I just saw this today on HBO.The ending sucked.Only one guy was convicted of breaking 1 LAW.They didnt even show evidence of the dead pig pit in the back.The trial was even fair.All the dang farmers dont give a S***.they just want da money like Rich snobs.

Anyone who has ever spent time with a pig knows that they are very gentle and sensitive creatures. The have a good deal of emotional complexity and are really not different from a dog in that regard. But the way they are treated would be illegal if it were happening to a dog. It's just unconscionable that there are no protections in place to protect them from such suffering.
I would disagree. I have been around farm animals my whole life. We used to farrow hogs in a pasture with plenty of space and shelter. The sows(mothers) would fight and kill other piglets. The environment would lead to more disease and without the crates the mothers would roll over or step on some of the young. They do have emotions, but they are very different from a dog. I had pet pigs! What you see is not common practice and is wrong, any good farmer will tell you that.
Did you slaughter your pigs at old age or are you killing them at the age of 5 like most small farmers? Do you REALLY consider that "good"? Cuz I don't, I think it's cruel and what gives anyone a right to do that, if they wouldn't want it done to themselves. Imagine if you had to die at the age of 20, just because someone wanted to eat you.
Some of the sows did go until old age but that depended on the animal. Most of the offspring we sold at a much younger age. It doesn't matter if the farm is big or small we raise FOOD for people, in fact each American farmer feeds 146 people. Our food supply is one of the cheapest and most abundant in the world. You have choices, so do other people. That is what makes it great! If you dont want to consume something you have options, you can choose not to, don't take the choice from someone else.

I am a vegetarian and i am quick to defend my opinion, but i just want to say thank you for not bashing the beliefs of us herbivores. its nice to see someone that can eat meat and actually not be a jerk about it. but i have to disagree in one part though, vegetable farmers could probably feed the same amount of people, and without using up as much water.
I don't know all the details around that, but to grow large amounts of vegetables most acres are heavily irrigated to grow good looking consistent crops. My point about livestock is geared more towards choice and freedom, you are all welcome to do what you want, but don't take my right to choose. Humane treatment is the standard and common practice among farmers.

don't paint all farmers as bad because of this one bad apple. 99% of farms do it right, but you don't see documentaries on that, do you? lies and negative images sell, so the media uses this to their advantage. farmers know healthy animals produce healthy food & they eat the same food you do. farmers do not abuse their animals, it cost them money and energy to do that. the bad apples need punished but don't punish all of ag for 1 bad actor.

You're a moron Elephant boy. You really are stupid and fit that category perfectly because I never said people who go to church are animal abusers. They just don't use their brains like you and murthax. You are not educated on that subject and most likely many others. Saying 99% on farms do it right clearly shows you're not educated on this subject. Killing any animal is not right for food, clothes, furniture, etc. Just stay on your leather couch getting fat and eating McDonalds.

But you know honestly, most of those farmers look like they dont have any other income but farming, so its not like they're really rich, and thats why they are just worried about the money. But I agree the ending did suck but im glad that "pete" made his point.

I think that it is fine that they are raised to be slaughtered, but they should at least be treated better. I mean, people everywhere get charged for animal cruelty for treating animals like that. It's not fair for them to be punished and these people not to be.

Anyone who has ever spent time with a pig knows that they are very gentle and sensitive creatures. The have a good deal of emotional complexity and are really not different from a dog in that regard. But the way they are treated would be illegal if it were happening to a dog. It's just unconscionable that there are no protections in place to protect them from such suffering.

I would disagree. I have been around farm animals my whole life. We used to farrow hogs in a pasture with plenty of space and shelter. The sows(mothers) would fight and kill other piglets. The environment would lead to more disease and without the crates the mothers would roll over or step on some of the young. They do have emotions, but they are very different from a dog. I had pet pigs! What you see is not common practice and is wrong, any good farmer will tell you that.

Did you slaughter your pigs at old age or are you killing them at the age of 5 like most small farmers? Do you REALLY consider that "good"? Cuz I don't, I think it's cruel and what gives anyone a right to do that, if they wouldn't want it done to themselves. Imagine if you had to die at the age of 20, just because someone wanted to eat you.

Some of the sows did go until old age but that depended on the animal. Most of the offspring we sold at a much younger age. It doesn't matter if the farm is big or small we raise FOOD for people, in fact each American farmer feeds 146 people. Our food supply is one of the cheapest and most abundant in the world. You have choices, so do other people. That is what makes it great! If you dont want to consume something you have options, you can choose not to, don't take the choice from someone else.

Thank you. I am a vegetarian and i am quick to defend my opinion, but i just want to say thank you for not bashing the beliefs of us herbivores. its nice to see someone that can eat meat and actually not be a jerk about it. but i have to disagree in one part though, vegetable farmers could probably feed the same amount of people, and without using up as much water.

I don't know all the details around that, but to grow large amounts of vegetables most acres are heavily irrigated to grow good looking consistent crops. My point about livestock is geared more towards choice and freedom, you are all welcome to do what you want, but don't take my right to choose. Humane treatment is the standard and common practice among farmers.
