The car Lancia was developing for 1987 was an evolution of the Delta S4 but with a completely new engine. A ingenious twin-turbo row 4 called the "Triflux". It was not sequanlly, but parallel turbocharged. Having two small quickly spooling turbos which could rev far faster than ordinary ones it was rated at 600bhp. Group-B was to be replaced with Group S on 1987 and Group B moved to the track because of crowd control. The Triflux could've easily produced 1200 horses of you wanted to push it.

@thaN0s1993 quattro for 1986 was approx 600 bhp. Take a look at the RS200 that is being aimed at Pikes Peak to see what Group B could have achieved, Audi and Lancia were reputed to be testing cars with 1000 bhp for 1987.

The simple reason for this is, if there's no limit for inlet manifolds and injector sizes, there is no limit to the power. None.

I believe they got about 450 to 500 Bhp. The people saying that works Group B cars produced 600 - 1000 Bhp are just stupid. And even the acceleration is not 2,4 sec, rather 3,0 to 3,5 sec.

@Kastenpickert Avoiding wikipedia, the Guinness Book of Records listed the RS200 Evo (not Group B) as 0-60 in 3.07 sec, maybe another 200bhp for the Group B car? Must be worth 1/2 a second. RS200 wasn't the quickest Group B car.

the most stupid myth is the s4 at estoril being quicker than most of the grid in qualifing.a 1986 f1 was 1300hp in qual trim!!!

shortly after gpb were banned the 300hp gpA cars were posting quicker times

And if it's wet then 1300bhp is irrelevant. There were no fast, open stages for Group A, that was part of the rule changes, therefore no direct comparison for top speed or extended acceleration.

And R. K. is a quite famous photographer, he started the "slowly but sideways"-Events.

@Kastenpickert the truth is that the audi s1 could do 720 or more hp(officially they run it around 530hp , but its the official part...) ------>its engine was in the imsa gto audi 90, the pikes peak s1 could do around 650-660 hp, same engine.... they could increase the turbo pressure this was the key.... the acceleration is right.

Its a 4cyl engine combined supercharging and turbocharging for reducing turbo lag.

Not many cars have had this, I can only think of two in fact. The S4 and the Micra SuperTurbo, yes really. :p
