My game was working fine until recently. Now it just crashes to the desktop, no matter the fix I try. I'm really getting frustrated as I want to play now with the 1.4 patch and the high res textures. My rig can definitely handle the game, as can be seen in the vids I uploaded in 2011. Anyone who can help out is most welcome. :)
when i start the game im at the main menu i go to load a save and it shows the statue of what ever say an old man, wolfs etc. but after about 1 minute of loading it crash's how about a fix for that?
@Jimmy4738 it sounds like your PC is over heating. If you keep it up, your parts are going to fry if they already arent. its probably time for an upgrade (new PC)
@Jinxxed0 Look, i know what im on about. Theres absolutely nothing wrong the the computer, ive had it for like 2 weeks and it packs 12gb ram, 3.4gz processor and a 560Ti. It ran Skyrim on ultra graphics for 40 hours without and hitch and now boom. It crashes on every steam game i run - i believe its steam. Ive used core temp to monitor the temperature and its nothing above normal or anywhere near dangerous.
@Jimmy4738 Ah, with that information, it honestly sounds like maybe your graphics cards dying they don't die right away usually, its a process and skyrim may have done it in. With me, it was Second Life. it may be something else. I doubt it's the ram or steam. Maybe you can try running a non steam game? like a free MMO if that doesn't launch then the next step would be trying the gfx card on another PC. i assume you've already tried reinstalling steam/all other steam games you play
@Jinxxed0 Yeah well my brother plays runescape so i honestly dont think thats the problem. It appears there are many other people experiencing the same problem.
The game worked perfectly out of the box for me. However, sometimes when I minimize to check online guide, then get back to Skyrim, it just shuts down and takes me to desktop :( sux.
is there a way to get my money back ??? i fucking spent all kinds of money on upgrading my video card, psu, monitor, controllers just to play this fucking game and now i cant play it because it keeps crashing when it starts??? WDF man such a lame ass fucking game. assassins creed revelation i guess ill wait for you.
@Spinnnvill No sounds in Skyrim are above 44.1KHz in sample rate, so you will not get additional frequencies from the audio by doing that. I am unable to extract the music from the game, so I can't check if it has better sample rate, but I think NOT.
They did their best to make the game take up as little space as possible.
And 44.1KHz doesn't mean crappy sound, not at all - I don't believe you could hear any difference between 44.1KHz and 96KHz if it was a regular recording.
This fix was for Win Vista/7. Unfortuantly we were unable to find a way to change the Defualt Audio Format for Windows XP. If we find it we will let you know.
This fix won't work for everyone. However, we have found that some people are using outdated video drivers. Please make sure yours are up to date.
I've added links to the driver sites in the description.
can you help i've got the game and i try to load it but after the guy says 'you walked right into that imperial ambush' it crashes, i've tried changing the sound to 16,48000 and 44100 but to no avail - im running it on win7 could that be the problem :( please reply fast!
doesnt work for me and all my gear is up to date

The important part is setting 44.1 KHz, not necessarily 16-bit (24-bit should be fine).
For those still having a CTD from the main menu or other parts of the game, you simply have a different problem.

It works, thanks for the tip! :)
However, I didn't have to go all the way down to crappy-sound - running successfully at 24-bit/96kHz (Studio Quality) ;D
It couldn't handle 24bit/192kHz though, even if supported by the audio hardware and cinema processor... (epic game deserves epic sound! ;D)
