Dear Lance. I'm lost for words re your playing; also the many, many comments on this beautiful Hymn. I'm looking up my trusted "Sacred Songs & Solos", 1200 Pieces. It is No. 581. I'm going to contact young Rob Charles at Swansea re this as I saw his name among many. You're a wonderful lad, Lance, who has brought hope and comfort to so many with your exceptional musical gifts. God bless you in all you do to encourage others. Charlie (Aberdeen)
When this song is playing it makes me feel like i am entering the heaven I wanted a CD where can I find one, Its a must have you are playing it so beautifulu.
I always try to play my very best to the GLORY of GOD, some Atheist always leave poor ratings of 1 no matter how beautiful the music is; it's just their nature to always HATE Christians and what we do to GLORIFY the NAME of JESUS... So it is better it is off, you can rate my music in your heart. Lance †
@organpipe8 Unfortunately you're exactly right, people can be cruel in the most childish ways. And I just wanted to say, though I don't necessarily follow your faith, your videos are excellent. I find hymns to be beautiful pieces, and some of the best pianists are those who play for church.
The hymn itself is a powerful song that makes one reach for God and allows us all to feel redemption washing over us. The ability you have to couple it with the soul shaking sounds of an organ as artfully as you have is truly astounding. Thank you and may God bless you all the days of your life.
I had a horrible full moon week at work this week. I felt like I was on the listing Titanic and this is so beautiful, it reallly soothed my soul. I like it on the organ best.
WOW, MY GRANDMA can play this song, she lpay the organ at church, but she cant play this well. Thank you for this post, and prais the LORD EVERYONE. †
This song represents unity: the unity of the band on the Titanic, refusing to leave one another. Their being friends to the end, and facing the uncertain end together. This is how the world should be. Whether you are Christian, Buddhist, Islamic, Jewish, or Atheistic, we should all live in peace, and face the unknown future together instead of waging wars "in the name of God," which in fact all religion discourages. I know this will probably never happen, but still, it would be nice.
Before my dad died, he was interested in the Titanic. One of his favorite Titanic movies was the one from 1953. It was this hymn that was performed at his funeral. Thank you for playing this hymn!
This is a traditional hymn of the Reformed Church of France. It's called "Plus près de Toi, mon Dieu" and is sung by Catholics and Protestants alike. It's a beautiful and meaningful anthem.
I am a high school student, and I have been playing organ on and off since i was tall enough to reach the pedals. Although I am not very good yet, I enjoy the power of the organ. You have a nice style and I like it. Keep up the good work.
I'd love to be able to play this on my stereo system. Have you recorded this on any other media, or is there a downloaded version available to purchase?
I've heard many renditions of this hymn, and this is certainly the best.
Thank you - you can try the FREE download version of DVD Video Soft and then burn to your own CD like so many of my Subscribers tell me they do. I've tried it and it works great.
I occasionally play this lovely hymn (tuba part) in a military band during wreath laying, and curiously written in the key of concert Gb major.. I think for a good working of the ears with intonation and familiarisation of 'obscure' keys reading. I play a 'Johannus 250' organ in my local church, and think the one you performed on has very similar tones to it. I'll use this tune as a quiet voluntary during communion, as I think it should be heard more often..
I enjoy playing my violin along with you on this. I notice that the song is written in the key of G but some folks play it in F such as yourself. The fact that you modulated to G is interesting and is an easy transition on the violin. I play violin for folks in the nursing homes and retirement centers. Would be interesting if some way you could email me a copy of just the sound track.
You're welcome - sorry I do not email anything to anyone however, my many subscribers download their own sound tracks using something called DVD Video Soft, it is FREE to download and use and you can make your own sound tracks. God Bless †
We sang this in Choir once and strangley there more smiles than tears. I was shocked to see this but by their reaction I knew we did a good job. I was glad to see that we made their day brighter. Never forget that Day. Wish this song was played more often in church.
This is a very emotional hymn. It can bring tears to my eyes. I like this tempo that you have taken. I like this brisk, march-like tempo. Thank you for a delightful reading of a great hymn of the church.
A beautiful old hymn that I first heard on my cousin's Edison grammophone. It was not played or sung during the sinking of the Titanic. That's a nice "old wives' tale", but has been disproved by subsequent scholarly research. That doesn't make it any less of a wonderful old hymn though. Beautifully played here by "organpipe8".
@Clarendonearl I'm dying to know what "scholarly research" could determine which song was briefly played on deck of a sinking ship with no other witnesses than the surviving passengers themselves. I really love your work; I could listen to these hymns all day! I was just wondering if you'd consider playing this hymn to the tune of Horbury with which this hymn usually is associated in the UK.

organpipe8 -- This is most beautiful organ version of Nearer I have ever heard. Believe me, sir, it was not just a rich tone and pedal stops that brought out the Reverence. YOU did as well. Thank you for these great moments and I look forward to viewing your other posts. God Bless you and may your talent reach many others.
Wow, you knocked my socks off with that. Beautifully played AND recorded.
I couldn't comment on your "Sleepers Awake" hymn, so I'll say it here: that is REALLY beautiful. What a great thing this has been, finding your recordings on YouTube. Thanks for playing for us!
I am a self thought organist but no where close to your wizardry. Every time I listen to your renditions, I feel like crying. My dream is to play as well as you do before I die.
Hi there, im sorry to have to correct you but........only Titanic's band played Nearer My God To Thee everone else was in panic. Wally Heartly, the band leader, stood there while everone else was in panic and played this beautiful song, which he had chosen for his own funeral.

Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide;
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, oh, abide with me.
Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes;
Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies;
Heav’n’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee;
In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.--Beautiful song. I'm a younger guy, but these hymns speak so much. They're timeless truths. God Bless.

Super. Reminded me of the first Titanic film, the black and white one with Clifton Webb and Barbara Stanwick in the leads.

organpipe8 -- This is most beautiful organ version of Nearer I have ever heard.

I could listen to this over and over.
Well, I'm here again, so I guess I do! LOL.
God bless you Lance.
