Cool Video, thanks for posting I am working on my own 1979 Ranger 1780V with an evinrude 115. I inherrited it from my dad when he died. I was raised on this boat and it is older than I am. A bunch of uncles and other family members used it over the years and have it a fubar mess so I will eventually have to overhaul the whole thing but I am working it in pieces. How much did your total restoration cost?
Hey, I am 15 and I found a passion for Rebuilding Old bass Boats, I have a 1975 Ankor Craft Tri-Hull Bass Boat, I was just wondering how much is that Bondoo stuff? and what Paint was that? I am not sure what paint to use on Fiberglass, and get the most mileage out of it. Thanks for the video, and that is A great song!
bondo is pretty cheap about $5.00/can the paint is interlux. kinda pricey but worth it. Dont use spray paint make sure you use a good marine grade paint! also have fun take your time and do a good job. The prep work is the most important so make sure that you do a good job bondoing sanding and all that pre paint working!
G/L post up your pics when you get a project started!
i like the boat..think it looks pretty good really..someones just pissed cause they fish an 8' bass buggy..a boats a boat..beats the snot outta sitting on the bank watching the guys on the boats burn em up while you cant even get a bite..restored a few boats myself.. i like the tsc tractor and trailer paint..thin it down and spray it with an airgun..fan some boat flake in and it looks awesome..anytime you can make money on a simple repair job is a plus in my book
Thanks for the positive feed back! That paint at TSC.... doesn't fade out or get washed away? I fish in brackish water and a bay so i see a lot of paint look like crap after about a year of use when its introduced to salt water.
Im happy to see anyone restoring an old boat....I think you did a good job..There is alot of work in restoring a boat im doing a bass tracker now....looks good in the end...
I also got the indoor outdoor carpet from Home Depot. I did glue it down. There is a trick to it. You can't use too much glue when gluing it down because it will seep through the carpet. Also, when you use that paint, take a roller to apply it and go back over it with a paint brush.
great job man. BEAR865 how many boat restors have you done!!?? say you did 50 and they are looking great DOUBT your first one looked great, good or even as good as this guys not saying this is his first but he looks like a do it yourselfer and i give him credit for not waisting money in having a shop to charge him around 1-3grand instead he probably spent around 5-700 and saved money fliped it and did great..
u did a grate job im hoping to do thiss well on mine even tho i think tha bear is a jerk that needs jesus i do agree with painting it befor puttin the carpet in lol, but grate jobe in the end i like it
Nice job dude, im in florida and was in the same process when the apt. complex had it towed. Did the paint turn out up close as good as it looks from the video?
I used whats called INTERLUX boat pait. You can get it at a place that sells boat accessories. there are a TON of different colors to choose from. but if you use a brush and a roller like i did then make sure that you put it on thick and then brush it a couple times. as it dries the streaks come out and whats left is a nice brush free glossy finish.
um for a cheap resto, its pretty good. and btw. the boat was finished when i sold it. i was running late to work. so before you all go dissing me, show me your videos because i looked all over on here for some but couldn't find any. if you dont like it keep you mouth shut!
restoration sucked. give me a break... replaced the carpet and painted a bit but didn't install any guages or back compartment covers... you paid $300 dollars for the boat before the so called "restoration"... i wouldnt have paid $300 dollars for it after you were done, and i dont even want to know what kind of a dumbass dished out $2500 for it... putting in carpet and paint and giving it a lame-ass name doesnt make it a restoration... i honestly feel sorry for you...
My boat doesnt need restoring. If it did i would look alot better than that. Come on man all you did was do a half ass paint job in ugly colors and put carpet in it. Oh I forgot to mention your cheap compartments you bought from boaters world. There is nothing good about this restoration. Woop de do you bondoed a flat surface and sanded it down. A five year old could do that. Ive seen plenty of restored bass boats that were restored and look alot better than that. Did you check the transom?
Just kiddin I agree that Ranger is the best out there bar none. Sad that they filed bankruptcy. I wish they would come off there prices some and I would buy a new one.
Not exactly. Ranger is owned by a company called genmar. They own Champion, stratos, triumph, fourwinns, and many many other boat brands that sell good enough for them to survive. They're boats are expensive, except stratos, but people still buy them. They ain't bankrupt.
the transom is as strong as any new boats transom. this this is a diamond in the rough. I paid 300 for it, in worse condition then it was in and flipped it and sold it for 2500. this doesn't happen too ofter. i dont really care what you think. this was posted so i could sell it. BTW, i dont see any of your boat restoration vids.....
@BEAR865 hater ,,you suck the man is proud of his work and,,and it looks good and I bet he appreciates his boat more then if he would have bought it like that
anyone who thinks this boat is shit should put up a video showing themselves painting high gloss paint as smooth as this guy. Nice job, my grandfather use to paint trucks with a brush, and if done right as shown here its just as smooth as dome with spray.
Nice video screw all haters!

I picked up the boat for 300. dropped another 300 on materials, guages, seats, and live well covers. then about 150 on parts for the boat.
Total about 750 or so.
