i have the Gigabyte overclocked edition with 740mhz core clock 1700 mzh shader clock and 1600 mhz memory. 40-42 C in idle and 64 C max while playing, never got above that. Works fine for me so far.
Thank you all for warning messages :P .D But its fine, really. This model was Gigabyte revision 1, i gave it to my bro and lowered clocks a little (not 85°C anymore..rather 70-75) and bought myself Gigabyte revision 2...lower temps (70°Cmax but i get artifacts if wanna reach those speeds with this one and also on 1.25V.
At this point if I were you, I'd save my money and wait for the next generation of nVidia cards. They always release budget ones with the expensive ones anyway so you shouldn't have to worry too much. As for your current card, It's not too special, and neither are 250s. If you want a 200 series card get the 285 or higher.
a umm i need to know ok like you know how a video card can be to powerfull for your mother bord or what ever like it's called the watts or what ever ok how do you know if you can put a video card in a computer with out it not working plz tell me if you know
The video card should have a list of requirements your computer needs to run it.
If it says 480Watts open your computer and look at the power supply. If it's under 480Watts, chances are you're going to need a new one. Sometimes the Amperage the power supply is rated for can be too low but it's not as big of a deal.
Just make sure you have fairly nice RAM and a fairly fast CPU.
Your CPU is fine don't listen to sp4wners. Just make sure your FSB (Front Side Bus) speed is around 1000MHz-1600MHz to prevent bottle-necking. You may need more RAM too, get 2GB running at 800MHz or more depending on whether your mother board can handle faster RAM speeds. Other than that I'm sure your PCI slot is fine even if it's not 2.0 it's still probably x16 which is fine.
No, no, no...superclocked is just overclocked, "superclocked" is just the word they use to make it sound...well..."super". And overclocking is just pushing it's timings and speeds to the limits. I hope this explains it to you enough. :)
haha how much was this? i got my 9800 gt for 130 dollars at best buy and i superclocked it my self hahahahaha i get even more performance for less cash.anyways what gtx did u get?
but doesnt only less than 4 gigs of ram show up in 32? idk yea it doesnt seem worth it to upgrade, but maybe i will if i get the rampage 2 motherboard
bad ass card I got them also cant wait to build my first system tomorrow NZXT Tempest Air Flow King mid tower case OCZ GameXStream 700 watt power supply EVGA 750i SLI MotherBoard 2, EVGA 9800gt superclocked edition GC Intel core 2 Quad Q9550 processor 4 Gigs Corsair Dominator ddr2 1066 Ram SamSung SpinPoint F1 1TB hard drive Rosewill RCX cpu cooler SamSung 22x DVD drive XP 64bit Operating System 3, 19" Proview monitors
i have this same card but, it does run dangerously hot, when playing crysis like 58 or 60 degrees celsius, but when playing cod this card runs anywhere from 120 to 280 frames a second i am not kidding and will make a vid to prove it i love this card
The whole 9 series is just the 8 series with a die shrink, overclocking, and a new sticker- by Nvidia. The 200 series will be the new cards by Nvidia, but I would recommend waiting until the price drops a bit on those, just get a 9800 GT for now.
Ya get riva tuner and pick up the fan speed to maybe 50% or however much noise you can tolerate. 2 of these in sli or great. I just picked up my 2nd one on newegg for about $110 =D
i like it like you say though gets a liiitttllle hot but so was my 88-- that thing was like a damn space heater lol it would get up to about 71*c loaded so it scared the shit out of me this one is better i like it im actuly going to get another one and sli it :)
Lol yeah, I bought a BFG 9800gt oc+ and with riva tuner I found the stock fan speeds were at 30% easy fix, I keep mine at 40% when idle videos, or what ever, and when i'm playing games 100% and it's never been over 48 celcius even at load with a bit of over clocking.
he yall, i acutally own one of these, and it is real good card. it does get hot, but if you use Percision and crank the fan up, it will run just smooth. im probalby gonna SLI two of these and make my system fly. so if you have any questions about this card, message me and ill answer them for you.
do u think is should get this it all i can affort with a new psu but my mobo is not pci 2.0 but thats not much of a problem but im getting it for christmas would it be obsolete by then ? i have a 8600gt now and i hate it dosent run that good
i would but there is stuff holding me back includeing money in general a better psu a cpu that wount bottleneck my gpu and a mobo with pci 2.0 so all in all a brand new computer

haha the 9800 GT doesnt really run that hot for me...runs at like 40-58 degree celsius thats like 120 farenheit - 140 farenheit? anyway...the 9800 GT is a good card and yeah not much difference between 8800 GT except its smaller and runs kinda cooler than the 8800 GT
Mine ran (Idled) at about 60-65 degrees C. That's too hot. And I shouldn't have to adjust the fan speed with nTune because making the fan run at 75% constantly will cause it to quickly fatigue and break.
well if the 9800GT runs hot, the GTX+ is gonna run hotter. same gpu just more powerful with more stream processors etc... 9800GT should be cooler than the 8800GT. if it is not then you got a defective card lawl
yeah im lucky i got a 8800GT with hynix memory rated at 1.3 with not the stupid 1slot fan it smokes my brothers 9800GTX on the same system by 6-7fps on every game on crysis on 2-3 :S
Unless something is very wrong with his card even an overclocked 8800GT should not be beating a 9800GTX. If you are testing them both in the same computer, are you testing on fresh installs? If not, are you at least running driver cleaner pro in between installing each card and running it properly? You can look at benchies across the web, there is min. 15% difference among those cards. Did you maybe just write in the wrong name?
I don't know why the guy who said "nope" got a minus one from someone, I thumbs-up'd him to 0. The 9800GT is NOT better than the 4850. So why show disapproval for someone telling the truth? I don't understand people sometimes.
for people who don't want to spend money on like 4 other parts to make their computers compatible the 8800 isn't bad. not to mention thoes cost like $400-500
Shut the fuck up! The 8800GT is more expensive and is not as overclock-able. Idiots that know little about computers post these idiotic comments just because they have this card. Go and fuck yourselves.
Yes. I'm aware of it, but what exactly i meant asking about the ram speed is in what circumstances you have based to reach this conclusion of 800Mhz at least.
Well the RAM the computer had that I tried this card in, was 400Mhz (Lame) and it made almost no difference in game fps. I am assuming that sense 800 is a little better than average today it should provide enough speed/bandwidth. you could always get faster RAM than that if you are too worried.
i have the Gigabyte overclocked edition with 740mhz core clock 1700 mzh shader clock and 1600 mhz memory. 40-42 C in idle and 64 C max while playing, never got above that. Works fine for me so far.

well RAM speed and even CPU speed determine if your card will get bottlenecked or not. the faster the speeds the less bottlenecking.

Yes. I'm aware of it, but what exactly i meant asking about the ram speed is in what circumstances you have based to reach this conclusion of 800Mhz at least.
Thx

Well the RAM the computer had that I tried this card in, was 400Mhz (Lame) and it made almost no difference in game fps. I am assuming that sense 800 is a little better than average today it should provide enough speed/bandwidth. you could always get faster RAM than that if you are too worried.
