This is weird. Saved this to 'somewhere'? on my pc - hadn't thought about it in ages, but lately woken up with it playing in my head, dunno why. Had bad news today- and knew i needed to listen to this song. Two brief searches and found it. Comfort and Joy.
This is absolutely beautiful. @Edman910 That's literally exactly where I heard this for the first time (wasn't alive in the 70's) and I now have it on repeat. I'm worried I might over-play it
Great to hear this again for the first time since about 1974! An old friend of mine was his cousin, and later band-mate in Metro, and we visited Duncan sometimes, and listened to the album on his hi-fi soon after its release. Sad to hear this talented person passed away.
the great duncan brown such a shame he was not the star he should have been his music was magic and i am so pleased his olf friend and band mate peter goswin is still going strong check out nuevo great music
Seems like this song has been stirring memories for a lot of people.
I have little holes in my recall, resulting from a brain haemhorrage a few years back. This song has helped me recapture some missing weeks in the latter part of 1972
hi..there is still beauty and romance in the world..we just forget how to see it..that`s why music is so important..i remember singing this song walking down goldthorn hill in wolves just having heard it. on the radio...brilliant..hopefully the single is stil in my daughter`s collection..i gave her a lot of my vinyl..happily she appreciates the old as well as the new..
Great! Was played on my local radio station just this morning (29/12/2010) . First time i heard it broadcast for years. I bought the album in 73, still have it, much the worse for many, many playings. Ordered a re-mastered cd from Amazon today!
Unique. Heard it on BBC Radio 2 at about 6:00am (our wake up call). Never feeling very good first thing normally, this was all the lift I needed. Joyous.
Superb. Yet another very talented artist who was taken from us too soon. Several posters have said this is timeless, and I couldn't agree more. Thanks for posting it.
I bought another song of his before this was ever released, "Reserrection Joe", with "The final Assylum" on the B side. I thought then that he was going to be a big name in music. Perhaps in another world........
Just been listening to an old cassette tape (remember them?) and heard a snippet of this recorded from an old radio broadcast. Was delighted to hear it in its entirety. Lovely stuff.
I bought this as a single when it was released in 1972. It's always been one of my favourite ever songs. I have requested it many times on radio and also had it as my pick for a compilation CD at work when I was a postman. So sad when I read of Duncan's death but so pleased to find this on here. Thanks Rod.
heard this for the first time yesterday what a song very romantic !! its the kinda song you want to dance to with someone you love and look deep into their eyes wow !
I finally found it. This song has had a subliminal influence on all my stuff since I first heard it but I couldn't quite remember who it was until now. I like it cus it is devoid of most seventies clichés. I remember the TOTP performance too. Magic.
bunchie1966 this song has made it through the years on merit ask any one in 30 years about the manufactured garbage (generalisation as there are some good songs out there) that is out there at the moment and they will say "who or what" because it is a fad that will pass as fast as it arrived... This is one of my favorite songs of all time. I first heard it when I was 24 and it made my jaw drop open. Every time I play it for someone they're floored by how beautiful it is.
I met Duncan in a pub just after this was a hit - it still lifts my soul every time I hear it.. Sublime.. We ended up forming Metro together, David Bowie covered our first single (Criminal World) on Let's Dance.. And that was just the beginning.. In case you're curious, I have a new band called Nuevo and you can hear our first album "Sunset Rise" on our website.. So the journey continues, still looking for Terra Nova.. :)) Peter Godwin
Thank you Malbert24 for your kind words! If you go to the website for Nuevo, you will see the video of an old Peter Godwin song that did well for me in the US, Baby's In The Mountains- the girl in this video is Vya Negromonte a Brazilian actress who I believe had quite a big career afterwards on TV in Brazil! Hope you enjoy Nuevo..
Hi Peter, Great to hear you have a new band! Remember those good-old-days practicing with Metro, in Florian Pilkington Miksa's pad. Duncan blew me away with this one, and "Criminal World" was a WOW!...All my blessings to you and your new band. BTW. Sean Lyon's latest "Sharpie" composition is well cool.
Hi Alastair, "There are more things in heaven and earth".. Woke up this morning after a dream that I met Florian, who I haven't see for 15 years, let alone dreamt of.. And now this memory surfaces.. Thanks for your great comment on "Skin" by Nuevo on my channel- it's so appreciated. Good to hear from you through the mists of time.. :) All the best, Peter
@jocksmen As Duncan sang ".. every league every mile to terra nova.." Scott's ship is a nice connection- but in Duncan's lyric I think it was a magical "new land" (terranova means "new land " in Latin of course) that he was journeying towards- mile by mile, league by league- rather than the ship he was sailing in.. Still, the beauty of a good lyric is that we all find our own meaning in it, and many things are simultaneously intended or just evoked in the act of creation. Beautiful lyric anyway.
Thanks Peter I listened to your new band and loved it ! Just like Metro was, it's enlightening and so beautiful ! Ear candies I was looking for and hard to find ! Best wishes for you
ps : Criminal world followed me during a great period of my life, I lost it but would be so happy to hear it again and can't find it (in a good quality sound)...
@MsJiminini So happy you enjoyed Nuevo. :) I'm trying to get Universal to reissue the first the Metro album (which has "Criminal World" on it). Want to get my old fans on Facebook to "persuade" them by numbers, people power :) - so please join me on fb PeterGodwinFans - and bring your friends! As Jiminy sang- "when your heart is in your dream, no request is too extreme".. Thanks! ♥
@petergodwin13 well, I don't have memories of this song quite as good as yours obviously, but I had my first real kiss while this was playing and my first heartbreak ten minutes later when my best mate skated off with her. I made my fingers bleed trying to master it and never did and all to try and impress the girl and win her back. Saw her years later, lucky escape. Still love this song though except for the bubblegum ending, always really hated that bit. Good luck with Nuevo
@tomdoyle1951 I know what you mean about the Most production .. it loses a lot of the beauty of the guitar and voice- drowns it in overproduction at times... But it was because of Micky Most that we got to hear "Journey".. so we have to thank him for that.. Some of the album tracks are less over - worked- "Country Song" is quite a simple production.. That's a personal favourite of mine and connects with some great memories of hanging with Duncan when we first met.. :)

Heard this on the radio on Saturday coming back from the Yorkshire Moors. Not heard for a long time. One of the best pieces of music I have ever heard and also cheered me up after long drive. Going to look up what "encantador" means - hope its good!
I remember listening to this song on my portable radio at Wisemans Bridge beach in 1972. It was a perfect day blue sky, the sound of waves and boats sailing in Saundersfoot Bay. Every time I hear this song I remember that day as if it were yesterday.
this takes me back to my college days when I was an Engenering appo! The acoustic riffs are great a true joy to hear again. Many thanks for the memories.

Pictishbeast is clearly a kiddie fiddler. No one could possibly make so many statements on the subject without having a profound interest in it. I would put him at a Gary Glitter (Paul Gadd) risk level and to make it worse he claims to work with children. Watch his posts. A sick twisted sad old loser. If he was a dog he would have been shot10 years ago.

breadbasher and brunnertube-do you remember the incredible b side 'in a mist'? I can't make up my mind which was my all time favourite track. He was magical. redhairkid-I believe Colin Blunstone and D. Browne knew each other well. How wonderfully 'English'and a shame he isn't better known
I remember with great happiness buying this single - I was 17 and doing a summer season in Blackpool. It was a great year for me and the year I really started to get a record collection. This song stands out amongst some 'greats' of that year. Duncan's memory will live on through his great music for a long time to come.
A really great guitarist; almost as special as Nick Drake. I remember his live performing of this song on Top Of The Pops back in '72. I'd love to see this again. Has anybody got it?...
many many thanks for posting this absoloute classic from 1972 can still see him on top of the pops doing this my all time favourite song and the guitar at the ending just perfection
I was looking for this for 40 years. I eventually got it through quora. Sad to hear that he's passed away. Still a great song.

breadbasher and brunnertube-do you remember the incredible b side 'in a mist'? I can't make up my mind which was my all time favourite track. He was magical. redhairkid-I believe Colin Blunstone and D. Browne knew each other well. How wonderfully 'English'and a shame he isn't better known

Lovely song and very whimsical in a Nick Drake way.
What a melancholy child I was, liking this then and now.

I wasn't a child then but still I love the song and Duncan. I miss him a lot.

Great song. That ethereal voice reminds me a little of Colin Blunstone.
