I think this tune was produced by old Beatle roadie Mal Evans, for a movie called Little Malcolm and the Eunachs, and was supposed to be released on Apple, but George signed with A and M and formed Dark Horse, and this was the first band he signed. George plays guitar on this track. Billy Preston's definitly playing organ. I think it may have been recorded in Japanese also.
@lizmacera - Thanks for your input, as it says in the notes, the track was indeed written by Mal Evans. Billy was credited on their first album, but not here. They had 5 albums in total and yes the last 2 specifically for the Japanese market in the late 70's and 80's. Many more tracks uploaded on You Tube.
@lizmacera This was recorded at FPSHOT that is George Harrison's studio at Friar Park. Lovely tune. Bill Elliot, by the way, was in the Elastic Oz Band and recorded a John Lennon tunes Oh God Save Us/Do The Oz for Apple Records.
On Harder To Live, Splinter's second album, George only participated was co-produced by Harrison and Tom Scott, and Harrison played guitar. Little Malcolm And His Struggle Against The Eunuchs, which on "Lonely Man" was Harrison's first foray into film production. "Lonely Man" was indeed a hit in Japan, helped by the fact it was recorded in Japanese! Splinter was the first western artists to sing in Japanese. They remained quite popular in Japan for another decade.
@douglasamarshall (Somehow this posting got abit mangled in the middle. Correction: George only participated on "Lonely Man", and was co-produced by he and Tom Scott, and played guitar. Little Malcolm was Harrison's first foray into film production. ) Seeing as how Tom Scott co-produced, and Billy Preston is also playing, this was likely recorded whilst George was recording 33 and 1/3, which was HIS first Dark Horse LP.
@lizmacera You're thinking of Badinger, with regard to Mal Evans producing. He produced some of their recordings for Apple, at least their first LP, Maybe Tomorrow. But Splinter was brought to George Harrison's attention thru Mal. Badinger's Pete Ham was brought in for Splinter's Apple sessions, but Apple fell apart and George took Splinter to A and M Records, where he was setting up Dark Horse Records with Herb Alpert.
wow cool i never know of them until i heard the cloud nine interview with bob coburn and George Harrison btw I AM A HUGE ELO/JEFF LYNNE FAN NEW JL ALBUM OUT SOMETIME THIS YEAR!!!
@schiehallion27 - Good to hear you still love their music and happy to have rekindled some memories for you. Thanks a lot for posting a comment, makes the upload that much more worthwhile. Appreciated with best wishes, Steve
It beggars belief that this bands great musical legacy is NOT available on cd, the record companies are always griping on about pirated music is killing their bottom line, well if the were to release the good stuff from the seventies they might just start selling cds again.
Thank you steve I loved this album when I was younger my dad had it and it now reminds me of him (Died in 2007) I cant find it anywhere to buy a cd since I dont have a record player anymore and the cassett has long since given up.
So happy to hear this song with Splinter. Lonely Man is very beautiful and I am proud that you have used my photos to illustrate the video. Welldone Steve, you really know how to make good videos! Thank you.
Never more beautiful than with our dear Ami's photos softly, tenderly, soothing the heart and the memories of one that slipped away. Love and Light to you dear Steve, today and every day. XO

Great record, brings back memories of the 70's, when songwriting was still a skill and not a mechanised process.
Very under-rated band, thanks for posting.
