  • I started my BD and learned the rhythms in the late '70s, from Mary Ellen Donald.

She is brillant, it ia joy to watch her in concert! Kudos to Susana Goldstein.

Ladies keep slappin' that skin! God bless your talent!

PS I started drumming in the late 80s---it aids your dance.

  • WOW!

  • erm wow

  • I love the way the particular movements of tribal bd and her elegance marry each other

  • Me too. :)

  • la adoro la adoro y la adoooooooroooooooo!! ♥

  • Si toca el derbake asi, no m magino cuando toque el arpa....

    ajajaj mentira kpa tota!!!!

y rachel, hermosa.. a ver cuando te venis a la argentina!!

  • Go, Mary Ellen, go! Çal, Çal!

  • She is so amazing

    =]~

  • Tribal fusion isnt my favorite style, but I am drawn to RB because she has such a unique stage presence. One thing tribal fusion dancers do that rubs me the wrong way is they WONT smile - rigid, robotic. I guess they do that to stand apart from the cabaret dancers with big fake Barbie smiles. RB always has this little cat-like smile, very charming and mysterious. Even her eyes dance. She looks like she LOVES what she does, and that is really the most important thing.

  • I hate fake smiles. I used to dance only cabaret and I hated having to have a smile the entire time. But it also depends on the dance, not every single belly dance piece is going to benefit from the dancer smiling the whole time. Sharon Kihara smiles a lot, but a very serious tribal fusion dance would just look strange if the dancer had this big smile on his/her face the entire time.

  • I think this is a very interesting thread because this detail, though seemingly unimportant, is actually quite important.

Coming from an authentic heritage of Turkic Tribal culture from my maternal line I can honestly say that when Middle Eastern women dance to a drum or with a daf they're taken by the music and smile and move naturally. Tribal is rooted in Folk culture which rejects anything over produced or polished like a frozen grin. In short, I couldn't agree more! lol

  • I love Rachel Brice!!! She is my inspiration! Never get tired of watching this!

  • Waooooooooooo que bella rachel, Me impresiona la señora que toca el derbake, para usted mis respetos y para la otra chica tambien Beautiful

  • you surely catches your attention.... truly a unique dancer.....something about the way she belly dances is just different...and awesome lol

  • Wouwie again, lol

  • No doubt RB is a fine dancer and artist. I love her videos of the very exotic style she does, yet this video shows the light heartedness and 'spirit' of the dance. Something I was priviledged to experience while living in the Middle East a number of years ago amongst everyday women whose grace when dancing spoke volumes...sigh
