a case of competent bassist.
It seems like you are to worried about the bands look than the music itself. You should stop listening to music altogether and just watch fashion shows.
does anyone think this sounds like EVERY OTHER BRITISH BAND? i mean... honestly. if the songs i'm hearing are representative of their album, i'm sorry for them. they really need to do something new.
I dont know who the keyboard player is but the bassist is Phil Lynotts white doppleganger.. same hair style, same hair colour, same palistinian scarf (colour too), same style of playing the bass :)
They are really good! I agree with the comment about Jools Holland exposing the public to good music. I've seen so many bands that I had to have their albums after hearing them on the show.
I went and saw Friendly Fires tonight just after I left the last message and Hockey were supporting... I didn't even know they going to be there... how awesome is that!!
thanks for that , i have too fake , and play it on my vinyl only dj set ,i do on a sunday night in a local bar . i use origional dj decks , i was fortunate to win a brand new set on ebay two years ago. thanks again
I think I like. They're definately a summer band, I can just see them on a glastonbury stage. lead singer's got annoying mannerisms but a really great voice.
later.. is awesome. i don't think we'd be able to discover bands like this if it wasn't for it.
I agree with this! Later is a brilliant show, I went on to buy and enjoy Hot Chips album greatly after seeing them perform on later, provided me with over 3000 listens, each being as enjoyable as the last!

well those of you who are complaining that the studio version is better, it's probably because you prefer polished and over produced sound.
This is more raw version.... and i LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he has a beautiful and very strong voice.
And about the way he sings in this video - i reckon it would be boring if he'd sing the song always the same way...
