You are totally disrepecting Stanley Clarke, these guys aren't even in his league. He's at another level, these guys are great, but they can't solo, and run rifts as well as he can. Session, background playing isn't as difficult as soloing and arranging.
hmm... Stanley Clarke should be somewhere on here. One of the top upright bassists, and excellent on electric. Checkout his solo work, w/ Return to Forever and w/ Chick Corea. Great stuff!
Surprised nobody's mentioned Tony Levin or Larry Graham, But yeah, wheres Les Claypool, Cliff Burton, Geddy Lee, Flea!? Even Geezer Butler coulda squeezed in. Maybe a bigger list is needed, but then it wouldn't b top 10.

@guayo1982 mark hoppus played bass in blink 182 and now playes bass in a band called plus 44 that he started with travis barker. he has his own line of signature basses made by fender and he is one of the most talented precision bassists out there. he has his own show of Fuse called 'a different spin.' he has a song that was featured on the 'allice in wonderland' soundtrack and his bands our always at the top of any alternative or punk rock music list. he is a great vocalist as well.google him:)
@bigDmanification Not only has Plus 44 not existed for years, but reading " he is one of the most talented precision bassists out there" actually make me cringe. Dont get me wrong, Mark Hoppus is one of my favorite musicians, but you'd have to be high to think he's an above average bass player.
@guayo1982 mark hoppus is from the band blink 182 i think he is more a standart bass player then a absolutly god bassplayer :/ so its alright :) his playing is nice for beginners :D
@bigDmanification dude i love mark hoppus, but honestly u think hes one of the best? no. hes definately talented but dude i can play all his shit and i cant even drive yet.
@kcoats Is hard to answer that, but I'm able to say that we have represented the Rock/Metal/ Progresive genre very well with John Myung, in this list.
@guayo1982 Claro que deberían admitirlo. Lo que pasa es que la "generación de internet" solo conoce a Burton, Claypool, etc. Son buenos bajistas, pero el mejor de todos es simple y sencillamente Jaco.
This is not a hate comment. Cliff Burton is my favorite bassist of all time, but I can see why he isnt on this list. This is not a heavy metal video. He is a heavy metal bass player so that is why he is not on this list. Case closed.
Okay. I understand that this list is made purely on tecnicue and its not bad when you look at it from that angle, but in my oppinion its not the tenicue... You could take a bass player who only knew how to play smoke on the water, but did it with the balls of an bull and make me chose from him or an bassist who had skills, but had the energy of a wet towel on stage... i would chose the first guy. I know this is an lousy exaple, but this is the way i see it... theres more to bass than skill.
@Loveforbass I know that there are so much criteria for rank a musician, but I consider the feelin, the musicality rather than another thing that are itself out of being considered as an atribute for music, for example I like the image and the clothes of some bands but that is not a musical consideration, perhaps in an artistical view that is acceptable but not if you want to be specific in your musical consideration... for me it is necesary to have at least a basic knowledge of musicality
I am pretty sick of people and their guitar here sugar coated minds and blabbing about Flea and Cliff Burton. Yeah sure, I respect them and I like their music, but there is a good reason they aren't on this list. This is about TECHNICALITY not who can play with a pick the fastest and hardest. However, they do belong on a different list.
@BASSMASTA264 Flea doesn't use a pick very much dude. Actually barely at all, you would know that if you listened to some of his music or saw him play.
Can't believe people look/listen to this list and think of.... John Entwistle, McCartney and .... (gulp) Gene Simmons ! Really ?! They should go back to their bedrooms and listen to music for a couple more decades.....

mmm como es solo los bajistas mas virtuosos bueno por ejemplo : en que categoria entrarian paul mc cartney y jhon entwistle bajistas que hicieron de este instrumento mas que solo un aparato de acompañamiento
Woot, Jaco is amazing. too bad he's not still with us, but he changed bass forever. Oh yeah, and stop about flea, because if you listen to Jaco, Flea has his variant of Jaco's style, and Flea wouldn't be the bass player he is without Jaco.
Kudos for not mentioning the same old players, if nothing else. I'll have to check out Fierabracci. Love Bona and I'm liking Hadrien Feraud and Janek Gwizdala these days. I think Clark should be up by Jaco just for the pioneer factor. It's great to find some of his 70's era 'Return to Forever' stuff on here.
joconmax, Myung's on there. The rest are on every other list on youtube made by kids whose entire sphere of musical influence consists solely of rock that's played on the radio.
por que hay idiotas que dicen, que los mejores bajistas son los que tocan muy rapido??? en mi opinion cliff tocaba rapido pero a lo pendejo como hay gente que no sabe de buenas composiciones musicales
