The ending is the signature! Why didn't you hit it completely!! AAWWWW.... Listen to it again and get that tom in on the 3 count of that grrove, bro! :) Good job though. Just technically speaking... :)
Very nice dude. Having been a Neil Peart protege myself in the day, I can say you came through. Obviously, you did drag on some areas and got sloppy (as you state), but I was impressed with your kit setup to match Neil's. Only issue...I played this song many times and just had to comment on you missing on of the prettiest points of the song at 1:01 - 1:04 and that FLAM part at 1:11-1:12 - there are none! Just a nice single roll. However @ 1:55 - 1:58 - that was hot! More complicated than CD
That was amazing! This is definitely the hardest song to drum on, just by observing what you are doing, and listening to this great song. Kudos to you!
jesus... this song/performance by you is the best by far on Youtube. I mean this of ALL Rush drum covers. You really blow me away on this version. THE hardest cover to pull off from all Rush tracks....
My favorite of all your covers man!
Can we get a video tour of this kit please? That would be great!
Thanks! They are SDS-9 pads triggering an Akai S2000 sampler through a Roland PM-16 trigger-to-MIDI interface. The samples are from a Pearl electronic brain. I got all 8 of my Simmons pads on eBay, so I really don't know how old they are.
dude!!! FINALLY!!! someone who actually listens and HEARS what Peart is doing...you have nailed this somg better than any other cover drummer I've seen/heard yet. ESPECIALLY THIS SONG!!! I don't even know what to say...
Yeah Neil started using the Mallet Kat midi marimba in 1987. That was an incredible cover job of Red Lenses, nice Simmons set-up as well. Great job well done Rob!
Neil plays the electric xylaphone at the same time as he does the drums at the solo at 2:07. I had to see it with my own eyes to believe it. Outstanding job though 5 stars!
Dude......you suck!!! KIDDING!!!!!! That was incredible!!!!! You are forgiven for missing the ghost notes on the floor tom....MUCH RESPECT!!!!! 5 Sstars from me!!
Red Lenses is one of those "underrated" Rush songs, imo and the playing is quite challenging... Watching you play it really demonstrates the brilliance Neil has at coming up with those insane patterns in the first place.
Hmm... Since you have the electrics (presumably), how about Between The Wheels? It's not as "upbeat" a song, but the choruses and especially the instrumental part is particularly fun to play.
The mix is excellent, the electronic sounds are what make this song. You did a fantastic job of merging the electronic and acoustic kit together. Very well done.
I have a couple on my page so I would love your thoughts on my solo in Chicago when you have time. Your opinion means alot to me Rob as your playing is just amazing.
The pads are from the Simmons SDS-9 series. The tom sounds are samples of a Pearl electronic kit played from an Akai S2000 sampler. The Clap Trap is a sample of a Simmons Clap Trap through the Akai. The bass and snare drum are stock sounds from a Roland SPD-20 (to my right in the video).
how long does it take to learn playing like that...?(I guess it depends on every person ,but actually,I m 28 and I would like if it is not too late to learn playing drums and to reach a very good level... )
I was hoping to find a band covering this song on YouTube but this is pretty damn good...great work! This is another under appreciated Rush great...I love the sarcasm in the lyrics.
Finally i found somebody that play Rush with felling , this is a hard song to play i know maybe one of the most difficult tracks of Neil Peart congratulations , i miss my simmons pads
Nice work! That was very entertaining. I've never seen anyone play this song on drums before. This tune represents Peart's style so well: busy and complex. It's like you had four arms going at some points!!!
Very very well played. I hust started working on this one, thanks for breaking it down for me...I've got some work to do! But great job, Ithink the best Peart rendition I've seen, congrats
everybody 2008 is just green we hallowed out the cellars, it's unoxengnetwork , pink say happy new twenty over eightSOMETHING that's why i love rush. everything else is just green!
The playing on this is so amazing... Seriously, you are just a fucking great drummer and true fan of Rush to pull this off. Believe me, for every comment that you are recieving, there are 1000's more viewers just sitting back in awe of this... MORE VIDEOS MAN!
Great drumming! How did you get the sound on this video to come through loud and clear? I listen through a pair of Bose Quiet Comfort 2 phones and it sounds really good.
Wow! Really great drumming!! I saw Rush in the 80s and on this song the drumset turned around and Neil went from electric to acoustic for an extended solo.
This was much better! Your timing was better however towards the end you lost it a bit. Neal Peart is a great drummer. His drumming is difficult to copy and you did very well. I am a drummer however I dont waste my time trying to copy difficult tunes by Rush. However I did copy with perfect timing Freewill, Laville Strangiato, and Red Lenses using a metronome. One day I will post a video so you can see on the metronome how timing should be.
I've seen many of the great drummers: Alan White, Carl Palmer, Neil (of course), Bill Bruford, Mike Portnoy, and a number of the contemporary artists, Dude, I love your work. It's fluid, pronounced, when it has to be, and busy. 5 Stars!!
Watching this guy reminds me of the time my Grandmother spent a month doing a PAINT BY NUMBERS copy of THE LAST SUPPER. Is she an artist because she copied a master? Is this guy a musician? In his Red Barchetta butchery He actually edited the tape to look better and then made excuses! Stop HACKING on someone else and get creative Unless of course you simply are NOT CAPABLE of writing and arranging some original material. Into copying things? Work at Quick Print or become a stenographer.
People don't just GET ORIGINAL all of the sudden. Every creative person always emulates their heroes to start off with and then eventually develops their own style. This drummer's probably no different. And whose to say he considers himself "a musician"? Maybe it's just a hobby to him. If someone wants to call themselves a musician, then they should be getting paid to be one, otherwise, they're not.
Damn man, this is unbelieveable. I love this song and your kit, you rocked this song hard! I watch this all the time, and I've seen your others. You are too good, awesome jobs. Keep it up!
Thanks! The pads are Simmons SDS-9 series and I also have a Pintech foot trigger next to my hi-hat pedal. They go into a Roland PM-16 trigger to MIDI converter. The cymbals are Zildjian, except for the two Wuhan chinas.
Finally, a really good drumming performance. Great job. You know the song (physically and mentally). There is more to playing than the physical aspect and you display that. Plus you understand cymbal attack!
Really like how the music is loud enought to blend his drumming into the song but you still can tell hes doin it.Really really f-ing good dude.Keep it up
Awesome! I have a gillion Rush albums and I have never heard this song or even know what album it is from! LOL..whatever, that is some awesome drumming, kuz!
