  • Always been one of my favorite Kirsty songs.

  • .An amazing song. Love Kirsty MacColl, she did not deserve what she got. RIP Kirsty. .x.

  • The song was meant as a reply to "Jolene" by Dolly Parton, giving Jolene's side of the story, geinius! xx

  • Was Kirsty catholic? This song combines lust and guilt in a really catholic way (at least from the perspective of this parochial school survivor and seminary dropout's son).

  • Was Kirsty catholic? This song combines lust and guilt in that kinda way.

  • i have loved this song since my first love ran off with my best friend when i was 15. perfect in every way. i remember standing at a listening post in john menzies, thinking whe has kirsty maccoll written a song about me?

    caroline x

  • i have loved this song since my best friend broke my heart by running off with my first love when i was 15

    caroline (get it!!!)

  • What a shame kirsty is not still about .. she thrilled the world with her voice and sexiness. God rest you Kirsty XXX

  • This song had "major hit single" written all over it, and yet it wasn't. Kirsty was one of the most under appreciated talents of the 80s and 90s.

  • @nycdude999 Kirsty was so crushed by stage fright that touring was never an option. So she had to live and die by the success of her albums and her labels' marketing efforts. From what I understand when she first performed "Fairytale in New York" live, it was the first concert she had been in in several years, and she only was able to do it because the 8 members of the Pogues meant that she didn't feel like she was under the spotlight.

  • ahhh the soundtrack of my childhood

  • thankyou for putting this on ...LOVE IT!

  • It is a beautiful song, from a so much missed beautiful woman and talent.

Tragic loss.....these things should teach us how valuable life really is, of how we waste so much of it, and especially of how it can all be taken away from us in a heartbeat.

    RIP Kirsty

  • I still enjoy listening to Kirsty.. so relaxing but she has this voice that you just have to melt for

    mwwaa Kirsty XXX

  • Kirsty died in 2000.

  • SUCH HARMONIES. WOW

  • for me, the best pop song ever .....

Much missed, from every woman who ever did this sort of thing in London, at the time.

  • fantastic i love this .a sadly missed voice and talent .its always the brightest stars that burnout first ..

  • I saw one song with her 20 minutes ago (Fairytale of New York, together with The Pogues), then i searched her on WikiPedia, i saw she died 2009 and i have readen how.

i don´t know why - there only were 5 minutes, between i first saw something of her and i knew she is dead - but i am near to cry. i really don´t know why. so crazy.

    R.I.P. Kirsty MacColl

  • Well said, spammiuu.

  • when i was very wee this was my favourite song, i loved kirsty maccoll, was dead upset when she died... cant remember how long agot that was but im 16 now so...

  • My favorite Kirsty tune. Thanks so much for posting!

  • "Jolene's reply" as Kirsty called it. Listen again after playing Dolly Parton's Jolene and cry some more!

  • great tune....i listen to this one in my power boat going up the hudson......great stuff.

  • Song for endless repeat....

  • amazing song

  • love her

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • I still don't get how this wasn't a monster hit. Great song, brilliant lyrics (for what it is), steller production values. Thanks for posting this.

  • Real music with real lyrics written by real people.

Instead we now havepink, katy perry and puky gaga.

  • @statjay You're soooo right. I guess the public isn't quick enough to catch all of the verbal innuendo she uses, let alone the incredible production you mentioned. Another factor may have been that she was tradgically killed in a boating accident shortly after this was released.

  • Thank you.

    5*****.

  • Miss you Girl. Thanks TohruKirby

  • One of the best song-writer ever. I miss her.

  • I remember driving and hearing this song for the 1st time...blown away by then lyrics.

    What a poignant story.

  • What a coincidence! I too was driving and heard this song (on WRNR in Annapolis, MD). The lyrics stunned me...I went out immediately and bought the album.

  • Brilliant brilliant song writer. What a talent she was. So few songs these days are as tuneful, memorable, or as well written lyrically as this lady's songs ... may God keep blessing you and your family Kirsty...

  • I really like this. Sad to say I never heard any of Kirsty's songs until a few months ago. I guess she just wasn't that well known in the States. (Although I know I'd heard her name somewhere in the past.) I only trakced her down on Youtube because I wanted to find out what the original version of 'They Don't Know' sounded like. (And it's no longer here. Will someone PLEASE put it back up.) I've slowly been checking out other songs since then. I'm so sorry I missed out for so long.

  • I shall send it to you soon.

    Take care.

  • I already found it, but thank you anyway.

  • You're welcome.

  • Wow. It's kinda like The Cars "My Best Friend's Girl (She Used To Be Mine)", told from the viewpoint of the "best friend". Interesting story, and a very beautiful melody from a very beautiful musician.

  • Oh god,I miss her so much.

  • great tune

  • Have you got 'angel' too cus I cant find that on YouTube anywhere either!

  • We love & miss you K.............

  • Lovely stuff.
