so you get a lot of hiss to when you plug directly into the mic input of the canon 7d? I thought I bought a bad camera.

Yes, the camera tries to boost sounds automatically when there isn't any. Basically constantly adjusting. If the Magic Lantern firmware ever comes out it will solve it.

the videomic has a hotshoe mount, so it was sitting on top of my camera for the test.
