I can understand people who do not wish to keep 30-40 herb & spice dried varieties in the kitchen, but at least 20 are basic. On vacation recently, I used only salt & pepper & a ready made vinaigrette, & it was so difficult! I saw so clearly how much a good spice collection is needed in the kitchen. My mother took used baby food jars for my brother & painted them & made her own spice collection. One of them was marked "opium" & I asked her & she said that was a joke but, they were beatniks!
I only knew this bottled in the USA & had to move to Europe to learn it really should be made as you do here. I would switch the sugar for honey or a little jelly or jam & I'd also put in a drop of mustard, & a little tarragon & dill, but otherwise, we are quite in agreement. Even some lemon juice, but you have the basic here, & I use an old mustard or jam jar to mix this and store it in, you are right, keeps a while and is so handy. If people don't have these basic herbs, well . . .
@pastryparrot1 My mother is still alive, is probably mentally ill, I dunno, and I have given her a huge amount of money and support over the years, often against my better judgment, but I will say one thing, she was never boring! We did what could be called "soul food," cooking cheap stuff en famille. One day, she made us take off our footwear and paint on the walls with our toes! Another day, it was cutting paper dolls. Too many amphetamines, ha ha ha ha ha! xo
@pastryparrot1 Having zany parents was both a blessing and a curse. I have a friend who always resented his square parents who prepaid everything and planned -- when they died, he didn't have a care in the world, and he inherited! I remember his parents and yeah they were square but I also recall very nice. My parents used to start doing the tango in the middle of intersections and I'd have to tell the police they were just goofing around! My mother was Morticia, my father, Gomez.
I was just telling my husband last night that I wanted to start making homemade dressing - We had pulled a new bottle of honey mustard out of the pantry and it looked like it had something brown floating around in it. I ended up pouring the whole thing out :( I'm now heading over to your site to see if you have a honey mtd recipe - thank you! :)
Mary Ann, you know this is a great video! Not only is Italian dressing one of my personal favorites, but there is NOTHING that beats freshly made food items. You've encouraged me to give this a try! Have a great week!
@oasisfan1994 I am not sure how long you could keep this with fresh herbs, so I do not know. If you were making a smaller amount - one you would finish within the week - then no problem. Thank you for coming by!
This looks delicious, i am really gonna have to make this!

great dressing! i love all the herbs you put in it, do you store it in that measuring cup or do you put it in something else?
dignansgirl 4 months ago
@dignansgirl I put it in a jar with a lid and refrigerate it. It will need a good shake before each use so you need a lid. Thanks for watching!
