Quite a few years ago now, I was at the Southend-on-sea airshow. They had a Vulcan there. The abiding memory for me of the whole thing was when she was banked out over the estuary and her engines were cranked right up. Though far out over the water you could hear her engines...IN YOUR CHEST. Anyone in the crowd that was just getting over bronchitis had their phlegm loosened for them that day I can tell you.
I am proud to say that I was there when the Vulcan came home and Waddington is where it should stay in my opinion. I can actually say that this whole adventure brought tears to my eyes.
Great comment, I couldn't put it better myself! :)
PS Shame she didn't display on Sunday at Waddo, but crew and crowd safety are paramount, and I hope we all appreciate that the refit of the aircraft is prone to new teething problems. You could really see the team trying their very best, and hats off to them for at least managing a dramatic nose up ground run. I wish the team all the very best for the future!!
Saw the Vulcan fly today at Waddinton Air Show. Didnt think we would see anything the way the weather was first thing in the morning. So glad it turned out sunny in the afternoon. Seeing the Vulcan flying in formation with the Lancaster was amazing.
Can't wait to see her at RAF FAIRFORD on the 12th or 13th of JULY 2008 have not seen her for 15 years. Just can't hold the tears back every time I see or read about it on the internet WELL DONE TO EVERYONE THAT HAS MADE THIS POSSIBLE. As some one said YES she should open the Olympics in 2012 none of this she is to British rubbish she is an icon of the past and present future.
Exactly, it's one of those unfortunate things you discover when you get home later and view the vid. It was very windy, and thankfully most people appreciate the limitations of camera microphones, and can listen through the noise to appreciate the beautiful sound of this aircraft! :)
Checked on the waddington web site in the week and couldn't see this listed as being there so made other arrangements for the weekend. I'm gutted that I will miss it and don't understand why they didn't promote it on there website more atleast. Shurely she's the star attraction?
And why does it make my eye's moist just watching a plane fly?
The best news in ages... permot to fly and display aurthority granted. WELL DONE to all involved in this incredibly complex return to flight. A true labour of love. I just love that howl as the Olympi spool up at about 4;55 onwards :)
I'd challenge any man not to shed tears watching this graceful old lady fly! Can't wait til Sunday to see her at Waddo! Could be floods again!!!!Got goosebumps just watching the vid.
Oh my gosh im going sunday AND.....yes i will cry and i will cry when i see the red arrows. My son will be like why are you crying mum. Hes a bit to young to understand and appricate a good plane yet. Hes stuck in the airbus a380 era.
Awesome video, still have goosebumbs from having watched it fly myself!

I wouldnt be seen near this aircraft, never mind fly in it. During its operational period, it was involved in 12 crashes, amounting in 42 deaths.

only thing that spoils this is the annoying clickety clickety click of the sewing machine type camera noise... shame really..
whittiejp 3 years ago
That noise is actually the wind blowing over the microphone.
