  • Didn't do good in 2008? 4th in the world sucks? A 3rd place cg was bad. Someone is clueless.

  • where is the big impact?!?!?!?

  • Comment removed

  • @Cdog971 they probably didn't play it in the run through to save their chops

  • Was this early in the season?

  • why arent the brass playingg??

  • @mrtreydog1100 My best guess is to save their chops for the show that night? Some corps avoid big impact spots like that to save their energy for their performance. Not positive though.

  • @Noverable that makes sense! ha

  • i honestly have seen this show on here at least 10 times.

  • lol i have this show set as my alarm for every day. i love this piece

  • Win!

  • @MUNCHIIIIZ how'd you do that?

  • @rikudude95 look for any ringtone site and check if they have "make your own" and just download it and send it to your phone :)

  • Hahahahahahahahaha!!!!!! They did it the way the Bugs Bunny cartoon does it!!!!

  • haha, this was at my high school, why didnt i go?

  • i like at :24 when they do the extreamly loud part, they either arent playing, my favorite part : (

  • what happened at 0:25!?

  • They designated certain spots to air and valve probably. It happened a lot when I marched. On show days especially, the staff would instruct the brass line to play certain spots and then air and valve the rest, to basically save our chops for the show

  • oh...ok thanks cause i was WTF!?

  • lol, its no problem. i even took a double take, and then i remembered what we used to do ... haha

  • lol...id so love to join after high school but i live way out in california...and the cloosest band is like 10 hours away....and ive never even heard of them

  • air and valve

  • @iplayalespaul air and valve to save the chops

  • is that the main melody theme of claire de lune at 4:55 i believe? i think it is

  • Claire de Lune begins at the start of the movement (around minute four)

  • every drum corps i've listened to so far has no idea what to play for barber of seville.. talking about percussion... those "solos" and trade offs aren't needed there. BTW, I'm writing this show right now for a hs, I'll post camp vids and maybe the finale file... If any 1 knows of some more refernces for seville and 1812 overture that are worth listening to, msg me. I like crown, this is not a bashing, just wasnt pleased with the writing for that section...in fact, my fav is crown 01 RennicksDL

  • and can someone please tell me why they got 6th place in 2007! triple crown is one of the best shows ever it will be up there with frameworks, machine, phantom 05 and spartacus and yet it got 6th place! nd the hornline nd the percussion did really good in 2008 but the guard was boring in my opinion they barely did nothing who ever wrote the choreagraphy was a really boring person lol at least compared to cavies, phantom and bd that year, nd has anybody seen the scores dis year their in 1st place

  • the zone 06

  • Its a video dude... A crappy resolution video. The audio and visual might not be lining up. And even if they are lined up right and the color guard was "off a 16th note" or whatever you said, this was VERY early in the season...

  • Did they seriously just put the end of "Somewhere" (West Side Story) at the end of Clair de Lune? Genius...

  • @HaroldandFred

2008 was a very tough year, especially with the likes of Spartacus, Samurai, and Knockout. They received 4th place and it was the first time they ever beat Cadets at finals...I'd say it was a very successful year for Crown.

  • @HaroldandFred well last year they took 2nd and their looking like favorites for world champions with their new show sec2nd chance.. soo now the fan favorite might take over and win the judges heart's

  • @svolypet

As much as I would like to think that Crown and Blue Coats deserved to place much higher that year the judging is not based on how much they like the show, but rather execution. If it were up to me, and it were based on how much I liked the shows, every year the top three would be Crown, Phantom, and Blue Coats, in no particular order. But it's a matter execution and that's why it doesn't happen that way.

  • this was at my school. i cant believe i freakin missed it. claire de lune is one of my favorite songs

  • wait actually.. i was there watching them practice. im like to the right of the camera. i think...

  • i absolutely love crown. one of my closest friends, jordan, is one of the tuba players. he wasnt in it this year cause yea but i still love these guys and im going to see them again at finals this year!!! woot woot!!! =D

  • 8:19 Drop! lol I love this corps :) that's what practice is for!

  • Wow, it's weird to hear this without the first impact. I was like why aren't they playing!?! I guess you gotta save the chops every now and then.

  • I saw these guys live at USM

  • I really like this show. Definitely one of my favorites. Well Played and Performed. Well Arranged.

Phantom's Show deserved to win, in my opinion. Had the total package.

BD had a very good show. Different. I've heard/seen that line play better though.

Cadets of recent have been very unappreciated...not to the fault of the members. If you were to listen to what they play and how they move...it's damn close to flawless. But I think the visual/conceptual design takes away a lot of the credit

  • The LHS marching band is playing this show next season. I'm so excited. :D

  • my high school band might play this next marching season. I hope we do.

  • No offense, but you'd better have a kickass band. I hate it when marching bands play corps shows and don't do them justice.

  • Always funny to see how much Corps hate being called a Band, despite the definition being any group of more than one instrumental or vocal musician (Technically an Orchestra is a band, even). Eh. Tradition I guess?

  • thats why its MARCHING BAND and not ORCHESTRAL band. The adjectives describe

  • ....? What? I don't think you understood my point at all. I said Corps don't like to be called Marching BANDS. I don't think they care if you call them marching CORPS or something but if you call them a marching BAND they have a heart attack. All I'm saying is despite what they like to be called, they ARE by definition a marching band; that being said if someone calls them that I myself also say that they would rather be called a drum corps, but I believe you misunderstood my post. Drastically.

  • A similar definition would be the Offense and Defense on a Football Team. They aren't a TEAM per-say, but the Offense Specifically.

Drum Corps is a specific type of band. Short for Drum and Bugle Corps, specifying what instruments are in it. It's like the difference in a Symphonic band, and a Concert Band....

  • Valid point. I'm just wondering the reason Corps take offense to being called a Band, I never really understood it. When someone calls me a Musician, I don't flame them and tell them "Don't call me a Musician, I'm a Trombonist," even though that is what I am in more specific terms. Same thing with a Corp being just a type of Band, so why should people take offense?

  • Well, any group of people could be considered a band. The distaste for being called a band when your in such a high level drum and bugle corps deals more so with connotations rather than literal meaning. To many of them it's very similar to calling a professional violinist a Fiddler, or something of the sort...

  • That's a good way of putting it.

The general thoughts that come with "Band" are high school bands. With DCI trying to get into the public eye and trying to grow its fan base, the members in it want to make sure people know they are in something greater than just a high school band. It's hard to explain really.

  • I Agree. lol. Being called a "corps" is probably the most acturate and accepted term. lol, of course thats what they are, but hopefully when they do reach the public more, they will be known as such.

  • Well said.

  • dang thats a long show!!

  • no duh its drum corp

  • Spank, await the flames. This ain't no HS band! It's DCI, baby.

  • What high school is this band from? They're good! Probably one of the best marching bands I've ever seen.

  • 1. Never call a drum corps a marching band. =P

    2. If you think this is the best, you have some homework to do! Youtube search some Blue Devils, Phantom Regiment, Cavaliers, and Santa Clara Vanguard ;)

  • And you better specify what years....because Crown IS one of the best and SHOULD be considered in with the likes of Phantom, BD, SCV, Cavies, and Cadets. I would put 07 and 08 Crown up against any show from anyone ever. Not saying it's better than any show, but I would put it up there with them.

(Side note, it's funny how people disregard Cadets as being good....look up their older stuff.)

  • Not one of the best, the best. Constantly underrated. It breaks my heart I never got to march, too bad I'm po'.

  • I will stick with one of the best because saying one corps is THE best is a biased opinionated statement. What about BD 86? Star 91? People would and do like those shows better than anything crown has done. Hence the ONE of the best.

Now that that is aside, yes they are CONSTANTLY getting the bs stick from DCI. Triple Crown (07) getting 6th...really....

  • This was awesome. It was so cool. They held it at my school. I hope it is here again this year.

  • Haha love how nobody holds the finale

  • I had on a Carolina Crown t shirt the other day and someone asked if I was in the band.

    I said I WISH!!

  • what is the ballad called?

  • clair de lune

  • <3 My fav part of the crowns show.

BTW, do you have a full-length rip of Constantly risking absurdity. I wanna put it on my iPod, but I don't want 2 parts.

  • I'm hoping to march there soon :)

    see yo guys there :D

  • love this show!

all i can think of is bugs bunny and elmer fudd when they play Barber of Seville!

  • i wish the video was less grainy then i would enjoy it more lol I love the crown GUARD. i'll be there one day! lol

  • i'm going to the camp in December! anyone have any pointers for an all state euphonium player?

  • just practice a lot! and try to play as loud as you can with a good sound for 20 mins a day. other pointers..

-don't wear your high band shirt or any other drum corps

-don't talk about your band or how good you are

-make sure you know how to march and make sure you can hold horn up

-and just come back to the camp and don't drop out b/c of "i know i won't make it"

    just do it

crown likes to give people a chance! picking for the hornline is not finalize until spring training

  • don't flip out!!! i did!!! everyone thought i was high or something. also, be optomistic. i wasn't and i didnt make it in (plus i was to young but that's not the point) then just play ur heart out. have fun dude!!!! :))

  • Crown won't die out. They had the same amount of people, they just opted for more horns than anything else.

  • Their clair de lune makes me pee myself.

  • i heard that crown might die off because of they spent so much money this year on the amount of people they had. so they need to find money quick or they're done =[

  • :( I hope they weren't a one time awesome show.

  • anyways..they are soo cool too. they came to my school and they shocked our whole town too

  • What do you mean by the amount of people they had?

  • they had a lot more people than usual.

  • As in people in the corps?

  • Uh yeah..

  • I didnt know if you meant staff or corps members.

  • they had 150 members, just like every other World Class drum corps

  • cool cool. i'm just saying what my band director told me. and he talked to the head guy of it because they stayed at our school.

  • they added more people the hornline. thats y they look bigger

  • yup yup. i know.

  • dude someone said mid season that the Cadets were starting a rumor that we had ran out of money

  • Spanks, i remember that shit! So dumb!

  • the limit to how many members on the field is the same for every other corps. 150 i think

  • NightBEAT is the best place to see drumcorps bros.

    frealz.

santa clara is so much better than anyone else out there in my opinion:)

  • There is definitely a championship waiting for them sometime in the near future.

  • crown is definately gonna do really well within the next few years. i smell a championship soon :-)

  • That percussion section has come far since 2006

  • Brian Kaiser? That nigga's the shit! Love him...haha

  • theres no hits, or "chords" bc there saving there chops for the show

  • AHH!

I went to the chessapeake show. It was sweet.

  • why doesnt it end with the closing chord?

  • william tell.

    sweet. :D

  • bluecoats so deserved 5th over cadets

  • I think that Crown has a much closer style of that of Star Of Indiana. I like them alot and they have a great staff and the members are fantastic, but I say that there is NO WAY that they could ever be the next Phantom; no one could. Crown is unique and they are painting their own picture.

  • Most of their staff (including brass caption head Matt Harloff, marched Star)

  • why did everyone pooface you on this 6 thumbs down dang Miguel

  • it's true. Hate all you want.

  • And by the way, what I meant was that we have different styles. So whoever took it offensive is an idiot, but it's just that phantom and crown have different styles nigga :)

  • i loved crown this year. If i didnt live on the other side of the country i want to audition for them this fall. But what can you do? IM gonna march the Oregon Crusaders again.

  • Witch, there's always room for talented and dedicated people in any hornline. Send in an audition tape and make it apparent to the staff how dedicated you are. I remember we had a guy from Holland at Star of Indiana who only sent in tapes and didn't meet the staff in person until move-in.

  • aww I see my hole in the flag line =(

  • great year Crown I'am a big fan of yours

and believe you are on your way to being the next Phantom keep up the great work . looking towards more great accomplishments in 2009.

  • I think that Crown has a much closer style of that of Star Of Indiana. I like them alot and they have a great staff and the members are fantastic, but I say that there is NO WAY that they could ever be the next Phantom; no one could. Crown is unique and they are painting their own picture.

  • I saw them in Virginia, blew me away.

  • Did they beat The Cadets at the Finals?

  • yea they beat cadets.

    crown took 4th.

    cadets 5th

  • yeah design alone should keep crown in the top 5... REALLY creative design team they have out there

  • i love this show.

they had an amazing season this year.

i was there at hickory. it was awesome live.

  • me toooo wasn't it just amazing?

  • They were absolutely amazing at world finals...as was phantom (wooo)...cavies were good as well...didn't care much for the blue devils this year...maybe just because they followed phantom regiment...

  • How did they follow Phantom Regiment? I'm not accusing anything, I just really don't understand that part of it and before I say anything I wanna make sure I understand it lol :D

I like the Blue Devils Show this year, alot of people didn't because "it didn't make sense" it wasn't supposed to...hence the name "Constantly Risking Absurdity"

  • i love overture to candide =]

  • i love Carolina Crown cant wait to try out!

  • BTW saw crown err 2 days ago on sunday at westminster..and they were tight...Everything rocked! And a Snare even fell over haha! And they beat cadets by two points cadets got 93 somthin..and crown got 95 somthin hahaha

  • Nice win at the competition at Westminster High, I love when they mach over the color guard! The crowd went wild.

  • By far the best I have ever seen Carolina Crown!

  • these guys are coming to my school tomorrow!

  • It's not gay music...

  • why do they skip the loud parts? to save their chops?

  • Probably. I dont mind much. The percussion is awesome.

  • nightbeat on sunday is gonna be killer

  • Nightbeat was my first time seeing the show in it's entirety and I loved it. Seriously pissed they got 3rd. I really felt they had won it...but I guess they can't fairly win their own compeition. ;) My boyfriend actually had Cavaliers winning it. I think BD better get scared. Crown and Cavaliers are barking up their asses and then some. ;)

  • BD winning was shit. It's a stupid show no one gets, and Cavies and Crown were equally better than BD at NightBEAT. And after seeing the scores you are right Crown and Cavies are coming for BD and finials could be interesting BUT.. DCI is FUCKING retarded and Crown will get screwed out of a championship. B/C of biased judging

  • I don't think the judges can ignore Crown too much longer. I honestly loved BD's show. But when Crown took the field and hit that first *UMPH!* impact, I actually *FELT!* it. That is what an impact is supposed be!!

  • don't forget Phantom, this year they too have an amazing show.

  • true, crowns drumline was so clean at nightbeat and almost every part of their show was hard and required more concentration for perfection than some of the stuff devils did. Caveliers did a good show too, if only that one person didnt drop the rifle.

  • I thought it was staged. It looked too clean to be a real drop to me. *shrugs*

  • PS--It's the Cavaliers...they don't drop things. ;)

  • ummm

    this is crown

    not cavies

  • No shit. We were talking about watching Crown at Nightbeat. And then we mentioned another show--BY THE CAVALIERS--where I happened to think the drop was staged. Way to read everything before you comment. Congratulations...dumbass.

  • I've seen the Cavies drop plenty of things actually.

  • Yeah...hence the wink. It was a joke.

    *shakes head*

  • You can't tell I was being sarcastic? ;) haha no hard feelings.

  • Heehee. Fair enough. =]

  • cavies guard is kick ass. after i watch their shows, it makes me wish i was a boy so i could joind their guard. =]

  • Heh. I wish I played brass or was in guard so I could do DCI at all. =/

  • Psh the blue devils owned there no the carolina crown show was amazing though all three of them are going to have a good rest of the year

  • Want to post a coherent thought or maybe a complete sentence next time?

  • I'm going to be honest. When I saw the scores I was unsure if crown deserved it (I havn't been to a show yet this season and I havn't been a big crown fan of late) but after seeing this? These kids rock!

GO CROWN GO!!!!!!! great show and execution!

    Bravo!

  • crown is so fuckin awesome

  • at :30, the horn line is supposed to be blasting, and b/c it was it for the day, they didn't

  • damn..drumline 10:00 to end is balls out!!! very nice

  • fuck yes

  • wow lothy59, you've probably never marched dci ever and you also probably haven't seen cadets show this year :D

  • are you kidding me? another moronic post about how stuff like this "isn't drum corps"... frustrating to no end! like everything else, drum corps evolves... this general style is what all top drum and bugles corps look like today. it may not look like it did 40 or 30 years ago... or even 10 years ago. but that's the reality of it... things change. roll with it. it may not be drum corps as you think of it, but it is certainly drum corps to today's audience.

  • Common, where's the cannon during 1812? You've got to have a cannon! Not a bass drum....a CANNON !!! Best music I've heard a drum corps play in probably ten years or more. Keep cleaning it up. By August it should be awesome.

  • They only won because the power to the amplifier went out so you could not hear the insightful narration over the 1812

  • Why does the hornline not play during some parts?

  • since its the end of the day before they head out to the show theyre blowing air and fingering the notes at parts so they can conserve their chops a bit more for the show later on.

  • July 12, DCI Orlando

    Crown 85.625

    Cadets 85.125

    Enough said :)

  • oh snap lol

  • hahah i was there that day they kicked ass.. hey the dude in the wheel chair works with my band ha greatest exprience of my life

  • The opening is starting to click - and can't wait to hear that opening statement at FULL VALVE again!!!! Donnie, Matt, Barry - you have done a great job bringing this corps to maturity!!! WOW WOW WOW !!!!!

SIDE NOTE - the rest of the staff has done a great job, too!!!

  • Great clip - loved Candide back in at Madison - scores there sucked.

    Bluecoats are NO MATCH!!!

Thanks to my old marching buddy Matt H. (Star 89) for calling half-valve - air during the run through. Sometimes you just need the break!! GO CROWN!!!

  • wow this is just a shmorgasborde of classical music. hahaha. Great idea for a show!!!
