While it is more of a story than game mechanic, how do you know/choose how far you go back in time? Do you decide how many hours/days you go back or is it set to a fixed amount of time so you don't end up running into yourself who also was time traveling?
The gameplay with so much action and all that is awesome, but by the end of watching this, i still had no idea what the goals were. I didn't get why the player teleported randomly, what the green means or ANYTHING! Maybe there's a trailer explaining i missed, was just linked here.
The graphics are awful and the trailer is confusing, it comes across like a Portal clone without any of the fun parts. Also, the game is set in a Dam? Is it a goddamn?
@dekionplexis how is it a portal clone what soever? it lets you travel inbetween time periods, not specific spots within the same time. and of course the graphics arent up to par with a AAA title, its an indy game. honestly, it looks like alot of fun to me, and its a new idea that hasnt really been explored. if you want something generic just go play call of duty or something :/
I'm still wondering how can you "guess" how is the alternative reality, what happen if you "teleport" in a wall (or right in front of a danger), maybe there should be a way to "see" the other reality (without having to "teleport" yourself in it) with a strong transparency filter
Actually you can't teleport into a wall. If you notice the "gun" device (T3 as we call it) has a light that is red or green. If the light is green, it's safe to jump time periods. If the light is red, that means something is blocking your way and you can't jump to the other time.
As far as "danger" is concerned, well, when you play the game you get a feel for what to expect.
@ShiftingIsEasy A ridiculous amount of power, and the fact this small gun is capable of such a thing means that it could easily be scaled to do so.
Of course, time travel opens up a unfathomable amount of options and crafting a story around such a premise is extremely difficult and i understand that, but i feel like you have something unique and cool here and the story does not fit with it.
given that its entirely fictional tech it's kinda silly to try to make logical deductions about it (it could take almost no power to move things through time... whatever the writers want it to be).
As for why not go back in time? Maybe its one of those time travel things where you can't go back beyond the invention of the technology -
@Isanion of actual time travel? Of course we would.
however before i go into my actual point about the story i must also make these points:
While the tech is fictional, time travel is not, it is theoretically possible and grounded in science. Also as to the tech being fictional, all fiction is based on reality or instances of reality, and so it is not silly to make logical deductions at all, and your comment as such is completely asinine.
@Isanion I am also fine with their ability to make up the tech as they see fit, like i said my issue is with the story. BUT theoretically speaking, Time travel to the past is allowed by: Traveling faster than the speed of light, The use of cosmic strings and black holes, Wormholes and the "Alcubierre drive".
All of which under almost any circumstances would require a massive power source.
But anyways, my main issue is how they need (and would even use..) Time travel tech to build a dam... -
@Isanion I mean really? Build a dam??? (A really big dam, yes... but still...)
Also, they could fuck up history just by teleporting to the past, or not. We literally have no idea do we. As for "by rearranging the landscape in the distance past.... that kinda stuff could have prevented the grand canyon from ever being formed, so then theres nothing to dam."
Are you serious?...LOL
The idea that they would use Time tech to build a dam is just retarded, their idea needs a better story, thats all.
I ignored 1, because its your opinion and I can't argue with it (I too would have liked to see something more unusual than a dam)
As for 2, my point remains. They've created a fictional universe, you can nit-pick all you like but given that time travel does not, and may never exist, theres no grounds to talk bout how realistic it is.
@Isanion I have never played any portal game and know nothing about it besides from tv / talk.
As for your ending statement, do we exist?
Prove it, can you?
Do we have grounds to talk about our existence?
Think about that, whilst i block you. You are clearly a fool that is trolling an admitted criticism giving irrelevant points and i need not waste my time with your opinion on my stated opinions and facts anymore.
- or maybe the destination time zone needs some particular device to be emitting a particle field of some sort, so you can only go to times when it's switched on.
They could make up any number of reasons why it works as it does.
Also maybe they don't wan to fuck up history by rearranging the landscape in the distance past.... that kinda stuff could have prevented the grand canyon from ever being formed, so then theres nothing to dam, and thus no money to be made.
@Isanion Lol not only are you talking out your ass but you miss the point, perhaps that is my fault for not being clear enough and if so let me try again.
Yes i get that they can make the tech as they see it, but if you would have paid attention my issue is not with the tech, but more with the story, plot and logic of the other tech being present in the game. For example, if we have the tech for time travel, do you really think we would not have the tech to build something fast without the need
@ShiftingIsEasy Brilliant gameplay mechanics for sure! I dont know why anyone has not thought of exactly this before
But i do have criticisms and please do not take this the wrong way, but the story seems EXTREMELY lackluster. I mean time travel tech for building a dam? If you had time travel tech, why not just go back in time and warp a mountain range or two to act as a dam?
And prior to any arguement about power usage for such a feat, the transference of any object through time would take
A very nice concept... I love it
