I recently started waching the show, and just finished season one. TORCHWOOD IS FUCKING AMAZING! During this whole episode, I was completely on the edge of my seat. When Jack told Jack to kiss Nancy, I was literally like "DAMN IT! Why are you cock-blocking yourself?!" And then, they FINALLY KISSED.
I'm not going to lie, I've never been a big Doctor Who fan (*prepares to get pelted with rotten tomatoes*), but Torchwood is AMAZING, and my new obsession! <3
This scene literally changed my life. This was the first time I ever saw two guys kissing, and after a moment I looked at my screen and went, "...That's hot." (I said hot because I'd missed everything before this. First time I watched it all the way through, I cried my face off. T^T) And thus my life plunged into yaoi and I lived happily ever after! ;w;

I love the look on the original Jack's face. The feelings, the passion. His face as they're dancing says: "I'm living in the moment. I don't want this to end." His kiss says: "I love you." His look as the Captain leaves says: "I don't want to let you go; I don't want you to leave me but I know it's the right thing."

what i love about this scene is the fact that it's set abck in a time when gay people weren't accepted in society.... and you can just feel the tension of all those people around the edge looking at them :)

@TheMysteriousMrJ As far as I can tell, we don't know the faux Captain Jack's real name, and he stole the real Captain's name because, well, he dies and therefore isn't using it anymore, and if you watch Torchwood or Doctor Who (especially Doctor Who) you know that Jack is (or was) a con man. So maybe he needed the fake name for that.

@drewthedirector Its Tourchwood - a secret defence of the realm organisation set up by Queen Victoria after her encounter with Doctor Who in Scotland - Jack is a imortal who runs the organisation that uses alian technology and is based on a time/space rift located in Cardif - Wales - Jack is Bi - its not a gay sci fi but it handles sexual diversity in a chilled out way.

I hate it, when in our Indian shows, gay people are shown to be stupid, comical fools... the makers need to watch this and understand that this is the normal behavior and the public needs to know that isn't something to make fun of!!!

Beautiful and heart-wrenching because that soldier's name is Harkness, and he will soon die in battle. Capt Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) knows this, as it is history to him, and he takes the name as his own, to honor him.
Just an incredible moment in story-telling.

There, Jack meets the Captain whose name he stole years ago but has never truly thought of as a person. He knows the man is due to die soon and encourages him to make the most of the time he has left. He doesn't understand why he keeps blowing off his girlfriend to hang out at the dance just before he goes back into the war. It becomes apparent...

A few choice words from 21st Century Jack plus the lucky fact that 40s Jack is attracted to him, and he finds the courage to be himself, just as 21st Century Jack goes back to our time.

what i can't believe is all this bullshit that this one scene has started for the love of god this is the year 2010, we have developed the same perspective for homosexuality as we had for african americans in the 60's or mexicans in the 60's the same for radicals and socialists during the red scare..i'm gay and i look at the comments and am disgusted by all the hate, if there is a god then he must be crying by all the hate his children have for one another, we're the human race so why the hate?
