I did this song in my vocal class. We sang AND danced. It's harder than it looks doing the Riverdance. My calves were killing me after doing the song, plus we had to get a lot of breath for the high notes. It was extremely hard, but I loved it.
Looove this song. Looked it up because my choir teacher decided for one reason or another not to complete it, and to di it for any CCHS program. It has been stuck in my head for 13 years!!
The instruments over power their voices, it's a slight disappointment. I'm learning this song in my vocal ensemble class, we only have a piano so I suppose that's why we don't have that problem.
I dunno. I like this song, we're going it in our next Choir performance. No flutes and drums though, all on the Piano. It sounds so different from each other....
@Yessacmidnight I'm not hypercritical, I did enjoy it . . . when I was singing it with my college choir. But this was especially awful in comparison. It was just bad if I didn't compare it to us.
@asinasis107 Dude, when I was in 8th grade, my choir sung most of the songs from Les Miserables. Totally not something 8th graders are capable of singing. But it was the most fun I've ever had with a choir before, and quite possibly one of the most valuable aspects of my whole choir career.
It's not about maturity or age, it's about the enjoyment of the experience, and the emotion that goes into making the music.
@Yessacmidnight That's only part of being a choir. The other part is being able to grow in your music and having the maturity to handle complex pieces of music. Having fun just doesn't make a good choir. If that's all it took, then most good choirs would be awful. You can't make music unless you're enjoying yourself, but you also can't make exceptional sound if your voice can't handle it. I would simply cry if I saw a bunch of middle school brats trying to sing something like this.
@asinasis107 To be quite honest, it's not about sounding good. It's learning music, and learning how to read and comprehend it. Thats what teachers are paid to teach. Not to "Sing gud." And the students that join join because they love making music, and they love putting emotion into it. Not to get handed music that is for kids grades and grades lower than them, and not be expected of their teachers to be able to do better
Teachers need to push their students, give them the best. Not the average
@s2broadwaybabys2 It is a college level song because high schoolers are too immature. There is no way for this song to be sung properly by anyone whose voice is still maturing.
@grace9012 I was a soprano one when I was in high school and the trick is to make sure you practice and warm up or you will hurt your voice. The worst thing you can do is look up when trying to hit those high notes or like annetgleek said it will come out like a squeak and very sharp. (It sounds horrible cause this girl in our choir who was loud always did that)
@grace9012 make sure you keep the back of your throat open, and sing very warmly so it doesnt come out like a squeak/ sharp. and if you cant get that try to sing nasily, but work on getting the sound more warm. good luck!
yeah. there is a group at my school doing this. they are all male and it is incredible. it's a very select group, so clearly the best of the best are singing it
we're doing this in choir too, it doesn't sound as good as this, only because we have aton of other freshman that cant hit high notes or havent hit puberty yet :P
It's sounds as smooth as the rivers when you get to the "Dreamers, Lovers" part! I just love it! In fact, a lot of this song is very smooth the way you guys sing it! This really amazes me! Wish it was a tad louder (Stupid YouTube reducing quality)

@NOTASAVIOUR It's just the room. It's really really dead. And they are performing without a shell, so the sound is spread out more.

@2014Cytherea it's just the room. it's really dead acoustically. if it had been done in a more "live" space it would sound better.

This is a college level song. No one under the age of 18 has a mature enough voice to sing it. That's why this performance sucked so bad.,

@asinasis107 we have to sing this for chior, in 8th grade

@starsofliberty I couldn't be more disgusted to hear that a bunch of children are going to sing this song.
asinasis107 10 months ago
@asinasis107 Sucked? I disagree. It's exceptionally good. There are some sections they could improve on, especially with the men.
If you weren't so hypercritical, you would actually be able to enjoy it.
