i love mike oldfields latest album music of the spheres but what other albums are out their that sound like it?? ive downloaded the tron legacy soundtrack cause thats pretty epic but what else should i go for??? please someone help me! ps. not jenkins
this is great, it is kind of more like an animated album cover than a music video, and I think that is a great idea and way to go with online music... great track also.... would be cool too see some classic album covers brought to life in animation....
Tutto è iniziato con Tubular Bells e ora... dopo The Songs of Distant Earth, non posso ancora credere che Music of the Spheres sia così bello.
No wonder if you do. Oldfield does not have the training / knowledge to write for a symphony orchestra and therefore worked with Jenkins on the orchestration.
@Synrikeman Well I guess it's not exactly in symphonic format, but of course a bit like "classical music with rock instruments" if you like.
I know that Oldfield listened to classical music in his youth so there certainly is a classical influence. I believe he had many of the musical ideas of Tubular Bells already for many years until he then finally got the chance to actually record the whole album.
You can find some interviews at tubular dot net for example.
One of the strengths of this albumn is how the whole cd is more of an organic whole, rather than being all seperate tracks with no connection (as often happens with albumns nowadays).
Thats why i like it. Some of his older albumns are also like this. good stuff.
My site was not false. If you know Mr. Oldfield, I apologize for insulting your friend's album. Otherwise, don't take my opinion personally. Choose, instead, to listen to better music. Aber beklecker nicht das Sofa, Sofa!
I have to kind of agree, and disagree. As a long time oldfield fan, I think it's one of his most accomplished works ever. But as a long time composer (who actually was inspired by oldfield early on), I think it's a little bit ill-disciplined and purely emotional at times. Oldfield is a master of playing from the heart, and for that I will always love him. But in a work like this, you have to play from the head at least 35 - 45% of the time, which he clearly is not. :/ Anyway. I still like it.
it truly is a great album, he amazes me every time he comes out with a new album...he is truly gifted, and we would be poorer for not having mike in our lives....long may he live on...love you mikeand all you stand for...
cmpared to tubular bells and portsmouth and all the other classics, it think mike oldfield hasnt put as much into this one. its still alright i guess but not as powerful

Thanks for the nice comments. And yes, tubular net is a good source for information as they have both the official info and all the rumours and fan discussions etc.
I made the video in Asymetrix Web 3D. It's kind of "3D modelling for dummies". And T-Belle: It's nice to see you always so passionate about all Oldfieldian things. :) My tubular net username is actually in my YouTube channel icon.
I like Mike Oldfield -- Tubular Bells was magnificent -- but I'm not particularly a fan of this video.

Its clear, you wrote on the false site. This is a track from Mike oldfield, so that what you have written does not work in ANY way...
As i read this i was first shocked...but then the only logical answer is, that you choose the wrong field to put a text for an other artist....
Be aware where and what you wrote.......in germany we call that what you write here: absolut deplaziert und lächerlich!!! :)

I agree somewhat. There are a few tracks on this album that are purely boring.
That being said, I think it's his best album in a decade or more...

It has something to do with the bible I think because it sounds like a part of the Genesis
"terra autem erat inanis et vacua et tenebrae super faciem abyssi (erant) et spiritus Dei ferebatur super aquas"
which means
"the earth however was void and empty and darkness was over the face of the deep and the spirit of God moved over the waters."

If this a taste of things to come, surely this a fanastic step back to mikes creativity.
in remembrance of the originality of tubular bells, ommadawn etc. He is taking a step upwards to possibly being a classical composer.
Mike enjoy as the public will love it..

I've been waiting for something this good from Oldfield for ages, funny how you don't lose the faith with him.
