No one is blameless as regards Rwanda. Save for Dallaire. He deserves great honor and respect for going into a horrible situation with an inadequate force and with his hands and feet tied and his teeth pulled by the rules of engagement given him by his superiors. Between those factors and the amount of lives that he saved, he ranks among some of the greatest generals in human history. This man is the Belisarius of peacekeeping.
@Zimmermanhound - The people who served under him would stand behind him as proud Canadians, Americans, and Brits. You do not know, what you were not there to witness. You do not understand what the UN forces, AND the people went through. You need to reserve your judgement and thank those individuals that have made your life possible.
Fighting with one arm behind your back is one thing, this man went into Rwanda with both arms tied and his teeth pulled. The reaction from outside Rwanda to the genocide was a shameful display of cowardice and dithering. Plenty could have been done, troops could have been sent, diplomatic pressure could have been applied, none of this happened. This man did his best in the worst imaginable situation and deserves much respect. legend.
This General is a moron. His argument is that if the west do not send intervention forces to the third world, we, that are the west, are racist.. Look what this guy says. What this guy do is to use post-colonialist arguments to justify neo-conservatism. This guy is a nut. If we really wanted to stop all the problems, the west need to run the world (pretty much). Thank God for multiculturalism, now more and more people wakes up that cultural, economical and political globalization is wrong.
You obviously don't understand the issue very well, Gen Dallaire did everything in his power to save the lives of innocent Rwandan's, western powers tried their absolute best to not go into Rwanda, because of racist and stereotypical views on African conflict. The west knew what was going on and didn't care enough to do anything about it. People in Rwanda see Gen. Dallaire as a hero. He does not say everyone is racist, he simply says that the lack of response was due to it
@ZimmermanHound First he didn't say anything about the US being racist he was refering to the Belgians and French. And whatever he says about the US is because we actually rejeted the meaning of the word genocide and said "no what is happening in Rwanda is demoside and is not or problem". Second, this Lt. General should be respected just because having to carry with all this weight for so long when he didn't have to. Be mature enough to do that
@09phanton I do not see how it racism is call a genocide something else. Racism is about rejection of egalitarian rule of law. My view is that the west never, and that include, Rwanda, should be involved. What the third world do is non of our business. When we are involved we only lay ground for new conflicts. It better to stay away and protect our borders. That is our business.

@ZimmermanHound I think you must forget he was in the middle of an atrocity that was not getting the attention it should have. I defy you to be in the middle of 100 days of slaughter and not think the West has forsaken you when you can't anyone to listen to you, like he did. As a peacekeeper he was not there to enforce 'neoconservatism'.
@Trund27 Do you know what neo-conservatism means? It means international intervention. It should not be up to UN or USA to upkeep international law. Sure, I feel sorry for all those people killed in Rwanda, but is sure as hell not our problem and any involvement in other countries create new or deepens old problems. I rejects this post-colonial idea of "upkeeping law" in the third world. It is just racism. Africa need to solve their own problems - its not up to us.
@ZimmermanHound = Your a disgrace to the human race. Any rational soldier would serve under Gen.Dallaire. He is a legend for his courage, and humility following his return. Your a sick fucking person who should be sent to Darfur with a christian Cross exposed on your chest, and will see how quick you shit your self before the janjaweed slice you to pieces. Sick fucking coward.
@TicinoParadise Gen. Dallaire is a neo-conservative thug and we should stay out of the third world. It is not our business what people do in their own countries. The west should stay away from the third world. The reason why we have problem with international muslim terrorism is because the west take parts in war on lands that do not belong to them. The west should close their borders and trade with countries not bomb them or take part in their internal politics.
i feel ashamed of everyone who knew about this and didnt help. If this was happening right now I would be one of the first people to go and help, its pretty sad how some people have no humanity what so ever
@fijianmc1 it did happen, the genocide in Darfur, the U.S did the same thing trying to deny it being genocide. Check out the documentary "The Devil Came on Horseback" its history repeating itself.
