That "old coot" is Sam Loomis: a complete badass!! When he passed away (RIP) the movies weren't the same anymore. You need Loomis for the "Michael Myers" thing to work effectively. Donald Pleasence was the friggin' best!

Hit by car then slammed into a van that explodes. Man he was killed twice. Anybody know any other movies where someone is killed twice. Bad Boys II comes to mind when Johnny Tapia is shot in the head and then falls on a land mine.

He hit his head and died...supposedly. He does end up surviving this in the TV version, but the theatrical version implies pretty heavily that he dies. By slipping on blood.

Even in the theatrical version he's seen again in the scene when Laurie hides in a car in the hospital parking lot...from there he "passes" out and hits his head on the steering wheel sounding the horn. Alerting a waiting Myers of Laurie's exact location...
