As an aside, the production of this piece is totally atrocious. They are re-using footage, and spent an enormous amount of time repeating themselves, the graphics are annoying, the pacing is all wrong and the dramatizations inauthentic. This story is still compelling though, and this event had an enormous effect in the militarization of American police. I feel like something called the History Channel should be better than looking like they hired Jerry Springer's production staff though.

You know, this is really stupid. They already knew that they were using AK47's and the still dont dispatch the SWAT team there, yes they might need time to prepare but if they were already there in the start, they could have saved the other cops lives and they wouldent have to sustain gun wounds. I feel so bad for the cops there, I just blame the SWAT for not arriving faster enough to save them and why the hell didn't they give automatic weapons to the officers? I thought that was a request?

This has nothing to do with gun laws, i live in DC where we have some of the most strict gun laws in the nation however one of the highest gun crime rates in the nation, if a criminal wants a gun it doesnt matter what the law says he going to try to find a way to get one

I come from a country with gun control and crime is so high because criminals get the guns stolen or black market and they know they have the upper hand when commiting a crime. Decent people has no chance to defend themselves against these criminals.

The US murder rate with fire arms is over 25times HIGHER than in the UK. The homicide rate in the USA is in general over 20times higher. Guns are the problem...not the solution to a problem. In 2001/2002 the USA murder rate with fire arms, per 100k population was 3.98. In England, the Murder rate with Firearms per 100k was just 0.15. Thats...staggering. It means that you murder rate is over 26 times higher than in the UK. Im sure that the figures are slightly different now, but...do some research before talking.

You are right, I dont deny that a determined criminal will be able to get hold of a gun. However, if the controls are in place, or there is a prohibition of firearms, quite clearly, gun crime is kept to a minimum. And the facts and figures bare that out. Having such lax gun laws allows a saturation of firearms in the hands of people that arent in any way, mentally fit, or psychologically fit to have them. But you can limit gun crime but not remove it entirely.
