  • how the hell did this get 130,768 views?!

  • Next time don´t smoke weed before recording a video!

  • @tavomore79 Next time dont smoke crack before posting a comment.

  • nice vid every one subscribe to him

  • i got a better studio poor nigga

  • lol got a good set up apart from the key thing, good studio monitors, krks are wank.

  • Mic stands dude.

  • well i have a few questions... 1 can u use a laptop (windows) 2 y do u need speakers?

  • @jojoifly

Yeah, you can use a laptop, that's what I use (as long as it's a decent one with good Ram, and memory!) You don't need speakers (I don't have any) but they're good if you want to play your music loudly (obviously!) One suggestion I would make is to buy a pair of consumer level speakers or headphones so that once you've recorded your song, you will be able to hear it how other people will hear it with their equipment. If I were you, I would buy a some good headphones! Hope I helped!

  • @jojoifly Laptop yes, buy an external soundcard. Speakers no necesarely, but for mixing is preferable our you will end with a shitty mix.

  • I think Mac is best for Studio recording :)

  • cubase :D

  • Agreed Pro Tools is the industry standard. Pro Tools HD with a HD card and a HD interface, Would technically be industry standard. Not a Mbox 3 with Pro Tools 10. As being labeled "Industry Standard" Pro Tools is behind in the technology aspect compared to other DAW's.

  • @am8849er way to regurgitate!! keep it up

  • Please send me the things (List) that needed for the Home Recording Studio by Email at lacindia@gmail.com

    Dr. Hem Sagar Rasaily

  • What type of Sennheisers do you have?

  • It seems to me you spend all of your time learning how to use the damn technology! It is what it is...........computer music! Lookie here, I programmed, sequenced, cut, copied and pasted this sonic piece of shit!!! Have you nerds ever turned a knob??? This kind of recording is not for musicians!

  • this video should have been called "home studio recording for people that want to do it all on a computer"

    bor-ing!

  • @VincentsVideoVisions yes, is a little boring, but saves lots of money, otherwise, this is a home studio, a real studio have real keyboards, analog effects, real drums. all of these, and maybe some plug ins.

    :D

  • Wow! Look at all these comments from people who think they know what they are talking about! At least this guy is confident enough to share what he has learned. How can anyone watching this even say that what he is saying is not true? Have you ever been in the room he is in? I am guessing not so how can you say that his setup sucks?! Stop trying to show off knowledge people! There is something to learn from everyone.

  • rich kid.. AGAIN!

  • That chair, does not look comfortable... and not very suited for studio work...

  • @clarityria After spending all that money on the equipment, he had none left for a chair, so he had to grab mamas chair out of the kitchen.

  • @browser067 Haha, sad thing is that he wasted some of the money on shitty stuff....

  • REASON 6 FTW

  • this guy prolly makes dubstep. FTW

  • ya because gigabytes is how you measure processing power...

and my superior drummer presets use 1 gb ram.

  • @GuernB2 he said a gig, referencing gigahertz.

  • I use Logic Pro 8 & 9 but you are on PC I use Mac.

  • @FredEFuego he said he is using a mac pro

  • @FredEFuego Its probably just the monitor. the pro model macs are just the tower and you ad a monitor

  • @CMSpida I know that I have a Mac Pro & use my 47'' LED HDTV as a monitor

  • your a fucking idiot.

  • @serbsaint lol

  • Now, I'm not an expert or anything... but... you shouldn't have to mic those electric drums you have...

  • i just use logic 3's fucking god

  • All in all how much would this entire set cost ya?

  • @Stizou777

a good decent home studio should cost somewhere near 6-10 thousand dollars, if you want a wide range of genre production. You can lower the cost by focusing on a single genre rather than trying to cover many.

  • @TFCFredNVick cheers mate

  • yeah, so... if you are gonna build a studio, you are, uh... gonna need stuff... preferably stuff that sounds good... and stuff that works.

  • I think you forgot to talk about the big audio interface sitting in front of you man, specifiically since thats how you get your recorded instruments INTO the program in your computer. Cheers.

  • BUT, you need a better computer chair.

  • Fuck this little runt. There are thousands of dollars worth of equipment in this video, fuck.

  • which ones are better... yamaha hs50's or mackie mr5 mk2?

  • @CLOUD9VIZION Mackie are better. I have the hs80m which are worth the price the hs50 needs a sub cause it lacks bass while mackies do lack a bit but have better sound then 50

  • I like your choice of mic's, i love audix. especialy for drums. But i miss a good mixer? :D

  • CoolCool! i have only one question . i m having problems with recording the singing . can You Please make a tutorial how to record singing? i mean when i record my singing the quality sounds totally different from the guitar what i recorded . can i correct it with a program or it depends on the mic? and how loud should be the singing in a song? sometimes i hear singers with weak voice singing a rock tune, i wanna be able to do that too . Thanks a lot!

  • all you NEED for production is a laptop, earphones and program. The other crap is just for convenience. Skrillex recorded some of the vocals used in his tracks through his laptop mic. Dont let your budget limit what you can create.

  • @mrstevemarr thats the dumbest thing i ever heard, how would you get any other instrumental input on your laptop? lay your laptop with the mic on your synthesizer? You think your laptop's on board soundcard would let you record multichannel recordings? Or give you a good sound refference? Don't try to be wise about something you obviously don't have any knowledge about. Recording a vocal on your laptop is something completely different as recording a complete production, Einstein...

  • @cocorocco wow dude your ignorance assumes im talking about this one genre. almost any synthesiser can be bought and used virtually without any loss in quality. Me for instance, i sample to create music. Please i am interested in listening to what you have made. Myself, i have nothing to hide soundcloud(dot)com/stevemarr. Right now i am producing even though my page is only filled with mashups and mixes. Your comment only proves your ignorance, nothing else.

  • @mrstevemarr you should learn to read before you get cocky on your comments.(as well as i, because i just saw that your comment was about production)But if i'm not misstaking this video is about a RECORDING studio, not a PRODUCTION studio. I am well aware that you don't need more then a laptop, good headphone and some descend software to make a production. But like i said, this video is about a recording studio and you NEED some more equipment for that then you suggest.

  • @cocorocco Aight i agree with you

  • Audacity

  • better info else where!!!!

  • Rhode for drums and bass?! Beta 58 for guitar?! are you serious?!

You should realy get more into mic's and there use...

Beta 58 is a live vocal mic.... rhodes is a studio vocal mic..

you should use directional mics for recording drums.. as overheads.

  • @sirsmokealot112 most of what you say is true... but the Beta 58 (Which is SM58) can be used for recording instruments as well. it depends on the sound you want to get. but yeah most of what you say is true.

  • WTF???? pro tools? ableton? and that other one that i dont now... u missed the best one dude!! LOGIC PRO!

  • @McKrisis

    I prefer Ableton.

  • @McKrisis logic pro is the shit

  • @MrSpecialk1 actually Logic Pro is one of the best pieces of software I have ever used for recording (and I have been using software to record since the original version of cakewalk pro audio). I am not saying it is the best, but one of. Each person will have their own opinion based on their experience and depending on the computer. For me personally Logic Pro was much easier to learn than pro tools and has a massive catalogue of plug ins (effects and synths) that came with it.

  • @McKrisis the best one?? why is it the best one??? is it the best for then its fine but dont tell for anybody else that its the best.. i had logic and i throw it away after 6 months and go back to fl studio.. because logic was not the best for me...

  • @McKrisis The best one? Dude Pro Tools is the industry standard. Logic is the work of satan.

  • It's nice mummy & daddy could buy you all this stuff!! What a shame if you can't afford to buy the basic high level gear!! SHOW OFF!!

  • FKN dick head

  • CAN ANYBODY TELL ME WAT KIND SPEAKERS R THEY???:(

  • CAN ANYBODY TELL ME WHAT KIND OF SPEAKERS ARE THEY?? I BEEN TRYN TO KNO THE NAME OF THE SPEAKERS FOR A LONG TIME:(

  • Anyone else think this kid is a dork?

  • Can I use a mixer (USB) instead of an interface? Because I want to record drums as well.

  • What about he room? The hardware is like 50% of a good recording.

  • So what about hardware compressors?

  • lol most windows computer come with 4 gb of ram

  • @OfficialTBSR Yeah, but this video was made over 2 years ago.

  • @sethisrad yeah aha my bad i didnt realize that till now xD

  • I like the comment "At least a gig of RAM and at least 2 gigs of processing..."

I made complete albums using a PII 250MHz with 32MB of RAM. I know another guy that did up to 16 tracks with an Intel 486 and Windows 3.1. He used a hardware mixer though.

  • can us the rqde to test the speakers

  • can you use a mixer as an inerface?

  • @kylebike128 yeah, if it's a USB or FireWire mixer

  • recording bass with that micc??????????????

  • LOL stoner....m

  • I have a sony vaio, i bought last year,, it has a 2.13 Ghz processor, its a intel core i3 processor, it has 4 Gb ram, a 64 bit operating system and around 250 Gb hard drive. can i use this laptop to power lets say ableton live or pro tools, with a midi keyboard and other needed devices to record music? i dont want to upgrade if i dont have to, plus it seems like this computer is pretty fast. thanks.

  • @colinwar i think your laptop is fast enough to enable working with modern daws like pro tools.

  • @schlagl123 right on, thanks for the info.

  • @jebonlalok The pro tools is the mixer. It's the same thing, just on a computer.

  • I'm new to this so do you record and combind your voice in the recording programs. if not how ?

  • no mixer?

  • 2 ghz not gig

  • damnn , how much mics do u have ?

  • what do i plug my guitar up to???

  • The Audix D6 is a horrible Kick mic, its SPL resistence is terrible and it isnt resistant to 100hz resonance frequencies! Spend a coupla hundred dollars on a nice industry standard D112 or Beta58, Throw away that Audix crap.

  • All this equipment, but i bet you don't have a top 100 hit on the radio. i see a lot of video of people's home studios and they never once, say hey i produce this song, that may of heard on the radio or i produced this artist, that have a couple hit songs out. No your never here that on youtube, but all you hear is how much stuff i have in my studio, that is collecting dust.

  • @rudeboys28712 you dont have to be a dick about it. who cares if it isnt on the radio as long as they're doing what they love to do, thats all that matters.

  • @rudeboys28712 you sit here typing out retarded video responses but how much of your writing has been published in the new york times? what? none of it? all i hear is the sound of your stupidity

  • Thanks for posting, this helps

  • Do you have to plug your mics into the interface first? Or would it sound just as good if you went from a mixer to an interface?

  • You can plug the mic directly into your interface however, if you run your signal through a mic pre or a good analog mixer first then to the interface. You can really achieve a warm sound by running the signal through some good quality mixers or mic pres before interface. I usually mix tube with solid state. Almost sounds like tape. Also it is important to get a good A/D converter. Analog to digital converter. This is what is responsible for capturing the sound's best sonic fidelity.

  • Do you think you could send me the pro tools disk?

  • Mackie HR824's a beast

  • I pretty much followed what you stated and now I'm up and running tell me what you think?

  • Brilliant video one of the best i have seen!

  • NT1A is great! I've got one of them and it gives you such clean vocals, it's great.

  • any1 know how i hook up an amp to a m audio box to power the speakers? Cause i need to get it louder!

  • @ACVTVMusic It would probably be cheaper to just buy powered speakers, like some of the smaller KRKs.

  • @DrCool73 You ever used a Samson G-Track interface mic? Or Samson, Neumann, AKG, Electro-Voice, Shure, Sennheiser, Audio-Technica, Blue mics? How about Sonar, Fruity Loops, Garage Band or Presonus or Propellerhead recording software? Nice studio setup, dude!

  • @ACVTVMusic

hello!! i too also have a yamaha amp to power my diamond refferance speakers when i have mixed my track/tracks on a pair of hs80 yamaha monitors and krk 8,s. anyway for your question. if you have phono ports at the back of your amp i would suggest you get a dual phono to dual trs cable. Plug in your left and right phono plugs to one of your imputs on the amp. ( dont forget to attach your speakers! )

  • @ACVTVMusic

after you have done that you then plug the remaining dual trs plugs to either outputs 1+2 or 3+4 or whatever outputs you have on the interface. Also a suggestion if you record or like to listen to stuff in 5.1 surround sound, hook up a subwoffer, main right and left and rear right and left to get that surround sound feel!!

    best wishes

    Nick

    I hope this helps!

  • dude the problem might be in the monitors you bought, not the M-box. check the impedance. high impedence monitors are generally for mixing on an analogue desk where you need to drive a signal and have it come out at a softer level.

  • does any1 know how i hook up my speakers to my m audio box??

  • This video is atrocious.

  • @DrunkIrelandPunk If you say so

  • i just want to record my voice so i can do my own covers of songs so wat do i need

  • You are not explaining what type of mics, speakers they need! You need to go into detail to at-least make your video useful.

  • I gotta say you seem to have a great set up. Speakers away from the walls tilted down to you ears, equilateral triangle. Would have loved to see more of the instruments you have.

  • Yo man, i got Yamaha speakers. Are they good? Reply...

  • @Germ303 Well what model are they?

  • Comment removed

  • tape? Yeh if you're a rich ass mf. You got a U67 mic to go with that too?

  • uhmmm uuhmm uhmmm Cubase 5 !!!!

  • Are those KRK's? If so, which generation and how do you like them?

  • @elijahpr They are KRK's, they're Rockit 5s from about 4 years ago, they are great for their size.

  • @DrCool73 Hey wht computer do you think i should buy for music recording work , recording my songs Imac or wht ?? i really wanna get imac but i think tht the only shitty thing about imac is tht you don't have a good msn like windows , and wht mic

    Mxl or AKG

  • ++++++++++++

  • protools is sheet! acoustics instruments on a tape are better!

  • @menestrel76

Do you know how expensive and inefficient it would to have an analog setup in a home studio? ProTools is what gives everyone the chance to record at home...

  • Hey man, i dig the video, how do you like the digi 003 rack?

  • @GST555 thanks! the 003 is great! it sounds very clean and the controls are very nice, the way its set up (the control panel) is very well thought out. if you are thinking of getting one, I urge you to go for the 003 rack+ if you are ever going to be recording more than 4 tracks at a time

  • @DrCool73 Wrong, if you were to purchase an Adat converter than your up upto 8 more tracks. Also if you can put preamps on your 4 analog thats 16 total.

  • how u connect the interface to computer? mics and those big speakers?

  • @Arundeep333 the interface is connected with firewire, and some are connected with USB 2.0 ... The Mics and inputs are on the back of the interface, as well as the outputs which go to the speakers. the front has the controls, along with 1 DI input and 2 headphone outs.

  • i want to make a studio in my basement, how do i isolate the sound (like make the walls not rebound the sound) ? what can i use as material ? thx

  • @hustler1babe well there are many options: you could build or buy a vocal booth if it's for vocals, or you could do a room with sound panels, which is better for any and all instruments and sounds good with vocals too. check out Auralex Acoustics products for sound baffling, and there are some videos at the bottom of this page (go to doesitrockreviews com and search "home studio" and click the 2nd) that should help you if you build your own sound panels, which can be put on walls or just leaned

  • @DrCool73

thanks :) i will start building it right now ! :)

  • what speakers are you using? cuz i see them alot...

  • @shaddorry Those are KRK's Rockit 5s they are pretty commin, and not too expensive either

  • Hey i made my bill for some semi-Pro Equipment, it goes over € 5000,00! i was thinkin: HOLY FUCK!

  • what kind of e drums do you have back there? what do you use them for?

  • @blackhawk1788 - If you are talking about the electronic drums, those are just for practice, we never use them for anything else. its a Yamaha. As far as the drums we usually use, they are Mapex, Saturn Pro's.

  • i have almost the identical setup to you, up until i think your mic selection, and the interface.

  • thank yuhh(: heres somee questions?? i hate those headphoness do yuhh ahve to use them?? can yuhh us lykee those iPod ones?? nd kan yuhh usee fl studios with protools??

  • @Jaytecktonik808 of course you don't HAVE to, but you REALLY, REALLY should.

iPod head-phones have a really bad frequency range, and practically no isolation, so you'll lose the really high and low ends, plus you'll have a lot of extra noise coming thru as you're recording. they're good head-phones really, studios have relied on them for decades.

  • @exitmusicforthefilms OH! i see (: thanks man! (:

  • Nice review. I'm investing in my own home studio right now and I hope I'll get mine looking as sweet as yours ;) P.S. mind taking a min to listen to some of my beats? peace!

  • @VividLeoMusic cool!

if you meant those tracks on your youtube channel, then they sound very good! high quality and i like the creativity! and creativity is the key! :) keep it up, and let me know when you've got some tracks from your new studio up!

  • @DrCool73 Thanks man! means alot. I plan on uploading new tracks regularly so hopefully we stay in touch!

  • hey what the difference between hard ware ans software recording gear

  • @FullmetalFan500 hardware is the actual like stuff, stuff that is equipment, and software is the programs on the computer, including the recording program, effects, and mastering programs, etc...

  • @DrCool73 And when you use software how do you record with your amp where do you connect it and also with your pedalboard?

  • @FullmetalFan500 I just go from guitar to pedal board to amp and then mic the amp and record the mics signal in protools.

  • what interface is that

  • @TheSchoolsux345 Its the Digidesign Rack 003+

  • Haha, You Need At Least 4GB on PC Bro! I've Used PC's For Recording.....PAIN!!! I Love My Apples!!!

  • @JoshuaBeeLoved Well i guess thats true, I had forgotten that we had added some RAM to our old PC when we recorded with it. but yes, you're probably right, 4GB on a PC.

  • you mist something

    a confi chair

    hahahahah

  • Traction is a toy & never mix with a sub.

  • @crashdog5866 But it is a good toy to start on :) and actually mixing with and without a sub both will give the best idea of what your mix will sound like on different sound system set ups

  • @DrCool73 Well the problem with mixing with a sub is that low end( like 30 to 250 Hz) Takes 40 to 60 feet to develop. You can't hear stuff accurately in a studio environment with a sub.

  • Nice set up man

  • What are some good software interfaces pref 4-8 plug ins.

  • And you're gonna need some decent armchair :)

  • what type of speakers are those?

  • I am like 95% sure that those are some KRK rokit 5s

  • @shatteredbrutal krk rockit 5's g1

  • those are monitors speakers.,.,around $200-$300

  • great video, what is your setup for recording drums?

do you record 8 mics directly in to your rack interface, or do you run out of a mixer in to your interface.

also how are you connecting your interface to your computer, if firewire do you get all drum mics as sepeate tracks in pro tools?
