I'm about to move to Clovis. Just got a job at Cannon AFB. The base seems nice, but man, I cannot believe the town! So, what has the town leadership/committee done lately to make this place attractive? Who would possibly let their town look like this? The video is true and it looks like what I saw when I drove through a few months ago. I'm very scared.

I've been here for over two years now and I can honestly say this is a FAIR representation of this shithole town. Portales isn't much better, either. I was raised and born here and back then it was a nice place, it wasn't over crowded, hardly any traffic, people were nice, everybody knew everybody, and you could walk down the street without worring you were going to get stabbed. I spent 3 years four months at this place courtesy of the USAF. The fourth picture of the Prince Street Lounge was one scary bar. This dude was having his last night out as a single man and we stopped in that place just to grab a beer on the way to somewhere else. We walk in and all of a sudden the music stopped and all eyes were on us. It got so quite you could hear a pin drop and the switch blades opening. No one spoke English in the joint. We got on out of there quick.
Clovis would be better with out the Shifty Fifty, because there would be a Target, Olive Garden, better bars/clubs, Firehouse Subs ETC....... I've been out of Clovis for three years now, which is almost as long as the time I spent there. Thinking about that makes me happy! Not for one second of my life since January 2008 I have I missed that shithole.
Ok Clovis isn't a terrible place to live but does need more things to do, especially for the young ones, but it could be worse, here in Portales we don't even have a movie theater any more! But that being said I would much rather live in Pea-ville than Clovis any day, it's just my opinion.

@Marikaelisa I'm from Minnesota. I went to school for a couple of years in the town of Portales which is close to Clovis. If you want to go out for a meal, you can get pasta with ketchup. Nobody will know what a cannolo is. I suggest that you make your own home and surroundings as nice as possible and try not to focus on what is/isn't in the town or you will become too depressed.

It really is a horrible place to be and military members should get remote credit for being here. I was raised and born here and back then it was a nice place, it wasn't over crowded, hardly any traffic, people were nice, everybody knew everybody, and you could walk down the street without worring you were going to get stabbed. It has change so much, and it is getting old. I moved out of this place seven times and after a year I keep moving back, dont know why. I spent 3 years four months at this place courtesy of the USAF. The fourth picture of the Prince Street Lounge was one scary bar. This dude was having his last night out as a single man and we stopped in that place just to grab a beer on the way to somewhere else. We walk in and all of a sudden the music stopped and all eyes were on us. It got so quite you could hear a pin drop and the switch blades opening. No one spoke English in the joint. We got on out of there quick.

All I have to say after living here just one year, is that I would rather be deployed than continue my time here. Better pay, conditions are at least comparable, if not better, and thats in a third world country. There are some places in Clovis that very closely resemble third world countries. It's a very dirty place. It wouldn't be bad if they just FIXED and CLEANED IT UP. It's also very dirty here. Go to walmart and just look at all the trash that is in the parking lot or in the grass.

@Marikaelisa I'm from Minnesota. I went to school for a couple of years in the town of Portales which is close to Clovis. If you want to go out for a meal, you can get pasta with ketchup. Nobody will know what a cannolo is. I suggest that you make your own home and surroundings as nice as possible and try not to focus on what is/isn't in the town or you will become too depressed.

I would agree that Clovis is not a great place to live, but this video is not fair representation of the city. This video shows mostly south, and southeast Clovis, which is the oldest parts of town. I agree with your opinon, but you have manipuated the facts.

How do military folk have themselves to blame?? We go where Uncle Sam tells us to go. The longer you're in the military, the less say you have about where you go. What kind of life choices would we have made that sent us here? This is a good assignment for my spouses career. It's just not in a garden spot.

I've been in Clovis for 4 months now and this video is a perfect representation of this town. The majority of of things you see here are things that are seen in the main parts of town. It really is a horrible place to be and military members should get remote credit for being here. I understand defending your hometown but how can you defend it if you know anything at all about what exists beyond? Civilization lies 90 miles in most directions. If it's so great, why is there nothing decent here?

I respectfully disagree landpirate. This video is absolutely accurate. It shows the better places such as dollar tree and chilis. This is an accurate and balanced cross section of Clovis NM. I'm sorry but it truly is.
