Boerbulls were bread like rodeshian ridgebacks to hunt Lions. They were bread to be fearless. But like all Mastiff breeds they can be gentle giants. But they must be trained. Boerbulls do not look like Pit Bulls. Pit bulls max out maybe at 80 lbs. Boerbulls are much larger.

@Tunknatar Yes kind of. Boerboels are more muscled and compact. But they are still similar dogs really. I've seen plenty of big brown mastiff dogs fight pit bulls and such and i have to say, they dont stand a chance, they just give up after a while.

Dog fighting is split into weight divisions, meaning that pits are only pound for pound the hardest dog because they dont weigh alot meaning that they fight other small dogs like staffs and stuff.. Something like a Tosa Inu or a Presa Canario, even a BB will most likley tear up a Pit!

Boerboel are also very fine dogs. We have a puppy at home now;) They are very loyal, just as pit bull and are just as good with kids as the pit bull. But it looks scaaary of course;)

I have boerboel/ridgeback cross,the most soft-hearted,trained little guy,he is a dedicated gurad dog,I trained him for 100 hours plus,even without training he is perfect except if fence is disturbed,even then I doubt he would hurt anyone he is very emotional and clever
a pit put my dog in the hospital, and my ridgeback never even attempted to bite it back. the difference being ridgebacks and boerboels are breed to work in groups and pits are not.. most of us know what pits were breed for. i would feel much more comfortable with a BB than a pit.

I am from Africa Zimbabwe and i hav a boerbull he is gorgeous and friendly to people he knows. their behavior comes down to how the owner raised it and trained it.
by the way im in ontario and pitbulls are banned, but boerboels and completely legal and i have talked to a bunch of breeders.
